Fuck me. I was not expecting the guys who did The Sopranos to have created whatever the fuck this is. It's all over the place, like Primal Scream on crack, and the Sopranos theme song is constantly bubbling under, like a violent threat. It doesn't always work, but when it does it just goes so fucking hard that it's impossible to ignore.

This is Goldfrapp for the 2020s, with touches of Nick Cave's hymnality and Radiohead's electronica flourishes.

Listening to the new additions to the list has made me realise just how amazing the 1,001 Albums author (Martin?) is at curating albums. The user additions are about 25% good; I'm guilty of picking an album that I liked in a particular time and place, and that objectively might not be that good. I'm not sure if I'll continue the project after this.

I think this is the first albums here that genuinely sounds new and different. The first track is immense. Not entirely sure about the vocals/lyrics though.

I found this slight, but I've come to realise that there's not actually all that much to The Chemical Brothers: they lack the aggression and backbone of contemporaries like Underworld, Leftfield and The Prodigy, and they're not as dynamic and clean as Daft Punk. There are moments here, but it doesn't add up to anything that special.

Really, really liked this. Not sure of their gender (and it doesn't matter), but it reminded me of Anthony and the Johnsons, but it feels celebratory and positive where Anthony was downcast and an outsider. It's tender and light and effortlessly beautiful.

I do like metal when it stops being metal for a bit and this is metal that stops being metal for a little bit and therefore I do like it.

I think this is the first of the new batch of albums. Liked it, but I still find it weird that awkward and geeky shoegaze has been resurrected as very extrovert pop.

Actually really liked this. Reminded me of the lighter end of 80s indie, sort of Prefab Sprout or The Police, but because it's in a foreign tongue I couldn't get annoyed by the lyrics.
