This is buttery smooth and honey vocal textures. These guys had an unmistakable tone that I think colors the listening of other groups to western ears. This tone is iconic.

This guy tried to kill his band mates with a fire axe and then made this? The mix is really rough and the vocal treatment is almost incomprehensible. There is no sense of any polish on this, which could appeal to someone, I suppose. This is a really dull folk blues combo with Leonard Cohen esque singing. Grey/Afro is a slog. Boy, this album really knows how to wear out a welcome.

I'm back in my uncle's garage. God this is so 80s. A hyper masculine rock musical in which all the characters have the depth of a sheet of paper. though the orchestration has this "everything and the kitchen sink" sort of quality which is charming.

ok that Werewolves of London riff on One Of Those Things is BLATANT. I can see why this was both a commercial and critical flop at release. Wtf why is this spoken word interlude taking 6 minutes? I am not a huge fan but I am glad this album exists, as its a great swan song for the fans.

The Nurse is so weird but I love it. A very cool blend in and departure from the usual White Stripes sound. The Denial Twist and I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet) are both good times.

Time Will Break The World is more spoken word than music, which is always a pet peeve. Death of an Heir of Sorrows is a really poignant song. This is probably worth a second effort.

oh man when the band starts off the album singing about Rock as a concept you know its going to be a long listening session. Photograph is a slick radio single. I enjoyed the solo on Stagefright a little too much. Too Late For Love is again another slick radio hit.

Green River is an immediate groove. Southern Blues Rock at its most basic. Outside the singles, I don't know that I love this album, but the title track and Bad Moon Rising are both definitively hits.

This has a super weird tonal diversity to it. some of it is rootsy Jamaican, some is straight ahead alt brit rock, some electronica/jungle style textures. The transition between Your Love Gets Sweeter to Supreme I Preme is very illustrative of this.

God the plot of this is so fucking French. Since its a spoken word piece more than an album, its hard to rate. I personally enjoy French language but the story being about some asshole hitting a 14 year old with his car, taking her to bed, and her dying in a plane accident is just.......weird and gross. its one saving grace is that it's fiction?

It's Tricky!!!!!! Walk This Way. Holy shit this album rules. Somehow they manage to make the worst sounding drum samples stay fresh and exciting, while the raps and flow manage to maintain their edge and freshness. Dumb Girl is kind of a shit song. Proud To Be Black is an uplifting, if somewhat on the nose song but its earnestness is what makes it great.

I would agree with wikipedia in that this is a lot more digestible than some of their earlier stuff that I have heard. Still very much in the experimental/noise sphere though. Or maybe they just use those sounds and textures as window dressing on this one. What the fuck ever, man.

This is cool with a capital C. Strong 1-2 with Its Him! into Burnished. Street Joy is a laid back groove. Nice jazzy, jam rock stylings on River To Consider. absolutely smashing!

Very old school style. Eye Know is a solid song. bringing Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest is a pro move, pairing that with the Jungle Brothers is another level. Me, Myself, and I is a great single.

wow leading off with Tiny Dancer. Razor Face? the title track is good. They are all these really grand dramatic songs, which, idk sort of loses me because they all get to the same sorts of places.

Secret Nick Cave album. Nick what am i supposed to do with your magical lyricism if you hid it behind all this sonic insanity? What is Release The Bats?!
