Definitely an album of teo halves, as per the original vinyl release, (which gets lost in our current age of streaming). Side one, the bookends concept; side two, the crowd pleasers. I enjoyed this a lot.

The soundtrack to the movie you want to see before you die, but it only exists inside your head.

I always thought Hot Chip were a comedy band, no idea where I got that from.
This album feels like it was made for gyms and exercise classes.
"Let's sweat, let's sweat... come on ladies, keep moving, it's only your fat crying!"

Whoah, Nina is on top of her game here!
Four Women is outstanding, gave me the chills! Bravo! 😚👌

Ticks all the 80s New Wave/Post Punk boxes. I did like the basslines, albeit basic but effective.
Rated 8/10
One of the hidden gems of this project.
It does feel a bit obscure to be listed in the 1001, but I don't care, call it my Scouse bias.

Skylarking is an okay album, though I have a soft spot for Dear God.
But recently found out that it wasn't included in the original release, so now I'm overthinking "which version of the album is worthy?", yup, who cares?!
Dear God is still a great closer.

Hold on. The Darkness were a real band?! 🤪
Of course it's daft, cliché and silly, but you can tell they had good fun with it! 2.5

First time listening to this album. Enjoyed much more than I'd expected to.
Just another ex-1001 album!™

Funny reading all the other reviews that are trying to define what genre it belongs to... apocalyptic folk is my favourite.

Do you know where I wanna be? ...that's right, back at the Chicken Shack!

Hit after goddamn hit, eeee-heee!

I prefer Pretty Hate Machine as my go-to NIN, but there are so many gems on Downward Spiral; Closer and Hurt are epic!
Rated 10/10
Man, this album is a like a rollercoaster that keeps going up and up and up! I didn't want it to end.
Rated 8/10
Another great discovery on the 1001 list for me.
Although most of the lyrics are laughable, I really enjoyed the bluesy swamp rock and punky riffs.
Rated 6/10
Probably the Blur album that I'm least familiar with. It's fine, but nothing really piqued my interest.

All bound for Mu Mu Land!
Rated 8/10
I know this is a good album, great production, tunes and harmonies. But the times I've listened, I always think "okay I've had enough now". 3.5

I'd never heard of Soft Machine, so started reading up about them and noticed Robert Wyatt's involvement, suddenly it makes sense, except it doesn't - this is a soundscape for an (experi)mental asylum!
