NOW THIS IS SOME GOOD COUNTRY YEEHAW

Rated 10/10

perfect album, and incredulous that I've never heard of her before. incredible songwriting, beautiful voice. immediate classic.

Rated 2/10

Even the prostitute song is boring.

Rated 6/10

White, sweet, yet surprisingly soulful, Nanci Griffith is like the female John Denver: her heart's clearly in the right place, she knows what she's doing, but there's a level of embarrassment that comes w/ listening to her. I think the best country, e'en at its most festive, has a great deal of pain behind it - it's tragedy that funds its humane language & melodies. I don't hear a lot of pain in Griffith's voice, just as I don't hear much in Denver's. That has to be a considerable drawback. & yet, Griffith, like Denver, can surely sing, & she has good songs to her name. Is The Last Of The True Believers an all-out mess of sentimentality & whiteness? I don't think so. Is it ultimately a record that is yet too white & too sentimental? I think it must be. WHITE!

Rated 4/10

there's a gem in here somewhere behind all the fiddle and steel guitar

Rated 6/10

Decently written and recorded country/americana music, but no real hard-hitting tracks.

Rated 6/10

Ок, кантрі\американа альбом. Душевно, добре таке влітку ввечері слухати.

Rated 6/10

Very run-of-the-mill country songs. I thought Fly By Night was alright.

Rated 6/10

I revisited this once I wasn't so tired and was in a better mood. It's pretty much what I thought it would be. It's good and I can hear it pulling from Joni. I would never complain if someone else threw this one but I can't see me ever spinning it myself.

I'm not in a super open minded place today listening to this. I think there's something going on here that's good but my tired ears just can't hear it.

Rated 6/10

Decent country, but nothing I feel compelled to revisit

Rated 4/10

Her voice is very mellowing and there is a great range of instrumentation. The album is a solid old country record, but nothing too extraordinary all the same.

7/10 [KEEP]

Rated 4/10

Not in the mood for storytelling and retro country unfortunately. My ears have gotten used to modern country-rap/rock that older music feels like being in a time I could never comprehend. A time where folk instruments did not have the hard hitting rock elements I prefer.

The harmonies are nice though. Though I guess I was expecting something like Kacey Musgraves (2.5)

Rated 6/10

An album that's here for its songwriting. It's a nice album. Struggle to see this in context of the time since I feel like I've heard this sort of thing a million times by now but this supposedly help paved the way for Americana. Can't confirm. 3/5.

My review for "a rush of blood to the head" by coldplay got lost, so here that goes for posterity: That was a 5/5 for me because I love early coldplay and there are so many iconic songs in this album. I loved how layered their songs get based on simple riffs. A melancholy album. Highlights: clocks, the scientist, in my place, warning sign

The last of the true believers is, however, a country album. I deeply dislike country, and this album is not the exception.

Rated 8/10

Somewhere between early Taylor Swift and Emilliu Harris is Nanci Griffiths . Traditional girl country meets modern girl indie.

Her voice carries the album through some slightly repetitive song structures . It combines so well with a steel guitar I find my self enchanted- sort of the opposite that Donald Fegan keyboard combo from steely Dan that leaves me so cold .

I do find jaunty honky tonk style country to be very novelty song in vibes - the first bars on banks of Pontchartrain for example .

Rated 8/10

Surprised how much I liked this. Overly sweet, but everything works. Short an well executed.

Rated 4/10

No need to go into great depth here. I do not like the warbly voice that every now and again hits the yodel note. The compositions I feel like I have heard a million times already just with better singers and more interesting lyrics.
This isn't terrible by any means, I just don't care for it.
2 stars.

Rated 10/10

People who dislike country music are just plain wrong.

Rated 8/10

Lo amé. Es muy tierno, la voz de Griffith se siente como una caricia. A su vez es tan confesional que logra conquistarte.
Amo a las mujeres del folk.

Rated 2/10

County fair bandstand filler. Awful.
