Another great one!

Rated 8/10

Very cool stuff but a few of the songs near the end were just too repetitive.

Rated 6/10

It's a lot of fun, with lyrics that keep surprising.

Again Psychedelic [whatever] proves to be my weakness, and Psychedelic Funk should be a crime, and George Clinton should be put on trial for being far too funky for the rest of the world to stand.

Rated 6/10

I like it, I just can’t get all the way there with it.

Interesting that this is the first album in 100+ I've come across that was taken off Spotify. But it's another banger from Funkadelic. Some of it is a little silly, sure, but it's not often you find this kind of mix of great music that is not meant to be take seriously. As always with pretty much anything George Clinton related, the musicianship is what really stands out here. Just fantastic playing all around. Maggot Brain, as always, is a treat. Absolutely one of the best instrumentals of all time. 4.5/5 but rounding down to 4 because of the ridiculous album cover that looks like something I drew in 3rd grade.

Rated 6/10

Progressive! Wish I could hear it on something other than youtube though.

Rated 4/10

„Maggot Brain“ live ist ein tolles Gitarrensolo. Der Rest ist Selbstbeweihräucherung und Drugs-Beat verstaubter Party Keller der 70er. Wenn diese Songs der Spirit der 70er sein sollte, weiß man warum die Welt auf ABBA wartete.

Rated 6/10

Lots of reviews say this is funkadelic's best album. I disagree. Uncle Jam Wants You is better IMHO, but I grew up on that album.

Maggot Brain is listed as a bonus track. Always think of Ken's Show on WFMU when I hear.

Rated 4/10

I have no idea what to even say about this. There's an entire song about poop, though. So that's fun.

Rated 8/10

4.22 per track. Wish I could give this 5 stars.

Rated 10/10

The musicianship on this is excellent. Fantastic bass playing. I greatly enjoyed this album. The Parliament album we got recently was pretty good, but this was a notch above it.

Rated 8/10

The thing about listening to an album like this is that you sign up for this sort of ethereal experience where once you lose that initial luster of a new soundscape, you start to lose your focus, and once you start to lose the focus, you miss out on the nuances of the performance – the guitar player working overtime to hit every note, the bass player who has to keep the rhythm, the drummer working so fast in syncopation – that once you finally get back into reality, everything that you’ve been listening to hits you like a truck. When you’re listening, it’s a vibe, and it’s a vibe you don’t appreciate until that moment that it ends.

The soundscapes in this album do eventually overwhelm you, and your enjoyment of this album is truly dependent on how much of that soundscape you can stay engaged for. This album, sonically, is nothing short of incredible; every instrument mixed to perfection, every drum kick, every bass strum, every guitar solo just lies perfectly where it needs to. At some point, I got lost in it. However, I can’t give it a 5/5 just because at some points, I briefly woke up from that entrancing feeling. My best advice? Just let go. Put in some headphones, walk around, and let this album carry you.

it's like a 4.5/5 though

Funky! But the filler is forgettable. 2.5/5

Rated 8/10

Great album, obviously incredibly funky. Overall I thought this was a better album than Maggot Brain, although not as good as Parliament's Mothership Connection. Huge pact on popular music, particularly via hip hop sampling. I think some of the songs do run a bit long, but its still a solid 8/10 for me.

Rated 8/10

Controlled chaos that's both genre defining and genre bending - bringing elements of jazz, rnb/soul, reggae, and rock together for a 45 minute funk dance party. There's a real house party atmosphere to this - like a performance going with a constantly rotating cast. Each song is loaded with ideas pulling it in different directions - vocalists come and go, guitar shredding fades in and out, the bass sets up the main beat then goes for a melodic wander, there's a guy standing next to the mic just making little comments, synths and horns have cameos for quick riffs and solos - but all it coheres around a rhythmic idea and tonal center, under a groove. The constant guitar solo over the top is such a funny touch, it's like a guy noodling along at home to an album accidentally got overdubbed onto the official release. The party vibe means it's pretty unfocused: the songs are a good time, but also a long time.

Rated 6/10

Rated 6/10

I really liked some of the songs, and really didn't like a few of them. Excellent bass and guitar work which kept it interesting. It was a fine listen.
