It's really hard to listen to this in 2026 and give it an objective rating. I'm pretty confident that if I heard this when it first came out with fresh ears, I probably would be blown away by it. But I didn't. I came out a few years before I was even born, so I have spent 55 years of my life listening to this and all the rest of Dylan. Unfortunately, that makes me a little sick of it, and little jaded on Dylan overall.

So I'll just stick with my subjective scoring and be a little generous with four stars. Normally four stars are reserved for something that I'd be happy to put on it at any time, but the truth is I really didn't even feel like listening to it right now. But I did, and it's good, and it deserves to be highly regarded.

I was 16 when this came out. And it was a staple straight through college. So my rating is clearly biased, but this is the straight five star banger.

GooSonic Youth

Rated 6/10

This is such a mixed bag. Some of it is absolutely revolutionary, and some of it is laughably stupid. I think I appreciate Sonic youth more than I actually like them.

SmashThe Offspring

Rated 4/10

Four stars for the music. Minus two for Dexter's voice. I've never been able to listen to The Offspring, his voice just makes no sense for this type of music.

I was 7 when this album came out and I thought the lyrics were amazing! Killing beasts? Cool !

50 years later it just all sounds so cheesey. And I could be wrong, but I'm not.

I grew up in the '70s. Led Zeppelin and all the other hard rock classic rock bands are ingrained in my DNA. So much so that I'm completely sick of it and never ever reach for a classic rock album. But then I find myself pressing play on led Zeppelin IV because it's part of my journey on this 1001 album project. And I can't fucking stop listening. I thought I was sick of every note of this album, but I can't deny that I love every note of it.

I'll be honest, I'm not listening to this. My patience for pedophiles is at all all time low (yes that's a real sentence I never thought I'd have to say). It's 2026 and we (the USA) have a pedophile for a president. And somehow that's OK with a large portion of the population. It's not OK with me.

So I'm not going to stream this and fund this pedo. I'm going to give it 1 star and hope for something better tomorrow.

Is Wilco and this album way over hyped and over rated? Totally. Is my job to under rate this album as some sort of correction? Not at all. I'd give it 7/10, but I'll round up to 4/5.
