Nice! Never heard of this before, a descent underground sound, I'm a fan, will probably be solid 3 stars here. Just set this at 3.5 on RYM as it somewhat reminds me of good underground hip-hop concept album like Deltron 3030, worth listening, but not great still! Definitely one to REVISIT as well! P.S. in song "Planet 10", did he sample Gorecki's symphony of sorrow???! That is an amazing choise of sample

Rated 8/10

Chill, creative hip hop, though I got a bit bored in the middle.

Rated 8/10

Really cool beats on this one. Cool vocal delivery and probably some interesting lyrics, even though I don't really pay attention to them most of the type. Gotta give it props for being one of the most baller album covers on the list as well. I thought it did go on for a bit long, somewhere in the latter two thirds I started checking out. Don't know if it's my lack of attention span or just a lot of albums on the list not really being able to sustain being great for over an hour. Really cool album and could see myself listening to some songs from this, probably not the entire thing.

Rated 3/10

Okay at times but in totality I couldn't really get into it, and its runtime is definitely longer than what it can keep my interest.

Rated 6/10

I didn't find this all that interesting.

Rated 6/10

Not totally sure THIS is the alt hip hop record I'd pick for a list like this, but maybe I'm missing some context. I might pick something by MF DOOM, or maybe El-P's I'll Sleep When You're Dead instead. The latter of which also contains some futuristic concepts that compare to this record.

I think this album does come together and figure itself out in the back half, but the early tracks felt a little disjointed. I'll give it another listen and see if I change my mind.

Rated 10/10

Weird vibe based rap and it rules. The longer it goes the deeper it pulls you in; hypnotic in a great way

Rated 8/10

The beats on this LP are more expansive and multi-layered than you'd typically the expect, the product of various different collaborators, they lift this album to a whole different level. Mike Ladd has a funny attitude that gives his jazz rap an amiable vibe. His rapping and occasional singing does not match the quality of the beats but they do add to the overall strangeness of this record. It's all pleasingly weird.

Rated 4/10

Ambitious but ultimately doesn’t quite execute the ideas.

Rated 2/10

After tracks 3 & 4 I pencilled in ‘1 star’.

Nothing after that was quite as bad but also heard nothing to change my mind.

Rated 4/10

I suspect 𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 earned its place on the 1001 Albums list more for its unusual sound and atmosphere than for its individual songs. The murky, futuristic production is intriguing at first, and a handful of tracks made me curious about where Mike Ladd was taking all this.

Unfortunately, the longer the album goes on, the less interested I become. What initially feels inventive gradually turns repetitive, and the atmosphere alone isn’t enough to sustain such a lengthy record. There are interesting ideas scattered throughout, but far too much time spent waiting for the next one.

The afterfuture might be worth a visit, but I certainly wouldn’t book an extended stay.

Rated 6/10

That was one of the most unusual albums of the collection so far. I liked it pretty well too. It was too far out there to categorize it simply as hip-hop or rap, it was too experimental for that. I highly recommend for those with an open mind. It also felt like a spiritual successor to Dr. Octagon's self-titled album.

Rated 4/10

I was vibing with the first 3 songs on this, then it became more uninteresting (for me). Bestie sometimes you're just saying things for the sake of saying things, and sometimes you sound like Multiple Miggs. Not much shouting until the shouting one.

Rated 6/10

Another new one to me. Moody 90s/00s beats. I like this kind of thing, even if it doesn't really go anywhere or do anything new.

Rated 4/10

Some interesting stuff surrounded by absolute navel gazing.

Rated 8/10

Seems like nobody really liked this (not just the anti-rap weirdos on here but across a lot of different platforms) but really special I think, futuristic and strange and a bit of a gem

Rated 8/10

Illbient, my new word for the day and a brilliant genre idea and name. Even better than Glambient.

Rated 8/10

Something completely new and interesting. Very boring at times but I highly value the uniqueness factor.

Rated 2/10

Boooooooooooring. The music. The rapping. The production. All of it just so dull.
