Musically it was pretty good, Past Gone Mad was especially fun. It’s a shame that the vocals really ruin it for me, just cannot see myself willingly listening to this guy sing.

Rated 4/10

This album (or the big singles at least) were inescapable when it came out 12 years ago. While I’m definitely far outside the target demographic, I can appreciate this album for what it is. Out of the Woods and Bad Blood were easily the most grating, didn’t care for them. Style is catchy as hell, unironically something I’ve found myself listening to a time or two over the years. Production is cool, watered down synth pop engineered to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Not groundbreaking, but I don’t think it really needs to be tbh.

Taylor Swift’s songwriting is very hit or miss for me. There are some songs with catchy hooks or interesting verses, but all too often you get absolute roses are red, violets are blue shlock that just kills any chance of me ever revisiting this album in full.

Elvis Costello just isn’t for me, but of all his albums from 1001, this is probably the one I’d pick as the one I disliked the least. Doesn’t overstay its welcome, enjoyed the music itself, just don’t care for Costello’s voice
