The Good: We get to pop some corn!
The Bad: We left it on the stove too long...
The Ugly: Following the smell of burned pop-corn...

What?

Yes!

At times I felt like I was listening to Linkin Park, or some such thing... it wasn't bad, it wasn't great...

I am also tired...

3*

The Good: Nothing
The Bad: Nothing
The Ugly: Everything.

It seems that, if you don't like the album, or more importantly, the message of the album, then you are a snowflake, or racist, or something like that.
Let me premise my viewpoint as one of a person who's lived here and there, had friends of every spectrum, partied with everyone and all, and yet if I don't applaud BLM for their endeavors, then I am filled with hatred.

The lady has a lovely voice, the band is tight. Nothing wrong with that... yet, imagine, if you will, that you are listening to a female singer telling you that light skin is the shits...

People need to get a fucking grip of themselves.

All fucking life matter, and there isn't a sane part of the world where criminals, even though they died due to police abuse, are viewed as martyrs for the cause.

I am missing a message here where we are asked to look at our communities and do what we can to make things better...

The Good: Well well.. Double the fun...
The Bad: Turns out that II stands for i i
The Ugly: We are more about them them...

I don't know... somehow, listening to this album for the second time in 24 hours, there seems to be a little too much of "listen to how great we are", or it could just be 1001 listening fatigue kicking in?

Not that this album is bad... it's just not as easy to listen to as their 4th or 5th album. At least, for me.

Anyway, I think that I had listened to most, if not all of the songs on this album multiple times, as they are a staple for Classic Rock radio stations... at least, while we still listened to them.

Gonna give the lads a 4* and see what tomorrow will bring...

The Good: We won't get lost, as we know where to go...
The Bad: Nothing good ever happens on a corner...
The Ugly: Dick standing there with some flowers in his hand...

This is the kind of album that makes one wonder... wonder why this list is called 1001 albums you MUST hear before you die?
Nothing wrong with the album, really, nothing wrong with it... but is't neither fish nor that other animal.

It's a kind of album that you play in the background while you are doing your taxes... that is what this album is good for.
It's not the kind of album that you are going to play if you wanna get it on... if you know what I mean.

Anyway, Richard tried his best, and though the songs aren't bad at all, it is kind of impossible to differentiate track A from track B from track C...

The Good: We know we can chill our glass with this artist!
The Bad: Wait... we need more than 1 ice-cube to chill this glass...
The Ugly: tepid drinks... really suck...

I have always like Ice Cube, not so much as a rapper, but more as an artist, a person. I think that the first time I really paid attention to him was when I watched Boys In Tha Hood, which was harsh to say the least.

Anyway, I still am not one to appreciate rap...
but... Today Was A Good Day!

3*

The Good: Wine anyone?
The Bad: Seems the water is mixed with blood...
The Ugly: A French version of Rammstein... unless you are into that, of course...

It started off well... intriguing, I would say. Then, well, then it was a little less of intrigu and more of annoy...
And yet, then the intriguing started showing up again...

I am so conflicted on this one...

What can't be denied is that I am no fan of the singers voice...

Shooting this one down the middle... 3*

The Good: We know we will be able to defend ourselves!
The Bad: There's no defense against Elvis...
The Ugly: Realizing there's nothing attractive to be found...

Jangly pop... oh oh oh...

I don't know... Elvis C rubs me the wrong me.
My buddy is a massive fan and I know that I rated his album "this year's model" with a 4*...
Since then, I don't believe I've reached 3*

So, stop threatening with your armed forces...

The Good: Yes...
The Bad: No...
The Ugly: Confusion all around...

Fuck me, I remember when "walk this way" dropped and Run DMC became a global name, while at the same time resuscitating Aerosmith's career...

Also, me in 1984, trying to be a b-boy myself... because that's what we all did back then...

The only track that I kind of liked is "it's like that"...
So, 2*, because "that's the way it is"...

The Good: We are going to smell good!!!
The Bad: This has nothing to do with water...
The Ugly: Sitting in the Cologne concert hall next to smelly Germans....

First time listening to this album, even though Mr Beato hailed this as one of the albums that one needs to listen to in one's lifetime.

Well, I will agree. And, though I hate to admit it, I think that having to have sat through hundreds of albums suggested to me by Mr D, and all the shit that this contained, it has trained my ear to realize when I am listening to something special.

Nothing else to say...

5*

The Good: These melodies should always hit their mark!
The Bad: Even lazer guided melodies go off course...
The Ugly: Not feeling baptized after the experience...

This started off by me attentively paying attention through song 1... still curious during song 2, while wondering if this was going to end soon by song 3 or 4... and I can't recall which song it was because... you guessed it; they all started to sound alike.

I guess that is the wonder about having to listen to songs that only were important in one small area of the globe, whilest us other-wordly people were sitting back hoping for something extra-ordinary.

Also, there was this person, back in 1992, who was breaking all the sales records... he's not included in this list, to my knowledge... where's Garth Brooks?

Anyway, we are here to rate this album...
For me, 1992 had nothing to do with this album... I enjoyed the listen, for a while, but now I am ready to pass page and head into other sonic adventures...

2 1/2 which I will upgrade to 3*

The Good: We won't be getting sick!
The Bad: Turns out that germs aren't the only things that can make us sick...
The Ugly: The end of our youth... without germs...

The good thing about real punk is that the songs tend to be nice and short... so, technically, we can deal with it okay.
However, even a short punk song can just start irritating a little too much.

Not that this was terrible... it just wasn't anything...

So, in the spirit of short punk songs, here ends my short rating.

2*

The Good: We get to frolic with mermaids!
The Bad: That we aren't frolicking in water...
The Ugly: Watching the mermaids gasp for air, and slowly pass out...

What? Why the sad observation above? Does it have anything to do with the way that I was feeling after listening to this album?
Sad, by the by, not because the album generates feelings of sadness... more that I get sad realizing that I am following a list of 1001 albums where the writer of said list seems to be in it to make me want to quit...

I refuse... to quit. I have too many days invested into this here journey... 835 to be exact...

So, a decision has been made that, starting now, any album that I believe was included on this list only because Mr D did so to piss me off, will get an instant 2*...

Did not like this album at all... should ge 1*

Opus DeiLaibach

Rated 6/10

The Good: we are in for a religious experience.
The Bad: we are not religious...
The Ugly: the smirk on the dudes face on the album cover...

Excuse me for the following, however, what the fuck was that?

Do I need to read out loud again the rules which Mr D himself wrote regarding what kind of album is allowed to be on the list, and which kind of albums are not? No greatest hits, no soundtracks...

We've got Life Is Life, and we get Queen... and it's just all weird... and then I read where the band is from, which I would've sworn was Germany, to find out they are Slovakian... and things started to make even less sense...

And then I get to, what I guess would have been side two of the album, and I find myself in Pink Floyd territory.. It's like they tried to emulate all the non-song-like songs from The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon, and give it their own twist... and I was starting to enjoy it too.

So, what kind of score do you give an album that you know you only want to listen to one side of? Can't give it a 4*, but it also deserves more than a 3*...

Shall we flip a coin? Heads and we rank it higher...

The Good: It's always nice to start of with a salute!
The Bad: We don't understand why we are giving salutations to a thief...
The Ugly: Okay, this is too easy... but mr singer man ain't pretty...

Low blow, that last comment. Sorry... but it was too obvious.
As for the album?

I bought this album back in 2003... and I don't really remember why I bought it...
Like many, I was introduced to Radiohead due to Beavis and The Butthead... Fire Fire Fire...
This album does not have a Creep on it...

So, I listened to this album today with "virgin" ears, as I couldn't recall any of the songs, even though I own the damn album... and I kinda liked it, then I kinda wanted it to amaze me, yet it started to bore me.

Which makes it difficult to rate this album.
...

When it doubt, just down the middle, right?

3*

The Good: We know where we need to go!
The Bad: We aren't even close to the state...
The Ugly: Finding out that they moved the house...

Clapton is God.... at least, that is what someone once painted on a wall... and the myth was born.
Mr Slowhands is, undeniably, one of the greats of his time, if not of all time, when it comes to playing the guitar!
It is, therefore, so frustrating to have to listen to his albums which, in my opinion, contain too much shit that acted as filler.

This album is no exception. It has some awesome songs. True Clapton songs... then, then it just kind of makes us want to turn off the sound...

For those who'd like to hear Clapton do the blues with a slight modern sound to it, go check out From the Cradle... some of his best soloing work!

This, this was okay... I guess...
3*

The Good: We are live!
The Bad: Stuck in Harlem...
The Ugly: A square club... needs a square peg...

I am not a fan of live albums, unless they are vastly superior to the studio album. This is not the case...
Also, I prefer to listen to Otis...

What I thought was most interesting about this album was the duration.. did a show last that short back in the day? Is that normal?
Last Friday I went to see the Screaming Cheetah Wheelies perform their 1996 album Magnolia front to back, then they took a 10 minute break, came back and fucking rocked for another 1+ hour... that was a show, which I wish was on this list...

Anyway, poor mr Cooke.

I will slam this record right down the middle... 3*

The Good: Nothing...
The Bad: The Fucking Title...
The Ugly: The fucking voice...

note how I stopped capsing things on top?

What the fuck did I just listen to? And is this really something that needs to be listened to before I die?

The only thing that is positive about this album is that those who hate country can justify their hatred for the genre... but then again, this is not typical for the CW genre, is it?

I can't be bothered to write anything more about this waste of my time...

TidalFiona Apple

Rated 10/10

The Good: Tidal has great lossless music!
The Bad: The catalogue is limited... for now
The Ugly: Realizing we are not comparing streaming services...

Fiona Apple... how can a person song in such a fashion that it sounds off-key while it is perfectly on key? It's a skill few possess!

I've listened to this album probably 4 times in the last week... I don't know what to think about it... yet I find it mesmerizing.
Maybe the period has something to do with it?

I would argue that Sarah McL was the greatest of the mid-90s female artists... though Alanis M took the crown, for obvious reasons... which leaves us with the Fiona A's of the world... and there were several... just don't know who spawned the rest?

Anyway, while digging into the list of albums I've already listened to, it turns out that Fiona had another one, and I kinda liked that one...

This Tidal album... I fear that it is becoming a favorite of mine to play while I am just in need of something lovely...

Really want to give it 5*, but will have to drop it down to 4* for now... as it's not stellar... then again, I did give OrangeJuice a 5*...

The Good: 30 minute album...
The Bad: 28 minutes too long...
The Ugly: That we were warned about it being an understatement...

Someone rated this album with a 3* stating that this was more insulting than a 1* album, as 3* means you really had no emotions while listening to this... I'm inclined to agree...

I listened to this album 2 times, in the course of a week, just to be able to wrap my brain around what I really think about this ouvre... and I think it is 30 minutes lost.
Not that it is bad... it just isn't much more than stuff that has been done before, by other artists, who put in a better effort.

So, avoiding the possibility that this rating takes longer to read/write than the length of this album, let's just give is a 3* rating and go on to the next...

The Good: We're gonna get hot and steamy!
The Bad: Oh wait... more like shivering and cold...
The Ugly: Finding out that triffids has no meaning at all...

When the album started, after about the first song, I was convinced that I was listening to a UK band trying to herald back sounds of yesterday... to find out that this is a Aussie band trying to herald back sounds of yesterday... I wish they had stayed in yesterday land...

Of all the awesome bands which have come out of Australia, this seems to be one that I wouldn't want to have listened to... at all...
Not that it was bad... but it was so annoying after a while that I just wanted to start skipping songs to get to the end... which I am not allowed to do.

I feel that I deserve 4* stars for having sat through this album... while the band itself deserves 5* for actually having humored the singer without killing him in the process... we don't condone violence, by the by...

Still, this album did not stir up "hot" feelings... 2 1/2* which I fear shall be brought to 2*
