Well, I loved Maggot Brain but while that was psychedelic funk this was just Funk with a capital F. I loved the energy, the rough and ready beats but still prefer the Maggots.

Rated 6/10

Funk music is always a fun time. Some of the songs have repetitive elements and are long, but they're meant to be catchy and danceable. In addition, there were so many random sound effects and bits of dialogue. And the guitar solos in a few of the songs were meandering but pretty amazing, along with the other guitar work in general. I really liked the live instrumental track "Maggot Brain".

Listened to it while on a walk so I'm sure that bumped it up a star but I was walking with a little funk in small town Idaho late at night while enjoying this album. The lyrics didn't really hit for me on most song but they seemed to be an afterthought anyways so for the funk alone, 3 stars

Rated 6/10

Wish I loved this more. A lot of it was just so repetitive and went on too long. Loved the opening track though.

This is one funky record. Such a nice groove throughout yet not as good as some of the earlier records. Glad to have listened to it with this list as I had put it off with it not being on Spotify at one point.

I’m sorry I just really don’t like funk

holy shit they can play

This is my last P-Funk album of the project. For some reason, it is not on Spotify, so I had to find it on YouTube. Anyway, this is a good 70s R&B/funk record with a rock edge. It also has some of the best song titles I've ever seen(try topping "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad(The Doo Doo Chasers)" as a song title). Thankfully, the actual songs hold up to snuff, with some legitimately great grooves and excellent playing, not to mention some lyrics that are great in their absurdity and simplicity. "Think! Think! It Ain't Illegal Yet" hits especially hard in today's era of growing authoritarianism and rightwing nationalism within the United States and elsewhere. So, who says a funk band can't play rock? Not anyone who's ever listened to Funkadelic, that's for sure. Though the songs are a bit in the long side, they are still excellent funk-rock tunes for grooving to-and then doing air guitar to some of the solos and riffs.

This album is ranked #7 of 33 albums for 1978 by global rating. Other 1978 albums rated by me:

Absolute peak funk filled with great riffs and amazing guitar.

Slightly disappointed … was expecting to love it but it was just OK.

I've never been a big fan or connoiseur of funk music. So, even if I understand this is pretty good and musicians are very good, I was not terribly excited about it. In any case, the album is indeed very good (and, interestingly, not as "disco-funk" as I thought). I really enjoyed some of the songs, which, all things being said, tend to be too long.
In particular, I enjoyed the end section of "Groovallegiance" (nice guitars), "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?", or "Promentals..." (too long though).
Interestingly, I enjoyed all three songs in the EP more than I did with any of the songs of the main album. So, I really liked "Lunchmeataphobia", "P.E. Squad...", and "Maggot Brain" (my favourite track in the whole "album").
It's in the range of 3 (without the EP) or 4 stars (if the EP is included) for me.

Rated 4/10

El de Magot me gustó más, este lo he oído de fondo. No he sabido apreciarlo, pero como digo a menudo si el disco no consigue atraerme cuando suena es complicado que me guste.

Ok whats their obsession with fart noises and shit? The other album of theirs was bad enough, but now this?

So incredibly superb

4/5. My first brush with the Funkadelic/Parliament funk empire on the generator, and what a good one to start with. Sadly it’s not currently up on streaming (due to a record label dispute from what I understand) but there was a decent rip of it on YouTube. It starts very strong with the title track which has a fantastic bass-line along with some strong vocal delivery. And the album continues on that same pace with several great long funk-rock jams, including a really great live rendition of the Maggot Brain guitar solo near the end.

Rated 4/10

this was ok but maggot brain was better

Rated 8/10

Okay, this was probably the precursor to so many G-funk tracks. Each track flows well, forming a cohesive sound that explores different grooves and tempos. And personally, it just makes me want to dance!!

It's a quintessential funk album but also one that's undeniably proud of its Black roots. All that to say, I want nothing but the funk, George!

Funker bra det her, men savner sterkere låtfokus.
