Desert Blues has been hands down my favorite genre discovery on this list! More Ali Farka Touré is extremely welcome!

essa capa eh mto foda.
blues africano daquele naipe. o bicho sabia tocar um instrumento de corda, né. bem suave e dá um climinha de fim tarde, sei lá.
enfim, uma bela despedida do mano. que deus o tenha.

Nice intro to African music

While I definitely prefer this outing to Talking Timbuktu I continue to feel uncultured listening to Ali Farka Touré, its fine as background music but pretty dry for my tastes if I lean in. I don't really enjoy blues in the first place, so putting a localised "king of the desert" spin on it doesn't do an awful lot for me.

podosta različitih utjecaja, na trenutke baš vajb, sve u svemu sasvim neloše. al vjerojatno neću nikad više slušat. jako čil omot

Don't really got a ton to say. Traditional African music mixed with blues. Its solid enough.

The Good: We get some blues!
The Bad: Rather be listening to BB...
The Ugly: Feeling bad about not liking this...

I don't know the stats, yet, out of the 1001 albums on the list, how many are not anglo saxon based?
Finally get something different, start listening to it, realize that is just like listening to Muddy Waters, except in a different language... makes me wonder why this is something I have to listen to before I die?

I am getting 1001 Album's I need to hear before I die fatigue... and I still have roughly 200 to go... S.O.S.

I'm pretty burnt out on blues music in general, but this is so much more interesting than just blues music. I absolutely loved this! The use of African rhythms and instruments paired with such a unique approach to blues guitar brings this album to life. This is up near the top of my favourite discoveries from the list and is going straight into my regular listening rotation. I'm going to have to do a deep dive into Ali Farka Touré's music.

Rated 8/10

Really enjoyable album. I'm not normally that into blues, but this has enough originality to keep me hooked. Really enjoyed the unusual (to my ears anyway) guitar style and vocals. Especially enjoyed the title track, Soya, and the closing one.

Rated 2/10

Just intensely boring blues-adjacent music. Starting to get a sense of another genre I despise...

Rated 6/10

Godfather of pretty much all African music that got popular in the West. That said, I'm never quite as big of a fan of his work as a lot of other contemporaries of his. The lack of percussion or anything else besides Ali Farka Touré and his guitar makes it a bit of a long sit through. It gets a bit monotonous and I miss my bass and percussion here. Still, he's a master at his instrument and the way he plays guitar is unlike anyone else.

Ali Farka Touré's Savane was a fascinating listen. While the opening tracks didn't immediately draw me in, the album gradually revealed its strengths as it unfolded. The slow, hypnotic rhythms and understated guitar work created an atmosphere that became more immersive with each song, rewarding patience rather than demanding instant attention.
What stood out most was how unique the music felt. I'd never heard anything quite like it—the blend of traditional Malian music with blues influences creates a sound that feels both deeply rooted and surprisingly familiar. Touré's guitar playing is subtle yet expressive, and the album has a timeless, unhurried quality that encourages careful listening instead of chasing catchy hooks.

Savane isn't an album that aims for immediate impact. Instead, its beauty lies in its gradual development, drawing the listener into its rich textures and understated melodies. Although it didn't make a strong first impression, by the end I found myself appreciating its authenticity, emotional depth, and distinctive sound. It's an album that expands your musical horizons and one that I could see becoming even more rewarding with repeated listens.

There is a lot I like in here and some great guitar work, augmented by the local sounds and instruments. I felt it got redundant at times, they would lay down a great grove and it would run the whole song. Overall enjoyed.

Love the finger picking on this one. There’s some stuff that feels familiar like American blues but then most of it is distinctly African. Towards the end it seemed a bit repetitive but that probably comes from me not understanding the lyrics. The instrumentation is the high point though.
3.5 stars, not sure which way I’ll round. Deserves several listens.

Didnt blow me away, but a vibey time

Got a great rhythm that I enjoyed more than I was expecting. That being said, I didn't understand a word, which detracted immensely.
