Fever RayFever Ray

Rated 6/10

The first song on the album (If I Had a Heart) is the theme song from the TV show Vikings. The whole album is like that. Super airy electronic music. Odd, but interesting. I don't hate it. Dude was a member of the Swedish electronic group The Knife before creating this band. I was expecting another garbage electronica album, but this is good. The whole thing has a Norse feel to it too. Which is why it is so fitting as a theme song for a show about vikings I suppose.

Favourite songs: If I Had a Heart, Keep the Streets Empty for Me, When I Grow Up, Triangle Walks

Least favourite songs: Concrete Walls, Coconut

Not a bad album. PJ Harvey collaborated with Thom Yorke on 2 songs on this record, and both of those are absolute garbage, but the rest of the album is fine. Fuck Thom Yorke, and fuck Radiohead man. Everything that moron touches turns to shit. All he does is moan.

Favourite songs: The Whores Hustle and the Hustlers Whore, Good Fortune, Big Exit, A Place Called Home

Least favourite songs: Beautiful Feeling, Horses in My Dreams

Gram Parsons was one of the godfathers of mixing country and rock music. Reminds me a lot of The Eagles. Dude was responsible for changing the trajectory of The Byrds from rock to more country oriented during his time with the band. He was also in The Flying Burrito Brothers (amazing band name), and The International Submarine Band. Emmylou Harris got her start with Gram. She went on to become a star after Gram died of an overdose. This album, to me, is fantastic. Dude had a hell of a career in his short 27 years.

Favourite songs: I Can't Dance, Ooh Las Vegas, Love Hurts, Return of the Grievous Angel, In My Hour of Darkness, Hearts on Fire, Medley Live from Northern Quebec

Least favourite songs: Brass Buttons

Favourite songs: Ice Cream, Incarcerated Scarfaces, Wu-Gambinos, Criminology, Knuckleheadz

Least favourite songs: Striving for Perfection, Shark Niggas (Biters) (fuck skits), Knowledge God (what's with the looped sound of someone snuffing snot into their nose...)

Favourite songs: (You Will) Set the World on Fire, The Stars (Are Out Tonight), Love Is Lost, Dirty Boys, Valentine's Day, How Does the Grass Grow?

Least favourite songs: Where Are We Now?, Heat

An absolute classic! Johnny Cash was a hell of a guy. Blurring lines between country and rock, not taking orders from anyone, and just doing what he was going to do. One of the first Outlaws of country, and a fucking national icon.

Favourite songs: A Boy Named Sue, Wreck of the Old 97, I Walk the Line, (There'll Be) Peace in the Valley, Wanted Man, Darlin' Companion

Least favourite songs: Starkville City Jail

5/5

A glorious representation of glam metal/pop metal complete with cheesy power ballads and rockin tunes. This album has most of Bon Jovi's best songs in one spot! Fantastic record!

Favourite songs: Livin' On a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive, Raise Your Hands, I'd Die For You, Social Disease, Let it Rock, Wild in the Streets, Without Love

Least favourite songs: Never Say Goodbye

Fuckin fantastic prog! The leaders in the genre! My real question though is why are larks licking dudes Aspic? Lol. This is the music that should be celebrated on this list. Not fucking shoegaze or thrash jazz. Any inebriated fourth grader could produce shoegaze, Fuck that.

Favourite songs: Larks' Tongues in Aspic (Part 1& 2), Easy Money

Least favourite songs: The Talking Drum

4/5

60's psychadelic rock similar to The Who or Sgt Pepper era Beatles. Interestingly, after Steve Marriott left Small Faces, the 3 remaining members brought in Ron Wood on guitar, and Rod Stewart on vocals, and became the band Faces.

Favourite songs: Rene, Afterglow (Of Your Love), Lazy Sunday, Happy Days Toy Town, Rollin' Over

Least favourite songs: The Journey

Dude is from Senegal. This shit is fantastic. Really interesting! Guitar work is fantastic, and there are some really cool tribal drum shit going on too.

Favourite songs: Lam Tooro, Djam Leelii, Muudo Hormo, Salminanam, Sehilam

Least favourite songs: Taara

Another of the bottom 10 records on this generator...

One of the reviews states that it "sounds like the drums are beating the shit out of the saxophones" and that may be the most accurate description I've ever heard. This dude created a genre called thrash jazz. It is exactly what it sounds like. Insanely fast drumming and sax parts. Just utter chaos. It's quite hilarious actually. John Zorn is clearly insane. Man, those horns are being abused.

I guarantee that this album was influenced heavily by Miles Davis' album of the same caliber: Bitches Brew.

Favourite songs: Feet Music, Ecars, Good Old Days

Least favourite songs:... Most of the album

Perfection on record!! Queen was way ahead of their time. Everything about this record is perfect!

Favourite songs: Bohemian Rhapsody, Sweet Lady, You're My Best Friend, Love of My Life, I'm In Love With My Car, '39, Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To...), The Prophet's Song, God Save the Queen

Least favourite songs: Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon

5/5

Dude put electronica music overtop of Brazilian pop. It's interesting, but still electronica. So the album suffered (like all in that genre it seems) of being too long, and boring

Favourite songs: Antropofagos, Na Neblina

Least favourite songs: Pecados Da Madrugada

Nick Cave's first band. This sounds like Nick's reimagining of Tom Waits. It's like noise rock meets blues punk or some shit. It's really abrasive, but really interesting. Nick fuckin belts out lyrics and it is full of blood curdling screams. Everyone abuses the living fuck out of their instruments. It's super dark, and super noisy, but super interesting.

If it was anyone else I would probably hate it, but Nick Cave has a way of structuring stuff that is just great. There is structure amid the absolute chaos.

Favourite songs: Hamlet (Pow, Pow, Pow), 6" Gold Blade, The Dim Locator, Release the Bats, Blast Off, Dead Joe, Several Sins

Least favourite songs: She's Hit

Finally, a Scottish band that doesn't blow. All this generator has been full of when it comes to Scottish music is garbage. Franz Ferdinand, on the other hand, displays talent, and have an interesting sound. It's like a modern day Talking Heads. Like art rock mixed with indie. Take Me Out is a classic. This album transported me back to my university days. Solid album all around.

Favourite songs: Take Me Out, Jacqueline, This Fire, Dark of the Matinee, Michael, 40', Cheating on You

Least favourite songs: Tell Her Tonight

Favourite songs: Ladies First, Queen of Royal Badness, Latifah's Law, Evil That Men Do, Wrath of My Madness, Come Into My House, Mama Gave Birth To The Soul Children

Least favourite songs: Inside Out

The other Love album I had on this generator was better (Forever Changes).

Favourite songs: The Castle, ¡Que Vida!

Least favourite songs: Seven and Seven Is

Another of Damon Albarn's (Blur/Gorillaz) experiments. It's fine, I suppose, but nothing to write home about. Easily forgettable. The band does feature Simon Tong from The Verve, and Paul Simonen of The Clash, but that doesn't help much. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't like Damon's experiments, or his music, much. But apparently this book seems to think that every jam session Damon ever had has to be on here. The album mostly consisted of Damon moaning.

Favourite songs: 80s Life, History Song

Least favourite songs: Behind the Sun, The Bunting Song
