Rated 4/10

This one really has that classic feel. I just didn’t like it like some of the others I’ve listened to from this era. Also the cover of Lucille takes absolutely all the sauce out of the song.

Rated 8/10

A really good retro pop album, enjoyed this for what it is. Obviously can’t stand up to classic albums from 1965 onwards, but still good for its time, and makes my frequent rotation.

Rated 6/10

Per my ten year old "It is good. Not like good for today, but good for old music". 3/5

Rated 4/10

Ideale plaat om mijn dochter van bijna 2 maanden in slaap te krijgen. Helaas heeft de plaat bij papa hetzelfde effect.

Ik ga een lijstje maken. 101 albums die te gedateerd zijn om nog op te zetten...

Rated 8/10

I think I liked this more, and maybe a lot more, than I expected based on the album cover. Early rock-n-roll/pop. You can hear where The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and countless other bands were influenced by these guys. Sure some of the lyrics and musical styings are very dated, but it's almost 65 years old at this point. I'd listen to this one again.

Rated 6/10

A nice selection of calm songs about love.

Liked songs:
Baby What You Want Me To Do
Sigh, Cry, Almost Die
Love Hurts
A Change of Heart
Cathy's Clown

Rated 4/10

Sounds clean, but album was putting me to sleep. I'm sure this was iconic in its time, but not sure now. 2*

Rated 6/10

God so much of rock was just ripped right out of a blues cradle. Always Its You is a good song.

Rated 4/10

Tämän listan jälkeen eipä kauheesti tunnu miltään enää tällänen geneerinen 60-luvun brittimeno. Ehkä aiemmin olis antanu kolmosen, nyt tuntuu huonommalta kuin monet muut verrokit.

Rated 8/10

Not the most challenging listen, but this really opens up once it gets going. Graceful and tender.

Rated 8/10

Very enjoyable listen. Classic songwriting. Pure and simple.

Rated 8/10

Okay, I guess.

Rated 8/10

Not my usual vibe at all but honestly I can dig it. The production is super clean for an album from 1960 (even considering the fact that I listened to a remastered version). Love Hurts is a classic song.

Rated 6/10

The Everly Brothers are a 50's - 60's pop group, similar to Elvis Presley or Buddy Holly. A lot of their content deals with how lovely girls are, and being in love. It absolutely feels of its time in that respect, but it is fantastic music all the same.

The Everly Brothers were one of the first "rock 'n' roll" groups, and were there at the formation of the genre. Their harmonies added something to an already popular style of music, and allowed their music to stand out from the rest.

I'm sure younger kids are wondering why these two are huddled around a box with a phone in it on the cover of the album.

Overall, a great record. Nothing I would rush out and buy or listen to, but this late 50's - early 60's rock 'n' roll isn't really in my wheelhouse of favourite genres. That being said, I'm not disappointed about having to listen to it today either. It is perfectly average.

Favourite songs: Lucille, Made For Love, Love Hurts, So How Come (No One Loves Me), "Donna, Donna"

Least favourite songs: That's Just Too Much, "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die"

Rated 4/10

Maybe the most boring album I've come across on this list so far. I'll give it a two, because the singing is great, but nothing else of interest here. Not to mention the lyrics, which are almost entirely about outdated gender roles. Buddy Holly is a much more interesting artist from the same time period.

Rated 6/10

A fun time for sure

Rated 4/10

Very old, very short, very rubbish. Falls between country, early rock and roll, and the balladeer tradition, without being anywhere near as interesting and engaging as any of them.

Rated 8/10

I was born in 1980 but I have the overwhelming urge to hop into my jalopy and hang out at the milkshake bar.

Rated 4/10

Welcome to 12-bar blues central, the zeitgeist of the late 50s white collar America, where the women are loose and fade-outs are cheap.

Rated 8/10

Love their harmonies. It's all pretty basic rock and roll, but they sound fantastic. I'm not clear on why the authors chose this album for the 1001 albums and not the Everly Brothers debut album, which includes classics "Bye Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie." Still, this is definitely a good album. Favorite tracks: Love Hurts (I didn't know they debuted Love Hurts - they didn't write it though), Lucille (Little Richard cover), Cathy's Clown (great harmonies again). Some tracks were cheesy: Made to Love ("girls, girls, girls were made to love." Motley Crue has nothing on the Everly Brothers), "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die" just made me think, "gee, it's tough to be a teenager." And I'm sure lots of teenyboppers screamed when they sang "So How Come No One Loves Me." Anyway, calling it a 4 for their fantastic harmonies.
