Rated 4/10

Overall: 5/10
I really can’t get into it. Idk if it’s because of the lead vocalist’s voice or what but it’s not for me. It’s tolerable, but I’m not putting this shit on willingly.

Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground: Twas ok.

Hotel Yorba: I like the country vibe. Will be added to my 🤠 playlist.

I’m Finding it Hard to be a Gentleman: not bad, just not for me. Love the guitar holding it down tho.

Fell In Love With a Girl: Idek. Like I kinda don’t like it, but I kinda do.

Expecting: Not my cup of tea.

Little Room: lol this was different and I like it.

The Union Forever: Boring to me.

The Same Boy You’ve Always Known: I tuned out.

We’re Going to Be Friends: This is sweet.

Offend In Every Way: Not too bad. Guitar kept my interest for sureski.

I Think I Smell a Rat: Great opening. I like that’s its short.

Aluminum: Nice lil interlude or whatever.

I Can’t Wait: Fuckkkk that guitar.

Now Mary: Not memorable.

I Can Learn: Eh.

This Protector: I’m not wow’ed.

Some great songs, especially early on in the album. But a few duds as well and the production didn't quite draw me in as much as other WS/JW albums.

Rated 8/10

Another great one today, first one from the White Stripes for me on this list. A strong entry, a really good album, but for me, it does lack something to reach the perfection, therefore I will give it strong 4 stars.

Rated 10/10

This album is beautifully made. Every song is interesting and good to listen to. They change it up quite a bit with song length, theme and style. It's everything I want in an album, honestly.

Rated 2/10

Great!

Rated 10/10

maybe the coolest album of all time

Rated 10/10

Saw the perform on late night tv and immediately headed to buy this cd. It’s been huge in my life since. Absolutely 5 stars for me. Still a regular in my rotation.

Rated 10/10

This seems to sit somewhere between one of Alan Lomax's Smithsonian field recordings and the Velvet Undeground's White Light / White Heat.

It seems to have been recorded in a barn with the artists standing around a single microphone. If you're looking for slick, shining, perfectly produced, Brian Eno sound then go somewhere else immediately.

Guitars scream, voices howl, drums thunder. It's all just a bit glorious.

Exactly what those voices are howling ABOUT is open to discussion, but in this sort of thing it's the thought that counts.

40 minutes of pleasure.

Rated 10/10

Very close contest between this and Elephant for the best White Stripes album. Lots of diversity in songwriting here. It’s a fun time that flows really well. We’re Going To Be Friends feels like the quaint type of song Paul would have written to slot right in the middle of a Beatles album.

Rated 8/10

I once saw someone criticizing the documentary “It Might Get Loud,” saying that Jack White didn’t deserve to be in that lineup. It’s a frankly baffling take.

When teaching my guitar students songs by the White Stripes, I try to point out that the sloppiness is the point. It’s what makes The White Stripes The White Stripes. Meg White’s simple but powerful drums are just as much a part of it as Jack White’s guitar and vocals.

It rocks. What more can be said?

Rated 4/10

Bashing around playing blues riffs on loud crappy amps and howling into the microphone is an impulse as old as crappy amps; it's fun for all involved (except anyone listening). I get the spirit, but despite trying semi regularly cannot get past finding this band grating and mostly annoying.

Rated 8/10

'All they got inside is vacancy.' Like all rockers, Jack White is a romantic as well as a Romantic. At bottom, he's a gentleman, w/ the proper etiquette and a feel for civility, but he also has an itch for self-expression at all costs: 'Maybe I should carry you / Then you said "You almost dropped me" / So I did / And I got mud on my shoes.' Jack and Meg are more than economy, and certainly more than rock revival, they're good sense + the stewardship of rock 'n' roll decorum. The songs that comprise this record, arguably the best of their tenure, are neither cool nor uncool, unusual nor prosaic: they exist on the plane of rituals and mores. Jack knows he's just a fella: 'I'm coming thru the door / But they're expecting more of an interesting man.'

Rated 8/10

Fantastic bluesy/garage rock. Two genres I generally am not huge on, but The White Stripes knock it out of the park. Well deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And I'll defend Meg White's drumming until the end of time. Sure, she's not technically the best drummer, but she is exactly what The White Stripes needed. Put any other drummer in her spot, and the band would be demonstrably worse, and it'd be worse by many factors.

Hit after hit after hit with great deep cuts like The Union Forever. Great record.

Rated 6/10

I thought I really liked The White Stripes, I mean I love Elephant but did not really enjoy this one the same.

Rated 8/10

16 songs in 40 mins. If you get fed up of one just wait 30 seconds.

Rated 8/10

The thing I loved about White Stripes was how much they pissed off the Metalheads in school:

‘jAcK cAnT sInG’
‘iTs JuSt TeH pEnTaToNiC sCaLe’
‘mEg CaNt EvEn PlAy TeH dRuMs’
‘tHeY dOnT eVeN hAvE a BaSsIsT lMaO’

All these things are true. It doesn’t stop them being the ultimate ‘better-than-the-sum-of-their-parts’ band.

So STFU and go back to listening to dragonforce and wanking over orcs, Dan.
