how does he always sound like the band woke him up by sticking a mic in his face and told him the label needs the album in an hour or hes in breach of contract and owes them 1.2 billion dollars, but also that his neighbors have his dog and will kill it if they hear a single note through the razor thin walls of his apartment and the whole time hes singing hes wondering how the band keeps getting in and how he doesnt even have a dog

i never understood the beach boys hype. its well crafted and has great harmonies but i don't think the majority of the songs really have anything that makes them interesting. ill give it an extra point because its so well done but this is more of a 3 for me

way different from the other goldfrapp album on the list. i did like the last few songs a little more but it wasn't a high bar for improvement.

im gonna keep it 300 (like the romans). theres a lot to be said about kanye and how some of these lyrics seem like a precursor to what came later but im not a mental health professional so ill leave that alone. what i will say is this album was great. the production was not only well done but managed to stay interesting despite being very minimalistic. the lyrics alternate between fantastic socially conscious commentary and complete nonsense.

surprisingly good considering it was released like 50 years after the last one anyone cared about. minus one star for robert dimery taking up one of 12 additions to the the latest volume of the book with an ok album from a band that already has too many albums on the list

i tried the 1001 album project once before. i never made it a daily habit but managed to stay somewhat consistent rating 13 of my first 24 albums. my 24th album was tago mago which is not a great way to hook someone who isnt fully committed. after this album my consistency dropped and i only rated 2 of the next 20 and then coming back for album 140 before finally giving up.

a few years later i started over and now, 874 albums in, im much more receptive to this. it actually has a lot of groove and while peking o is still annoying, its not even close to the weirdest thing ive listened to this year.

ive heard this before. i didnt like it then and i dont like it now, though i will admit i liked it more than i remembered. maybe after 3 or 4 more listens ill find it tolerable. as it stands its like dylan was a better guitarist and somehow an even worse singer.

first off, this is entirely too long. second, fighter and dirrty are stone cold classics. those things said this album is incredibly disjointed and i dont think the track order was given much thought. there is a good bit of variety in the songs but that also detracts from the cohesiveness of the album. the production, while dated now, was great at the time, shoutout scott storch and linda perry.

this was an album for sure. kinda sounds like meat loaf if the bombastic theatrical rock had a folk influence instead. im not sure who its for but im sure its for someone
