Fucking great. Excellent. I have heard the artist's name, but never a single song. I was completely blown away. The maximalist production, great samples, great USE of the samples, excellent beats, conscious and witty rap, great flow... Man, this totally took me by surprise.

I listened to the entire album eyes closed and completely cleared my mind. A+ experience.

It wasn't until I was reading the listener reviews here that I was made aware the album on Tidal is not the album on the list; it is a "director's cut," which is substantially different from the original. I had to acquire the album by other means, which means I wasted probably 30 minutes listening to something I thought was pretty mediocre only to start listening to a different mediocre version. So, I guess that's an hour wasted.

I really don't miss the rapping of the early 90s. Ugh.

I'm not seeing the appeal. Probably 2.49 rounded down to 2.

This is kind of a charcuterie board of popular music styles of its time: pop, blues, blues-rock, psychedelic, and annoying forgettable trash. Most of it is in the first several categories, and they're passably good. I find myself enjoying the blues-oriented stuff more than anything else. I have to admit, I got more into the wobbly sheet metal thing on Hot House than I would have thought possible

This is exactly what I was in the mood for this morning. I'm a sucker for music in the "Americana" genre, which is what we used to call country before country became...rap? I don't know.

Anyway, AMAZING voice, banjo accompaniment, and actual country flavor.

Whether or not it belongs on the list isn't for me to say, but I thought this was great, and I'll be adding this to my personal collection

It's unfortunate my two favorite songs on this albums aren't from the original release, but from the bonus material. Kentucky Rain and Suspicious Minds are my two favorites.

There doesn't feel to me like there's anything groundbreaking here, but it's all good music. Very enjoyable.

I feel like the list has given me this album like 6 times. Or is it that there are 5 other nearly identical albums on this list? The best I can say is this is like an adequate local band covering songs discarded Smiths songs.

Not objectionable, necessarily, but certainly not anything I'll be coming back to.

What IS objectionable to me is that I can't decide between 2 and 3 stars. I'm actually going with 2 because there's really no reason for me to finish this album, having looked back at my history and knowing I have listened to the following album already. It ain't getting any better as time goes on. Stopping at track 6

I have previously heard much about Frank Ocean, and for whatever reason, just never made it to his music. Thus, I was quite looking forward to this album today. Immediate disappointment. I don't like autotuned mumble rapping, and certainly not in an A/A/A rhyme scheme.

Fortunately, that didn't last too long. Though somewhere about track 3, I began to wonder what I was missing based on the hype surrounding the artist and this album. Disjointed samples that didn't fit with the song, weird soundscapes, and pretty middling music/lyrics left me sort angry about what I was listening to.

By the middle-ish of the album I was ready to rate this 2 stars, skip through the tracks to confirm, and move on with my day. Starting with Pyramids, I think, the music began to coalesce and seemed to be much easier to listen to. Had the whole album been like the back half, it would have been a 3, but not for its excellence, necessarily. More because I just would have felt bad giving it less

I hate to add more weight to the appearance of "Randy Newman" in the word cloud, but...yeah...

This was sort of incoherent, but enjoyable. I prefer Gabriel's later work, and can see here he was developing something he'd really hit his stride in later. Solsbury Hill has always been a favorite (and speaker/headphone test track) of mine.

This is such a weird mashup of non-sequitur noise that I don't know what to do with it. Some of it is listenable, but cool in the pool makes me want to drown

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. And honestly I'm sort of ashamed to say that

Well, I guess you COULD start an album with 11+ minutes of anxiety, but it sure doesn't make folks want to finish the rest of it.

Didn't get much better. As soon as there was something interesting, they Andy Kaufmanned me

First off, this is an excellent recording. Rich, full, and very satisfying. The production sounds very modern, and very much ahead of its time.

I haven't ever heard of this band before, but English folk sounded interesting. I was immediately in love with the music, and that didn't change throughout the album. This was so good and I'm so surprised about how much I liked it that I can't even think of anything to say. Absolutely blindsided me.

Reading the Wikipedia article and the reviews, I'm coming across a lot of terminology that ALWAYS equates to "I won't like this music." Art pop, avant garde, post punk, comparisons to Nico... Somehow though, none of those characteristics I normally find disagreeable make this album at all unpalatable to me.

I'm really appreciating the rhythm section. Great, funky, powerful bass, fantastic and simple drumming. I keep catching myself tapping my foot unconsciously. Over the last six months or so, I have had a few surprising albums in the way of reggae that I have had on repeat, and I very much enjoy the reggae influence here too

You just absolutely cannot capture the mid 90s cultural feel without the intrigue and outrage over this band and album, especially being from South Florida like I am. Marilyn Manson was something EVERYONE was talking about, whether it was going to a show, that he was the literal actual devil, or that he had undergone a dubious medical procedure in order to achieve autofellatio. Huge cultural impact. Cannot be overstated.

I never was super into the band, other than a few of their BANGER singles that got MTV/radio play; I was more of a grunge guy at the time. Honestly, I feel like I have missed out on this album. It's a lot better than I thought it would be.

I'm astonished at the rating I'm giving this, based on my preconceptions.
