I liked this one a bit more than Astral Weeks. It's not really my style still but the jazzier and more involved production adds some interest for me.

I like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and I've checked out some of the solo stuff from several of them but not much from Stills really. It's in a similar vein to a lot of the group's stuff so it's enjoyable. Doesn't have quite the same wow factor but it's no slouch either.

So many band I love directly owe much of their sound to this band and album. The mix of fuzz and noise with pop sensibilities is such a perfect combination and evokes such a warmth.

It's certainly pleasant enough to listen to but it rarely goes above "inoffensive" for me. The parts that introduce more electronic elements stand out a bit.

Hugely influential as one of the main albums that brought neo-soul into the limelight, and it's just catchy and well-written throughout. I do prefer his newer stuff a bit but this album is amazing too.

Bone MachineTom Waits

Rated 10/10

I'm a casual Tom Waits enjoyer but this one is maybe my favorite. It's consistently weird and cool and embodies his vibe perfectly.

Inarguably essential inclusion here as the essential birth of heavy metal as a genre. Sure, it suffers a little bit from the "Seinfeld is unfunny" effect considering how much it set the tone for metal as a whole, and some of it feels a bit corny considering how much darker and more intense metal has gotten in the intervening half-century, but all of that is simply because it was the FIRST. The songs honestly still rip to this day too.

It took almost 50 years after the release of this album before it was legalized where I live which is absolutely idiotic. I'm not much of an expert on reggae to say how deserved this placement here is, but I certainly enjoy it.

Love the harmonies here, and the unexpectedly dark subject matter is really interesting. The production is really gorgeous as well.

I find him a bit overrated compared to some of his contemporaries who I like more, but this album is solid. I like the interesting and unique chords he uses on many of the songs here.

Been a huge fan of Liars for years now. This isn't my favorite but it definitely laid the groundwork for the rest of their career. The tribal vibes and minimalist, dark beats are so effective at conveying a sinister vibe while still being groovy enough to make you bob your head.

Super weird and fun mix of post-punk and pop. I appreciate how much they committed to just making it as extra as possible. It definitely feels VERY 80s but in a self-aware way.

What an interesting mix of Latin, rock, and rap. Lots of super catchy choruses that had me head bopping. It was cool seeing Chali 2na pop up too. I wasn't sure what to expect here but ended up really enjoying it.

One of the GOATs for sure. One of those albums that is so influential and yet still stands up as simply an incredible record that is inimitable.

YsJoanna Newsom

Rated 10/10

Newsom earned her place as one of the tentpoles of the aughts folky indie movement. This album is everything you'd want out of something like this. It's epic, but also intimate and personal. Emotive, but also intricate and technical.
