I really liked this album of RnB tracks but wasn’t sure what was so special about it to have an entry in the book. I can see that he pioneered progressive soul, but I cannot really hear it. l. Perhaps I am missing something here.

I only remember hearing Buffalo Stance of course but the rest of the album was a revelation, really catchy innovative songs where the RnB and Hip Hop complemented each other perfectly.

I have songs of his that I heard on film soundtracks but this is the first album I’ve heard. I thought this was a great idea and loved everything about it. The long titles, telling you much about this fair city (though its Sears tower surely), and the interesting instrumentation Despite its running length is took up all my attention and I do wish he had continued with the other 48 states, maybe one day.

What an incredible double album, with not a dud song on it. For me, in this way it is the equivalent of the Beatles’ White Album. Some of my favourite sweetest songs of theirs are on this including Beautiful Child but my personal favourite is Tusk itself with the brass section taking an innovative song to an epic level.

I really loved this, especially the harder guitars amongst all the glam rock. However, I have never felt that I could go further with T-Rex, never wanted to explore all their albums, and this, though well done, didn’t change my mind.

Ok it isn’t metal but I will gladly take some hard rock at this stage. Loved it, it was powerful, but it was also hugely funny and entertaining from the first intro; loved the spoken word bits. Would I elect him? hell no, but he can amuse me with his music evermore.

Interesting in that his work is supposed to be avant garde but I felt this was just your typical, albeit nice, RnB. Perhaps I am missing something here.
I have heard lots’ of 50s albums here with varying degrees of enjoyment but coming across this Big Band opus was like running into an old friend, you’d forgotten how much you missed. Each track was a different mood from jubilant to sultry, almost as if the instruments could speak.

Never wanted to listen to this thinking it was dance based but this is amazing, it seems to take elements I do not like, Bjorkish vocals and trip hop beats but blend them in a way that it undulating and beautiful.

I think that Buddy and the Crickets started off what I like to call “radio friendly music” the production is so pure and that it is just made for travelling around in a chevvy with this blasting out.

I am getting a lot of Hip Hop and Rap lately. I like this but now I cannot remember it, sorry.

So there appears to be a running theme, okay two albums, that I like the albums from members of Wu-Tang Clan but not the album by the band. Not sure what that was about but this album is hugely enjoyable.

I am a fan of 90s alt-rock and once I got past the initial songs I really settled into this melodic grunge opus.

Oh good another one. This is my favourite of theirs. Again it’s got a very British tongue in cheek music hall feel which is tempered by the beauty of There is a Light that Never Goes Out - in my opinion their best song. Wonderful album.

Another one? I did think wouldn’t it be funny if I actually liked this one and I did! Here the songs other than lead singles Watching the Detectives and Alison are jaunty and interesting. What changed? Well one thing is this appears to be his earliest and perhaps most new wave work and secondly no Attractions. Obviously, they were a bad influence. Proven by the fact that I really liked Spike and that didn’t have them. Oh, and I know, if I am hoping for another non-Attractions album I am going to be waiting a while as every stupid album has them.

Hmm this is generally the sort thing I would like but I felt it was too generic. Nothing of real interest to my ears.

Well, I certainly liked this more than Paul’s Boutique. I know its genre is Hip Hop but I heard a lot of post punk and hair metal in it. Fight for your Right to Party is so energetic and Girls is so sad and fun at the same time. Why am I not rating it higher? I think it is the old saying “you had to be there”. While I was physically on this earth at that time I wasn’t around people who liked them, the culture or the hype so I cant emotionally connect with it. That’s my answer anyway.

After a very mixed week on the generator, I thankfully get some comfort music. I have this album and never tire of it. Its beautifully mellow but powerful at the same time.
Doing the generator I have come to appreciate rap more than my starting point which was hating it and I have heard quite a few hip/hop rap albums on here but this really shows rap at its purest form, rhythmic poetry and I am blown away by how much I like it.

The Sex Pistols are fantastic; I know this because I love their only album and I hate punk. But now I am wondering who wrote all that stuff cos I hated this. This absolutely encapsulates what I hate about punk, jarring sounds with words just being shouted on top in a monotone.
