Such a time capsule of mid 60s pop-psychedelic rock. For my personal taste it’s three stars, but I’m tempted to give it four just for its purity. From start to finish if somebody asked what that era sounded like this album would be a fine example.

This was Radiohead on the brink of heading into electronica and leaving melody behind.
I have now heard five of their six(!) albums on this list. Sadly I still have a more recent one remaining. This is a band who’s music appeals to me less as they go on.

Elvis Costello has recorded in so many various styles over the years. I like some of his work but wouldn’t call myself a super fan. But this album has some good energy and I like it more than not. 3.75

Consistent top to bottom. I kinda like a twangy country voice, so I don’t mind this. But there’s not much range in either tempo or vocal range. It’s pleasant, but doesn’t rise above three stars for me.

Oooh, good find. I low-key love most of this album. I was only familiar with the first track. The lyrics match the feel of the music. The title track is absolutely beautiful. Nice mix of edgy and sentimental.

This is the kind of 60s music that I strongly dislike.Folky ren faire type stuff. By the middle of the awful second song I was begging for this album to be a short one.

YES! I’ve been waiting for this one!
This is how much joy this album gives me- I recently purchased tickets to fly across the Atlantic Ocean to hear it performed live later this year. All of my children can probably sing it start to finish. Which of course is the only real way this album should ever be approached- in its entirety so you can get the entire saga. Makes me laugh every time, apart from Dry Your Eyes, which makes me cry it’s so beautiful. Truly the most honest breakup song ever written. The story of Mike growing up, God love him…
Can you tell I love this album??

Oh the joy when I discovered the 71 minute version on Spotify was not the original!
Thirty-seven minutes was plenty.

Living for the City is great, Higher Ground is really good. But there are several songs on here that I find incredibly boring and the rest just kind of sounded interchangeable. Overall did not enjoy this much.
2.5 stars

The songs themselves are not all that original musically. But there is something about her performance that elevates them. It’s realistically a 3.5, but I will probably round up.

Electronic music that sounds like it isn’t only played by robots, but was composed for robots. No soul. 1.5 stars.

Any double album is bound to have some filler in there. So it’s not Prince’s tightest album, but it does have some excellent slower soul on it. Slow Love is just gorgeous. The man was a genius.

By this album the boys had put away the silliness of License to Ill. Interesting to hear the different musical genres creeping in. I’m period of them for maturing musically, but I admit that the mix didn’t vibe with me all that well, and i don’t think I’ll be reaching for this album going forward.

This is some very forgettable pop music. It’s perfectly inoffensive, I don’t mind giving it a middle of the road score, but I certainly could have lived without hearing it.

Plenty of falsetto over very pedestrian late 70s style hair metal music. The instrumental side is unoriginal, the lyrics are weak, but it’s the vocals that really drag it down. It ALMOST sounds like a parody band from a movie, like Spinal Tap, but from what I read they were actually serious when they put this out. 1.5 stars

An album I’ve long heard of, but never heard. Breathtakingly original. As a Fiona Apple fan I feel like I just found the origin story.
YES

Unfortunately for this band, I got this album the day after I got the Ella Fitzgerald album. So I am acutely aware that the lead singer here has a very thin and not very pleasant voice. I usually don’t mind this alt-pop style of music, but the vocals on this threw me off. It’s a 2.5 star album for me, but I have a feeling I’ll probably round down.

Part of me thinks “girl don’t give this five stars. This is cheating. You can’t call this an album, it’s basically a box set anthology”. The other part thinks “ this music is gorgeous. Over three hours and you never hated listening to it. In fact most of the time you were tapping your toes or swaying your head. Gorgeous voice, lush arrangements, snappy lyrics. Don’t be a hater. This is top level.”
So, even though I feel a tiny bit manipulated, it’s in the best possible way. Cheers!

I’m not the target audience for this one. I do like some hip hop but usually the more rhythmic stuff. This is tougher. So I don’t really vibe with it, but it didn’t bother me either. I’ll score it down the middle.
