Not the worst thing ever. This album is actually pretty good at times, but it really doesn't do anything exceptionally well.

I get the spot this holds in the Seattle rock scene, it’s got that messy garage punk vibe and plenty of fuzzy riffs. Parts of it are fun and definitely nail that DIY '90s aesthetic, but overall, most of the songs just kind of blend together for me. It ends up feeling more like background noise than a standout record.
Compared to earlier stuff like Superfuzz Bigmuff, this just doesn't have the same bite. It’s cool to hear the raw, dirty sound that helped build that scene, but it lacks the real energy. It’s decent enough, but compared to the heavy hitters of that era it just feels a bit flat and forgettable.

I was interested at the beginning, but then it turned into mumblerock.

The Good: We get fudge!
The Bad: We don’t know what kind of fudge…
The Ugly: Don’t want to find out what we get if we are bad boys…
1991 was an awesome year to be young (as in, old enough to drink “legally”, young enough to know nothing about 1960’s music, or even ‘70s music.
Saturday Night Live probably had one of the best casts ever.
Beer was cheap, smokes were cheaper, and fuel was given away for free… almost.
I watched the movie “Singles”, still have a DVD copy at home, and it acted as a small documentary of what grunge was all about…
My favorite band of that style is Temple of the Dog… missing on the list, to my knowledge.
Anyway, Mudhoney was a band who’s name I heard here and there, and I probably heard a song or two by them hidden somewhere in the back… So, listening to this album was like me busting my cherry 3 1/2 decades later…
I was not impressed. Yes, it has noise. Yes, it has guitar. Yes, it is grungy.
I believe that I could have done without this album…
2 1/2* upgraded to 3*, because I like to support guitar based music...

Mudhoney never really did it for me the way the other big grunge bands did, but I still respect them as trailblazers. You can hear all the elements of grunge and later 90s bands to come, especially Nirvana and Pavement.

it's ok. theres better sludge and better grunge out there.

Not as rough a diamond as their first (very short) album and sounded more like they went into the studio with the bare bones of each track and then 'jammed' it out. But yes it was ok.
Rated 6/10
It started and ended lacking in quality compared to how good the songs in the middle were. High 3

Never. really listened, some interesting musical keys, not so much. on the rhythm side though

2.5/5. Mudhoney were in many ways the band that ushered in the sound of the 90’s. Before Nirvana or any of the other Grubge acts, Seattle had Mudhoney. They never reached the levels of success that the bands they influenced after the grunge explosion would, but they were one of the first to do it, even bringing a pre-Nevermind nirvana on tour with them. so their legacy is undeniable and they definitely deserve to be on a list like this. That being said, I was left feeling pretty indifferent on this album. There’s nothing bad on here but also nothing that really stuck out to me as particularly great. definitely a case where they walked so other bands could take a similar sound and run.

Raucous noise, apparently recorded on Nanna's cassette player, lands somewhere between Velvet Underground and Nirvana. Which isn't a bad place to be.
Loose, grungey goodness.

I don't really have any strong feelings about this one. It's alright. It's a little murky and rough around the edges. It all kind of bleeds into one. But.. I kind of dig its shabby charm.
Rated 6/10
Really good fuzzed out garage rock. Lumped in with the grunge scene by virtue of proximity only. Favorite track: Thorn
Rated 4/10
didn’t hate it
Rated 6/10
A little too punk to be grunge. A little too rock to be emo. A little too disconnected to be alternative. Just misses. 3.
Rated 4/10
Interesting record but nothing really stands out. They were probably pioneers to their sound but there were other bands that did so better.

Can see why it's on the list in terms of history. Lacking in the enjoyment department. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.
Rated 2/10
This is awful

I don’t think this is quite as good as Superfuzz Bigmuff. I just wish this was a little louder. It doesn’t sound quite as “big” as the other big grunge bands, but I think partially that’s because they came first. Favorite songs were Good Enough, Something So Clean, Who You Drivin’ Now?, Pokin’ Around, and Don’t Fade IV.
