This is alright. It has all the hallmarks of 60’s pop music and not too much beyond that. Some songs reminded me of stuff Sam Cooke did years earlier or like other contemporary bands like Love or the Monkees. Favorites were Find Somebody, Groovin’, and You Better Run.

I think I get this. The scratchy guitars and strained vocals are held together by some absolutely bumping basslines. The long songs allow for the grooves to sit with you. Favorites were Swan Lake, Poptones, Socialist, and Graveyard.

There’s a moment in the song Therapy where she says “Still an introvert” and I just think it would be really great if she wrote a whole album about that and how sometimes she might be introvert. All jokes aside this is a fantastic album. Soulful instrumentals, great hooks, bars for days. Shoutout my boy Jorge! Favorite songs are Offense, Boss, Selfish, Therapy, and Flowers.

This feels like a major missed opportunity to me. Steve Earle did bluegrass on some of his later work and that would have been a more interesting inclusion. Unfortunately we are stuck with this cornball country rock. Like it’s fine enough but some of these lyrics are just kinda groan worthy. Favorite song was Hillbilly Highway.

I saw the global rating for this one and strapped myself in for something special. The people are wrong. This is not that bad. Lotta drugs were used here. Very experimental and it keeps me interested for the whole duration. Would I listen again? Probably not, but I’m glad I did. Favorites were The Minotaur’s Song, Mercy I Cry City, and Three Is. A Green Crown.

Much of the Brazilian music this project has introduced me to has been really interesting and worth my while. This one was not that…. I kept thinking it would get interesting when a cool rhythm or vocal passage would start, but it just never did. Absolutely slog to get through.

Back in BlackAC/DC

Rated 10/10

I love Led Zeppelin!! This is another to put in the Boston-self-titled club of so many hits on here it may as well be a greatest hits. Yes every AC/DC song is the same, but they just rock.

I think I Saw The Light was the only song I had heard before. There are a lot of songs here. Fortunately, a lot of these are very good. He covers many different styles over the long runtime. Something for everyone to love here. Favorites were I Saw The Light, Wolfman Jack, It Takes Two To Tango, Black Maria, Couldn’t I Just Tell You, Dust In The Wind, and Hello It’s Me.

Reminded me of Jethro Tull in terms of style. This was very good and it didn’t expect it to be given my thoughts on Steve Winwood’s solo material. Favorites were Freedom Rider, Empty Pages, and John Barleycorn.

Really great album. I think viewing from a modern lens the more mellow songs in the second half stand the test of time more. Highlights were Let The Good Times Roll, Tell Me You’ll Wait For Me, Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Cryin’, and Come Rain Or Come Shine.

On this album Rod Stewart continues to prove that he has an interesting voice and some very ok songwriting. Also the weird fragmented bits like the intro to Maggie May and the version of Amazing Grace tacked onto the end of That’s All Right seem kinda pointless. Favorites were Tomorrow Is A Long Time and Maggie May.

You can tell Blur was finding their footing with this one. I don’t think it quite reaches the heights of Parklife, but it’s still solid. Miss America is kinda just nothing. Favorites were For Tomorrow, Advert, Chemical World, Oily Water, and Turn It Up.

ThirdPortishead

Rated 6/10

Never taken the time to get into Portishead. I knew this and their debut were beloved, but I expected this to be closer to trip hop than it was. I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of the first half of this album, but from We Carry On onward I was hooked. This created a very good sense of unease.

It’s interesting how he lets these songs breathe. Also weirdly enough this sounds like it influenced the vocal stylings of Eddie Vedder. Probably not going to back to this. Somewhat meandering at times. Gypsy Woman is my favorite song here.

Is This ItThe Strokes

Rated 10/10

This is the first album generated where I already own it on vinyl. Needless to say I love this album. I prefer New York City Cops to When It Started. I love the guitar tones, the tight songwriting, the lyrics. It all radiates such youth and energy.

Listen guys. There are some good songs here. But like four Dylan covers might be pushing it. And the original Mr Tambourine Man is way better. Favorites were I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better, All I Really Want To Do, Chimes Of Freedom, and We’ll Meet Again.

Neu! ’75Neu!

Rated 10/10

I listened to this five times before writing this review. This is my favorite krautrock album I’ve listened to so far. The first half is more ambient and flows like ocean waves. The second half keeps the same entrancing rhythms while ramping up the excitement. Really great stuff.

Slayed?Slade

Rated 4/10

This is kinda cheeks innit? Like T Rex if it was stupid. Like Alice Cooper but less entertaining. The best song here is probably Move Over, but Slade doesn’t really add much to the original in their cover it’s just an already great song. Not a fan.

TechniqueNew Order

Rated 8/10

Alright, first of all, the disrespect to not have Power Corruption and Lies on the list is crazy. That’s an easy 5. Anyway, moving on to this: much more synthy and danceable compared to Low Life. The sheep noises in the first song were a choice. Some of this was almost Smith’s adjacent. Favorite songs were All The Way, Round & Round, Run, and Dream Attack.
