This wasn't objectionable, but I fail to understand the importance or significance of this album. This was all just basic 80s style New Wave/Pop without anything new or special to me. I'm definitely not listening to both volumes either. The first was kind of a waste of my time. Again, not objectionable or bad, but definitely not significant

Can't rate this 3 stars. It's just not...I dunno...important feeling

SMiLEBrian Wilson

Rated 10/10

Some of this is excellent, and some of this is maybe the most beautiful music I have ever heard, stopping me in my tracks and bringing me to the verge of tears.

I have been superficially aware of Smile and Brian Wilson's struggles with the album from the 1960s (shamefully, I was only made aware by one of my favorite movies; Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), but I didn't know it was actually completed in 2004.

This has been the best "never heard it before" album from this list for me. I'm definitely adding this to my personal collection and will be listening again. Probably today, actually...

This wasn't at all difficult to listen to; pleasant, actually. However, this really isn't for me, and I seriously doubt I will listen to this on purpose. That said, if it came on, I wouldn't change it

The last two tracks could be completely omitted: one is a medley of the several of previous songs, then the last is a repeat of the first with non-meaningful differences

OrbitalOrbital

Rated 6/10

Time becomes: This was annoying at first, but once I realized what was happening, it was super cool, then ultra satisfying when "it" happened. I don't think this song has much replayability though...

Planet of the Shapes: cool. Primitive techno, but I think this was likely pretty advanced for the time. Not positive though, because at the time this came out, I was pretty much listening to Green Day, Jimi Hendrix, and Cypress Hill. I don't think I was even aware that electronic music existed at the time

Lush 3-2: I liked this more than Lush 3.1 (which wasn't bad or anything). This just sounds much more like the techno I finally got into in the very early 2000s. I suppose that probably says something about Orbital as a band, perhaps having influenced other artists to come

Impact: sort of anxiety-inducing around the 7 minute mark, and definitely so at the 9 minute mark

Walk Now: super much enjoying the didgeridoo on this track. It fits very nicely, and was a great way to open the track

I'm not sure if I'll come back to this album or not, but I'm glad I got to listen to it

I have never really paid much attention to this band, despite having heard of them. I really liked the three piece / trio arrangement in the band, and I REALLY enjoyed listening to the bassist and drummer who are obviously jazz musicians play a unique take on... whatever you call this. I was surprised I liked this as much as I did. I'll for sure add this album and more from the band to my own collection

I haven't listened to this album in probably 20 years, which is weird to say and makes me feel old.

I'm only part way through Around the World, and what a shit track this is. I liked it much better when it came out.

Parallel Universe is off to a much better start. Flea's bass break/the instrumental section was a treat, for sure.

This is maybe the worst mixed/produced album I have encountered on this list. I'm not even listening on great gear, and I'm having a hard time listening because of all the artifacts and compression. It's a shame even the remaster is bad because there is music on this album I really like. I tested both versions on tidal.

I still love Scar Tissue

Otherside has always been one of my favorite RHCP songs. Still true today

This album is SO FUCKING LOUD. Get On Top and Around the World, especially so

Californication is always a treat

Emmit Remus wasn't super enjoyable

This Velvet Glove: if someone had never heard of RHCP and asked what kind of music they played, this would be the song I'd play for them. Not in any sort of negative way, though. I quite liked this song

Road Trippin': I have always liked this easygoing guitar and soft vocal track.

I can't give this album 4 stars, but it's just the slightest bit south of 4.

Take This Waltz was the only track I got all the way through.

There is a characteristic of Leonard's vocal style that makes his voice seem horribly out of place with everything else in his songs, and I can't stand it. Take This Waltz was the only song he seemed to fit into correctly for me.

Listening to this album was like teaching someone how to drive a manual transmission: frustrating because you know how it's supposed to be, but also surprising because you didn't know your car was capable of performing in such weird ways when an amateur is in charge

21Adele

Rated 6/10

I kind of always discounted Adele because of all the hype surrounding her, while still knowing she was an impressive vocalist. This is the first time I have listened to one of her albums, and it was quite enjoyable.

I usually avoid "the new hotness that everyone is talking about" due to my (possibly misconceived) notion that what's popular is generic and created to be palatable to the masses, and therefore a bit watered down and vague. This album, to me, really doesn't make me change my mind about that type of music, but I really did have fun listening to this album.
