Just fine and dandy, really. No huge emotional resonance here.

Rated 4/10

Este disco nunca lo he escuchado. Conozco sus dos temas más famosos y ese disco sí que lo tuve grabado en cassette. Entretenido y poco más, destaca "Marlene on the wall".

Rated 4/10

An exceptionally dull album. Some nice instrumentals here and there, but generally this could be made by anyone. 2/5

This is a hard one to rate. I Have a great appreciation for Susan! Vega. She's clearly very talented songwriter. But it's just not a style that I like. I would never choose to put this album on and listen to it. But for people who like the style, it's probably, four or five star quality.

Rated 6/10

She’s got some great lyrics and her voice is easy to listen to. The Queen and the Soldier is the highlight track for me. I’m not a big singer-songwriter fan, but this one was okay.

Rated 8/10

Pretty solid folk. Reminds me a bit of Bob Dylan with the storytelling, especially in "The Queen and the Soldier". The fiddle breakdown in "Some Journey" is fantastic!

Favorite songs: Marlene on the Wall, The Queen and the Soldier, Some Journey, Small Blue Thing

Least favorite songs: Cracking

I can't quite put my finger on it, I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting to.

Suzanne Vega always impresses. It starts a little anemic, but the end is well worth the price of admission alone.

Rated 6/10

Can't be bothered tbh

Rated 4/10

Acoustic guitar based singer-songwriter stuff all glittered up with 80s studio production wizardry: super jangly fingerpicked acoustics that sound like a harp, chorus pedals on crystal clear super compressed electric guitars, lush reverbs, synth textures, electric violins, a bit of rubbery bass - sparse drumming retains the folsky singer-songwriter aesthetic. She has a gentle voice that alternates between breathy singing and chatty urgent talk-singing. Easy listening but kind of boring.

Rated 6/10

First song awful but 3 after that

Rated 4/10

Alright album. Nothing spectacular on here.

I liked this one more than I thought I would. I had heard Tom’s Diner, but nothing else by her. The sing-talking style reminded me of Leonard Cohen quite a bit. Probably won’t go back to this much save for a few songs. Favorites were Marlene On The Wall and Knight Moves.

Rated 10/10

I find a lot of singer-songwriter stuff somewhat self-indulgent and boring but I really enjoyed this. Her voice is gorgeous, and the guitar is so well-produced here. It's crystal clear, and the other instruments stick to the background mostly allowing it to shine. Great album.

Rated 8/10

I thought this was excellent.

Rated 6/10

Not the most exciting female singer songwriter album i heard on here, but still a pretty listen

Rated 8/10

Really enjoyed this, more than I expected! I was confused initially as to why this was picked over her second album, but it makes sense after listening to it through. I only knew Marlene on the Wall before, but there are so many other instant standouts; Small Blue Thing, Straight Lines, Undertow, Knight Moves. I love the cadence of her singing and the near spoken word parts especially. Reminds me of Bob Dylan or Lou Reed, except Suzanne Vega can actually sing too! Guitar sound is really great throughout as well. Only negative I would have is that it has that very "cold" 80s production that I find really dated now.

Rated 4/10

This was playing out loud from PC speakers for a solid 2 minutes before I realized why it sounded so muted on my noise cancelling headphones. At least it's not the cringiest thing one could play out loud in the office.
This is very meh, unclear why it's here, maybe unique for its time. Waiting room music these days. 2*

Rated 4/10

I haven't puked like that since I got food poisoning in '09

Rated 6/10

Good debut, where the biggest power lies in the story -telling and a little less in the music.
