Ich mag wenig 80s Hip Hop und wenig 90s Hip Hop, das ist irgendwo dazwischen und ich finds eigentlich ganz ok.
Rated 8/10
This album is almost all fire except for the song Milky Cereal. That song is corny as hell and sucks. His flows on here are great, the beats are fun, and the lyrics are clever and quotable. High quality hip-hop album. Favorites were Around The Way Girl, Eat Em Up L Chill, Farmers’ Blvd, and Mama Said Knock You Out.

This is not for me. This is also not a great album

Tittelsporet og åpningssporet er knalltøffe. Det er noen topper her og der, men altfor ujevnt til å tåle timen.

Old school hip hop, could've been worse
Rated 6/10
До того як лл кул джей став другорядним актором, він мав оцей мега хіт. Пісня звісна супер відома, та і загалом альбом слухається адекватно зараз. 3 або 3.5, хз

Title song is awesome, rest is solid

Maybe its cause im listening 36 years later- but man this sounds hokey?
Just a little late for old school and a little too early for gangster- it sits in this awkward spot.
Social Conscious of Zulu, nope.
Life of poor upbringing of gangster, nope.
Just kinda feels like trying to be both while being nothing.

This one was quite good, and oddly enough didn't feel as if it went on as long as it did, which is always nice. I don't mind it being "dated" since a decent chunk of hip-hop from around this time was too. The songs towards the end were the better ones I think.
It's nothing mind-blowing or greatly spectacular, but it's pretty good otherwise. On the higher side of a 3.

I wore this tape OUT in the 90s, but today was when I learned that Run The Jewels was named after a lyric from one of the songs on this album. That makes it 27% cooler.
This is a 3 star album that is getting an extra star because it makes me feel good.

My recollection of LL Cool J is that he was better than this. Pretty ordinary beats, flow and subject matter. Spotify went on to an earlier track that was much better.

Fav track: Eat Em Up L Chill
Least fav: Illegal Search
Rated 2/10
Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J is up for today, and after a pretty poor week of albums, I wasn’t optimistic going in. Unfortunately, this didn’t turn things around.
My overriding feeling is that this album is far too long and now sounds seriously dated. Some of the lyrics are uncomfortable at best and frankly awful at worst lines like “I sure wouldn’t rape you” being used as a pickup line are bad enough for the time, and completely indefensible now.
That said, there are some strong beats here. The production is often sharp and hard-hitting, but it’s constantly let down by rapping that feels clumsy, boastful and irritating rather than clever or charismatic.
Favourite track: Mama Said Knock You Out easily the standout and the only moment where everything actually comes together.
Least favourite tracks: Milky Cereal is genuinely awful, and 6 Minutes of Pleasure somehow manages to outstay its welcome despite lasting barely four.
Album artwork: Standard, generic rap album cover does the job
Rated 4/10
Really boring and repetitive. Couldn’t wait for it to be over
Rated 8/10
3.5 that gets an extra bump cuz he's the OG.

Post-old school? Is that a rap genre?
I like this for the same reason hardcore hip hop fans hate it: LL Cool J appeals to the mainstream, and you can actually hear what he's saying. There's not as much lingo and obscure inside jokes in these, unlike a lot of other hip hop. The west coast stuff that was getting popular around this time was especially incomprehensible and unrelatable to most of us, whereas LL Cool J talked about girls primarily, and how he knows he pissed of the "community" because of the above and sorry he's just more popular than you (not sorry, he will knock you out).
The mainstream always eats the underground. Here's an example. It's entertaining to someone like me. A lot of other albums from the genre are difficult at best. This is more fun. It doesn't seem like anyone died.

Honestly not what I was expecting from this. For some reason I was thinking LL Cool J was more around the late 90's/early 2000's, so was expecting more complex rhyme schemes.
As it stands, this is just not working for me. It's that old school, style of rapping that I don't really care for. The instrumentals are solid, but not particularly standing out to me either.
Rated 4/10
I liked the samples for the most part and LL has a good flow, but his lyrics either didn’t age well or weren’t good in the first place.
Rated 6/10
Highs and lows. I genuinely do like Ladies Love Cool James. I think it's funny that he plays both the Heel and the Babyface in rap and maybe was one of the first to treat it like a wrestling star in a way? I like his flow for the era. That said it gets to be a little stale in places on this album
