Not sure any album has turned me around so completely. After the first two songs l thought I would have to stretch to give it a two star rating, knowing I would never give only one star to an album containing Nothing Compares To 2 U.
Then suddenly came a cluster of absolutely gorgeous songs. Suddenly it’s easily a four star album and I go back and revisit the first two tracks with a better understanding of the whole. It’s almost five stars worthy. It might get them. Because it’s an easy 4.5, and the song Three Babies may tilt me towards rounding up.
This album may not be perfect but there are moments that are so sublime they make me want to overlook the flaws.

When I first started this project I probably would have predicted that metal would be my least favorite genre. But it turns out, not always! AlthoughI don’t love the vocal style of metal, apparently I have an affinity for thrash metal. It feels so similar to punk to me.
It’s never going to be my favorite genre, but I like the speed and energy of this.

This is really pretty weak. I’m sorry. Instantly forgettable. Not painful to listen to, but I think I was forgetting I was listening to it while I was listening to it. Both musically and lyrically trite.

Some songs to touch on social matters but shoot off this is just goofiness. Brings me back to the fun early hip-hop days. Run-DMC, the Beasties, this felt so new and fresh. This was really a fun listen.

I have no background or knowledge of this kind of music. I’m very happy it was included on the list, which I hoped would expand my horizons more than it has. It was interesting, but honestly after about 20 minutes I would have stopped if it weren’t for the project. Made it through the whole thing. Glad to know about it but won’t come back to it.

People saying this album is “so 1989” as if that’s a bad thing! 1989 dance culture was popping! Goood times. This album really is of the moment thought, that’s true. Brought me right back. There are a few clunkers in here, but it’s definitely more enjoyable than not.

This one is a bit of a heartbreaker, because it starts out SO promising, and then sort of peters out. The first two tracks are excellent, and then there’s a big lull. I can hear the interesting blend of Indian music and western music, it just looses steam. I do appreciate their ambitions. It just can’t quite get myself to give it four stars, which is a shame because at first I thought I had found a surprise five star album by a band I didn’t know.
It is interesting enough that I am going to listen to as few of their more recent albums to see how they evolved.

The last track of this album is “A Better Place to Live”, and darn if it doesn’t sum up Dolly Parton’s way of being an example to us all. RIP Dolly, you did well here.

I started off thinking the music wasn’t bad I just didn’t like her voice. Then midway through were a couple of tracks where I didn’t like the music or her voice. Then by the second half I was just bored. Was she on downers while making this?

Over an HOUR of beats.
Another reviewer noted that this is less “songs” and more just a collection of beats that a DJ would use to make transitions, and now that’s all I can hear. I was going to give it one star but MAYBE I can justify two stars as it might come in handy for that use my old ass is ever invited to spin some discs.

First time listening to a Britney Spears album- I gotta give some respect to whoever wrote and produced this one. Pure bubble-gum, bop in your seat music start to finish. Nothing deep but some real ear worms. So commercial, it’s no surprise it sold millions. Honestly the singing is pretty average, but with her looks it was a sure bet the videos would push Britney into superstar status. It’s formulaic as hell, but it’s not a bad formula. Unfortunately knowing the toll this took on Britney turns this pop masterclass into a bittersweet listen.

This HAS to win the prize for the strangest background story of any album on the list. That Wikipedia entry is WILD.
The album itself is a bit spacey. Can’t say the lyrics made a ton of sense to me, but I really liked some of the guitar work and the overall psychedelic feel of it. More interesting than many albums on this list that probably sold more copies. I doubt I’ll come back to this one i’m happy to have listened to it.

This album is seriously all over the place! First half has way too much of a prog rock vibe for my taste. Then out of nowhere comes a long-ass R&B medley! Like, say what? Then back to rock. It’s quite a ride. I mean I think most people will like find at least one track they like, I found several, but I doubt I will ever choose to listen to the complete album again.

I feel meaning picking on a non-native English speaker, but her voice just really bugs me. I lump her in with Joni Mitchell: I appreciate that they are creative songwriters, but I really don’t enjoy listening to them.

When this first came out I was annoyed that in the year 1989 he was making the choice to make music that sounded like it was from 15 years earlier. The derivativeness of it annoyed me. I still think it’s not very original stylistically, but will concede that it is well-produced and the guy can certainly play guitar. It’s an easy listen.

Interesting both musically and lyrically. Good find! Follow it up with the instrumental dub version, Garvey’s Ghost, to keep the vibe going.

This is probably a two star album overall, but I’m having trouble giving only two stars to the album that has “Imagine” on it.

Haha I just realized, “How do you sleep” is clearly about Paul. All I can say is Paul’s post-Beatles career should have the last laugh in response to that one.

Between that song and “Jealous Guy” he comes off as a bit of a d-bag on this album.
