What a wonderful listen. I think this project is slowly making me more of a fan of funk/soul. It’s an actual crime this gem isn’t on Spotify.

Rated 6/10

L'album pose d'ailleurs la question directement avec "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!".

Note : 3/5

Maybe a bit too indulgent for me. Fun though.

'Here's a chance to dance our way / Out of our constrictions.' If you ever needed proof that funk was our very best salubrious and patriotic wager, One Nation Under A Groove would be your decisive testimony: 'W/ the united funk we can fly.' I'd press you to take them seriously: imagine what national politics could achieve under a groove rather than aligned w/ shitty powers [see '...(The Doo-Doo Chasers)']. Yes, the songs are jumbo, but for once the avant-garde - b/c that's what they really are ('Fried Ice Cream is a reality!') - is for fun and wholeness rather than masturbatory chops + licks. And don't get it twisted, it's one of the all-time rock records: 'We're gonna rock and roll the crowd / Just watch them dance, watch them dance.'

This isn't just an album, this is a complete experience. I haven't listened every Parliament / Funkadelic album there is, but this seems to be regarded as their last great album. And what a great album it is. It's like a blend of everything learned from their past years as a group, combined with new influences like Disco. The added live parts bring this album to life even more so. I also think the Maggot Brain performance here is better than the version on the album of the same name. What a brilliant album, I wish it were even longer.

Fun stuff going on but as a whole... Not something I'll be going back to.

Rated 8/10

Would be three stars but Mike Hamptons Guitar freaking sings!

Also, is it mandatory that 95% of funks lyrics have to be the word funk over and over again?

Rated 10/10

Way back on Day 8 of this project I generated Maggot Brain by Funkadelic and it blew my mind, the title track literally gave me goosebumps. I had actually forgotten they had another album on the list so I was genuinely excited to see this pop up today and it did not disappoint. This is an absolute BANGER of an album. It’s too early to say if I rate it as highly as Maggot Brain but it’s definitely going to be close.

Top Track - Who Says A Funk Band Can’t Play Rock?

Rated 6/10

Rated 8/10

It’s no Maggot Brain but FUCK it’s pretty good

Rated 4/10

Title track catchy ma troppo monotona e lunga.

Rated 10/10

I funked everywhere

Rated 5/10

This was a lot less "in your face" than I expected. Maybe that's my misunderstanding of Funk, but I was anticipating something much more frenetic.
Spotify doesn't have this one, so I had to fight ads to listen on YT... Probably not the best way to get 'under a groove', but I tried. Overall it's not a difficult listen, but not really my thing. My favorite song might be "Maggot Brain", but that's a bonus track that was added later. Otherwise, "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis" stood out, and so did "Who Says A Funk Bank Can't Play Rock?!" but the latter only because it's a pure funk song and doesn't seem to support any argument that they can play rock. Ironically, "Maggot Brain" is straight rock & roll and does more to support the thesis. So that’s fun.

I would like to thank the 1001 Albums Generator for helping me discover that I love funk.

Rated 6/10

Really liked the first half, felt like it lost its way around the second - never heard poop mentioned so much in an album before

Rated 8/10

Funky, chill, and proper fun.

Rated 6/10

Pretty nice funk, but does go on a bit too long.

The album is also unavailable on Spotify.

Rated 10/10

So weird and so awesome, this stuff is fun to listen to and the carves its own path. Great mix of instrumentation and rhythm, makes you want to flip it back over and play again.

Rated 8/10

Own it. Fantastic stuff.

Rated 8/10

Pretty cool album, a little too close to psych and prog rock for me. Best song is by far the 4th one Doo Doo chasers. Loved that one, but overall I think Maggot Brain is much better. I would give this one a mid 4. Still loved it
