this was certainly an album. at first i was incredibly bored and thought this would be an easy 1. then the songs became much more interesting and the lyrics became a bit more sarcastic and witty. they were still overly dramatic but at least they were entertaining, a bit like jonathan coulton doing a knockoff bowie impression. honestly a few of them were good enough to bump this to a 3 before he dropped a bunch of slurs. i understand the ironic messaging hes going for, but unlike randy newman, who pulled that off in the 70s, this came out in 2010. at that point he shouldve known better and for that it gets dropped one star.

interesting mix of genres, certainly not what i expected when i saw pharrell. if all of his music was like this id probably like it more. some of the ideas feel a little half baked but overall pretty enjoyable

excellent composition, frustrating vocal delivery. she has a beautiful voice but on this album she sounds strained in a way that doesn’t serve the music. the album is also quite long, and it’s incredibly slow pacing only serves to make it feel even longer. there were also a few production choices that puzzled me. in particular the crackling effect on one of the songs made me think my headphones were going out. if you gave me 30 minutes of this it’s an easy 5, even with my complaints. by the time an hour rolls around the wonderful compositions start to blur together and listening has become quite arduous. im looking forward to her other albums and hoping i enjoy them more

very different from the first album we had from them. some very cool ideas on this album. it was a strange mix of groove and gloom. enjoyed this one a lot

great beats, great rapping, great lyrics. relatively short compared to other albums from this time period. 5 if only for ny state of mind

the reviews on this album would make you think that captain beefheart killed their dog and ran off with their wife. this album is not nearly as bad as everyone is making it out to be. dont get me wrong, it is not one of my favorite albums on the list but it certainly is one of the most interesting.

overall its kinda of like being trapped in a basement with a bunch of drunk jazz majors trying to tune their instruments over each other, which to my understanding is pretty close to how the album was recorded. its disjointed and borderline incoherent at times, but there are some great moments that remind me of the captains first album "safe as milk".

theres also a lot of humor on this album. both lyrically and through the vocal stylings. if it werent for the fact that its 78 minutes long, it couldve gotten four stars

somehow this album manages to be worse that achtung baby. at least that one had some interesting musical ideas even if they didnt really develop. they played this incredibly safe and the album suffers for it.

pretty standard 90s alternative album. enjoyable but not great. would probably get a four if it were 10-15 minutes shorter

this is a band i've heard a few songs from before and was interested by but never dug any deeper. they have an interesting sound, like an emo prog band. which makes sense after learning the singer was also the singer for at the drive-in. i was also surprised to learn that flea recorded bass for most of the tracks. absolutely wild instruments with unrelenting intensity. fun album

wow i enjoyed this significantly more than the last album we had from her. after hearing this one i can understand the hype.

this isnt what i was expecting after reading bjork was the vocalist. enjoyed the vocals from her but the dudes vocals threw me off a bit. the songs were interesting and didnt drag on like a lot of post punk tends to do

long album of decent background music. some odd skits on here that break up the momentum and make the album feel longer than it needs to be. there are a few cool grooves on here, especially toward the end

this is like a worse version of the bealtes white album. this is probably some of the pumpkins best work thrown together some some decent filler to make for an incredibly bloated album. i actually really enjoyed the majority of this and i think if it was two separate albums they would both 5 stars even with corgan singing. that said listening to him for two hours is just too much.

i had heard of the artist before but never heard anything by them. as far as artists ive never heard before, this is one of my favorite albums on the list so far

this is exactly the type of thing that i dont mind for a bit but starts to wear on my nerves after a bit. the good news is that the songs are short enough to stay interesting most of the way through.
