Someone looked at the 1001 list and said, you know what this list is lacking? Fucking British shoegaze.....

Admittedly, they coulda took an album of Jesus and Mary Chain or My Bloody Valentine off and added this one because it's much better than any of the shoegaze on the official list, but it's still fucking shoegaze.

Canadian dream pop/indie from Montreal. I'm happy to see all the representation Canadian artists are getting on the recommendation list. Even though this genre isn't really in my wheelhouse, it's nice to see.

An interesting albeit strange offering today. Easily the newest album on the list I'd say. It was only released last month. I remember hearing about J-Pop and BABYMETAL on the documentary Global Metal. I wasn't aware they were still making music.

This genre is apparently called kawaii metal (a blending of J-Pop and metal). It's like that weird Japanese poppy anime music but mixed with dirty loud modern electro-metal. It isn't traditional metal, it's that new age metal that features bass drops, breakdowns, and drum machines. All in all, odd, but not terrible. I just, again, think there should be a 5 yr lock on albums submitted (nothing made in the last 5 yrs) to give it time to age and see it's staying power. That being said, BABYMETAL has been making music since 2010, so I guess they are doing something right.

One song on this album (Song 3) features Slaughter To Prevail (Russian deathcore band). Their lead singer Alex Terrible has some fucking insanely powerful vocals (well I don't know if it can be called vocals or screams, but dude can growl loud enough that a whole stadium can hear him without a mic). I'm not a big fan of their music, but have to give Alex props.

Minimalistic electronic music.... Kinda like the generic music that how-to videos employ. This one was written while Porter was apparently in a dark place battling with mental health. The writing process was used to get him out of that place, and what it created was an album that is really good at instilling hope in the listener. Really good album to listen to if you're down in the dumps.

Pretty solid background music. Nice beats, just suffers as all electronic music does by having way too long of a runtime.

This album doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's the point. The singer is a poet. His words speak for themselves. Absolutely love this!

I am very appreciative of all the Canadian representation so far on the post-1001-list. Canada was largely ignored (except for superstar acts like Neil Young and Rush) in the original list. The only area that got any representation (at least at a national level) was fucking England and Scotland, and most of that was absolute trash. Love discovering new local acts! So far the post-list is 100 times better than the actual list!

Another instance of "this should have been the album featured on the official 1001 albums list". This album outshines "Homework" in every way.
