If this album were a painting — okay, let's be honest, it wouldn't end up in the Louvre — but I'd hang it in my house. Every time I walk past it in the hallway, I'll nod to myself and say, "hmm, isn't that a nice painting?" And then I would go to the kitchen and look for snacks.

I feel like Taylor Swift was put on this earth to pump out album after album of three-star-esque music.

I didn't know what to make of this record at first: a little confusing, a little beguiling. So I listened to it again the next day. It's enjoyable. But even though it was likely a bit of a revelation in 1991, in present day it feels like a superfluous addition to the great stack of canonical albums that is ~life~.

Arena rock is a tough sell for me, but this is actually fairly listenable. It gets a little draggy on the back half, but not enough to bring it down a star.

I would give this two stars just for Geddy Lee's vocals, but it's worse than that. I find very little to like about this album. The drums are just silly and the kick and toms sound totally dead. The guitar is either braindead riffing or wanky solos. This was a miserable experience.

I like the Byrds later stuff and I like folk rock in general, but this album feels undercooked to me. They needed to make this album to get a foot in the door, but I don't think they were ready for prime time yet. Three years later, different story.

I feel bad about this because Mark Knopfler seems like a good dude and a good guitarist, but I really hated this album. Schlocky, shmaltzy, 80s pop. Ick.

Obviously some great players on this, particularly the rhythm section, but I just don't like the material that much. Also, why go to the trouble of finding all these hot shot studio musicians and then be like, yeah, but I'm going to do the [mediocre] vocals myself?

Summer Breeze was pretty good. That Lady kinda sucks. The rest was toe-tappable but not all that memorable.

Garage rock taken to the next level. There were plenty of bands around for the 2000s rock revival but none of them were capable of making something like this.

Overall, I liked the electronic production although the tempos didn't vary much and there was a lack of dynamics and any sort of edge. Like most -pop music, a stiff breeze would blow it over, but there is a time and place for that.

Bad Company are known as a hard rock band, but there's nothing particularly hard about this album. I'd much rather listen to this than Back in Black or whatever. This dude can sing.

TuskFleetwood Mac

Rated 6/10

Critical analysis of Fleetwood Mac's work is always overwhelmed by the story of the band, the image of the band, and the inherent sensationalism of 70s rock. If we can bring ourselves to separate the art from the artists, then we can dispense with all the hand-wringing about this album. It's a totally harmless, middle-of-the road rock record. Next.

Fun ride, but probably best that they didn't become a smash hit and then try to make a bunch more albums. Captivating, obscure "lost" garage-psych albums are my weakness.

I have some respect for this type of music. For me, it evokes the image of some dude by himself in a dark basement, on a computer, strung out on insomnia and caffeine etc, just going wherever his crazed mind takes him (or her, whatever). Like, if I had created this, I think I would be somewhat proud of it. But I would probably not listen to this record again unless I really needed to just do some stimulants and speed-clean the house.
