I loved every second of Vulgar Display Of Power. This is easily among the quintessential thrash metal albums and for very good reason as it was just an amazing album all throughout. Everything about this album was a plus. From the heavy guitars, aggressive vocals, insane lyrics and rough production added so much to my enjoyment of this album. I was expecting a lot of the songs to sound so samey but there were plenty of little things put into each song to help make them their own. I honestly can't think of too many bad things to say about this album as i just had so much fun with it throughout the whole thing.
Best Song: This Love
Worst Song: By Demons Be Driven

Pre Listen:
Another album I'm not really feeling the album art for, and artist I've never heard of. Could be good! Could be not good! Who knows, no expectations.

Notable Tracks:
Walk - Opinion on the album started to really form here. Kind of boring. Musical equivalent of walking!
Fucking Hostile - Fuck me it's only been one song since Walk? This isn't good.
Live in a Hole - Probably my favorite on the album. Feels like it has the most variety. The guitarist really gets to shine here.

Post Listen:
Out of all the heavier stuff I've heard on here so far, this one's probably the lamest. Scratchy voice semi-screamo vocals and a heavy guitar with minimal changes in tempo, rhythm, chords, etc. The drum is there to keep a beat, nothing more. The bass just copies the main guitarist, but with less flair. To be completely fair, the guitarist was the strongest member of the band, with some good solos.

I mentally categorize this type of music as "Biker Rock". It's the kind of thing losers who smell like cigarettes and wear black leather listen to, and think it makes them tough. Maybe one day decades ago it did, but now it's so played out.

I think I heard a song or two from this album in an older Guitar Hero game, idk. 2/5.

It’s 6:15am. Let’s make some coffee to wake up and hit play on today’s album…. Ok this is like a music espresso. Not really for me. Every song sounds the same. The vocals are just not for me. Vulgar display of a huge steaming pile of shite.

It's been a long time since I listened to this album.

As a guitar album, this is a high-water mark for the instrument. Dime is just showing off and making so many other guitarists look silly. (And Vinnie and Rex are similarly putting down excellent work.) However, since the album came out, Phil Anselmo has proven himself to be kind of inexcusable. I also love Phil's singing on this album, but I can't reconcile the person with the musician. So, this is a complicated rating I'm going to have to give this album. Musically, I love this album, but I don't want my rating of this to be construed as endorsement of Phil Anselmo as a person.

RIP Dime.

not a big fan of thrash metal tbh, but this love IS a well known and good song so 🙄🙄. also whenever i listen to thrash metal it reminds me of this divine machinery movement

dun. dun dun dun dun. dun dun dun dun.

In a world full of Blink 182's, be a Pantera.

Rated 8/10

This is hard for me to rate. It's not something I really enjoy listening to, but I understand why people would. If I stuck to my true rating system, this would be three stars but I'm going to bump it up to four for the quality.

I was never a Pantera fan. It just seem like angry redneck music. That said, there's a few tracks on here that are incredible. The opener and This Love are surprisingly catchy. The entire album was better than I would have thought. I don't know that I have a place in my life where I I need this to soundtrack. I don't know that I want a place in my life where this is a fitting soundtrack. I like it for what it is though. I'm glad Pantera doesn't serve my needs. How lucky am I to not be this fucking angry anymore.

3.25 wouldn't skip it, but wouldn't go back to it.

Love the way the guitar melts here. Definitely fitting of the groove subgenre. This is really good. Walk would be a sick walkout song if I was a closer coming in to make a save. Favorites are A New Level, Walk, This Love, By Demons Be Driven, and Hollow.

This prolly hits hard if u are 50 yo white man.

Rated 8/10

Very aggressive, who would've thought with a Metal album. Been a while since I listened to it but I enjoyed it. First songs are especially great. Does get a bit tiresome at the end, as with other Metal albums, but it's not long enough for it to really be a hinderance.

Rated 4/10

Not my cuppa tea. Was not a bad listen though.

Well, it's not subtle.

I have a problem with this sort of thing. Distorted guitars, bass heavy mix, screaming, howling vocals. I really can't tell one from another. Not just one song from another. One band from another.

I was listening to this thinking, "This is really long album!" and when I checked, it had finished and Spotify had been other music for 20 minutes.

I'm sure there are people who can identify Groove Metal and Grindcore and Thrash Metal and Speed Metal, but I'm not one of them.

I'm not going to deny for a moment that the virtuosity on display is impressive, but to what end when the slow numbers all blend into each other and the fast numbers are SO fast they wouldn't be out of place on a Ravin' Rabbids soundtrack.

I can see the appeal if you're 17 and society sucks, man. But if you're a grown-up then it kind of seems a bit ... well.... vulgar.

Also, read the biography. What a great bunch of lads.

Would have been 5 stars if Cemetery Gates was on here.

This certainly is thrash metal.

Well, this is a first. This album was literally next in my queue of albums to listen to anyway. I was going to listen to this album today no matter what the generator produced. Thanks for saving me some time today, generator.

And I liked it, too, so that’s a bonus.
