Today's album was by an indie rock band with psychadelic influences. They are definitely a jam band as well. Like a modern Grateful Dead. Pretty solid overall.

Least favourite songs: Drug

This The Cure album is better than the first one I reviewed (Seventeen Seconds). It seems more polished or something. I mean it's still goth rock, so it's gloomy as fuck, but this is definately better. My only complaint about this album is the God damn songs are too long. They average like 7 minutes in length. There is like a 2 minute intro, a 2 minute outro, and like 3 minutes of actual substance.... They could have easily shaved like 15-20 minutes off of the album runtime if they had just got on with it.

Favourite songs: Lovesong, Pictures of You, Prayers for Rain

Least favourite songs: Last Dance

This was a weird one. Kinda like psychadelic dream pop with a backing orchestra. The orchestra gave the whole record a super ethereal quality to it. By times this sounded like Sgt Pepper era Beatles, by other times Pet Sounds era Beach Boys. It was ok, but isn't something I'd actively seek out. This is my second XTC album (The first being Skylarking). Similar to their first record I reviewed, this one fell flat about halfway through.

Favourite songs: Greenman, Your Dictionary, River of Orchids

Least favourite songs: Fruit Nut, I Can't Own Her, Harvest Festival, The Last Balloon

There is a lot of garbage on this record. In my opinion, the Beatles are overrated.

This album feels incomplete. Like each song is an idea that they just regurgitated in like 5 minutes and called it good enough. There's no cohesiveness to any of it. Like, why is there a whole song about Pigs? And another about a racoon?... Drugs.... Good drugs. It's crazy too that this album came right after Sgt Pepper. This pales in comparison.

Apparently everyone was mad at Lennon because he kept bringing Yoko to the recording studio... The producer fucked off in the middle of recording the album... The sound engineer quit.... Ringo quit for a few weeks during recording... Then the band took a hiatus after the album was done.... So all that shit I think is part of the reason why this album blows. That and the fact that it's the Beatles.

Favourite songs: Blackbird, Why Don't We Do It In The Road?, Yer Blues, Birthday, "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", Don't Pass Me By, Rocky Raccoon, Revolution 1

Least favourite songs: Wild Honey Pie, Dear Prudence, Revolution 9, Good Night

Overall, a pretty solid album. Short, tight songs, super funky bass grooves, left wing lyrics (on the cover of the album is a picture of a native shaking hands with a cowboy with the words: "The Indian smiles, he thinks that the cowboy is his friend. The cowboy smiles, he is glad the Indian is fooled. Now he can exploit him.")....all very punk rock, just a lot more polished than a punk record. Much less thrashy, with a better flow and more direction. The first half of this record was a lot better than the second half. It kind of fell flat after Glass.

Favourite songs: Damaged Goods, Natural's Not In It, Not Great Men, Ether, I Found That Essence Rare, Glass

Least favourite songs: Guns Before Butter, Contract, Love Like Anthrax, He'd Send in the Army, It's Her Factory

This was a hard record for me to focus on long enough to get through. I am really not a fan of bossa nova music, as I feel that it all sounds like elevator music or call centre hold music. That's not to say that the music is bad, it's just horribly bland to me. There is also the language barrier, where I can't even be enticed to listen by the lyrics.

Overall, super bland. Not my kind of music at all.

This is the debut album by Welsh rock band Super Furry Animals. It consists of overdriven guitars, and fuzzy lyrics. There is so much going on that the lyrics end up getting buried under layers of distortion. Lyrics aside, the musical accompaniment is fine I guess. Nothing spectacular. It's of the same genre as the Boo Radleys or Ash. I feel like this was only added to be inclusive to the Welsh. I don't see this as being very influential.

Favourite songs: God! Show Me Magic, Bad Behaviour, Mario Man, Frisbee, If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You

Least favourite songs: Gathering Moss, Long Gone

This is kind of a mix of indie rock and electronica, sung mostly in French. As background music it is fine, but this isn't something I would be in a rush to listen to again. It all just kind of ran together. No real stand out track to speak of. Not sure what this influenced or why this is on this list.

Favourite songs: Metronomic Underground

Least favourite songs: Percolator, Slow Fast Hazel

This album would be an excellent candidate for torturing prisoners with. Physically painful to listen to. Most songs just feature Jeff moaning with backing music. I thought his dad, Tim Buckley sucked. Man, Tim is fantastic compared to this douche.

Favourite songs: Hallelujah, Eternal Life, "Lover, You Should've Come Over"

Least favourite songs: Mojo Pin, Grace, Corpus Christi Carol, Dream Brother

What an album!! Devendra's guitar playing is phenomenal. His quick picking technique is awesome. This was an absolutely phenomenal album by an artist I'd never heard of before! Absolutely beautiful. Something like Hozier but Unplugged.

I like the record hiss that you can hear through most of the album. I also like how he left all of the imperfections on the record. It gives it an almost intimate feeling to the album. Almost like Devendra is just sitting around a campfire, dabbling on the guitar for a small audience.

Favourite songs: Fall, Insect Eyes, A Sight to Behold, This is the Way, Will Is My Friend, Dogs They Make Up The Dark, There Was The Sun, Todo Los Dolores, Rejoicing in the Hands, When the Sun Shone on Vetiver, Tit Smoking in the Temple of Artesan Mimicry

After Run Run Run, the album went downhill. It seems like they were just making noise for the sake of making noise. The Black Angel's Death Song features screeching violins and air compressor noises for some reason.

Favourite songs: Run Run Run, I'm Waiting For The Man, Venus in Furs, There She Goes Again, Sunday Morning, Femme Fatale

Least favourite songs: The Black Angel's Death Song, European Son, All Tomorrow's Parties

This music is made up of simplistic guitar playing, and a lot of yelling. The vocals kind of get annoying after a while. By times the vocalist does this kind of warble thing that is rather unpleasant to listen to. These gals are kinda similar to The Slits, or X-Ray Spex (punk/indie rock). It reminds me of an unpolished female led high school punk band. By times I found myself tapping my foot along to the beat, but the constant barrage of shouted lyrics takes it down a few notches.

Favourite songs: Dig Me Out

Least favourite songs: Words and Guitar, Buy Her Candy
