Oh, more post-punk... This is starting to become my new "oh, more jazz...". I just don't really get it most of the time.
Bits of this reminded me of U2 - I think specifically the vocals - which, as I am at best indifferent to them, that wasn't helpful. I like the brass on Back Of Love, though I'm not sure I like much else. In general, it's all very jangly guitars and echoy vocals (it sounds like he's singing in a cave). Not even the handclaps on In Bluer Skies saved it.
Just not my kinda thing at all.

Whyyyyyyy is there yet again another album by this band on this list? They're fine, I'd even say I like them but they deserve to be on this list once, and once only and certainly not this album.
Rated 6/10
a good album to listen to on a sunday
Rated 4/10
The opening 2 tracks were pretty good, then it descends into a gloomy introspective melodrama.
I always want to like Echo & The Bunnymen more than I actually do.

So today, the third album by Echo & The Bunnymen from this list. After listening to the beginning, I thought it would be hard and exhausting and doubted whether I would really listen to it for over an hour. But actually, it wasn't a problem. I liked the album better than the previous ones. At times, the music reminded me of U2. I'd like to listen to it again. 4/5

Felt a bit generic. Some good songs, but not enough to justify a higher rating.
Rated 6/10
I've never been particularly hot on Echo and the Bunnymen, whose music I've always felt was decent, if a bit unspectacular and lacking in memorability from the snippets I've heard. I've had a slightly better time with this one, which errs more on the psychedelic and experimental side akin to The Associates. Although, where they seemed to throw everything at it, this felt a bit more measured and restrained. There still aren't many individual moments here which really leap out at me, but as a whole it felt a bit more energetic and purposeful. It's got potential to be a grower, although when I'd actively choose to put this on again is an issue that hangs in the balance.

Kinda enjoyed the music, but really didn't enjoy the singing.
Rated 4/10
It's music, it's competent, but I'm growing weary of Echo & the Bunnymen. I don't really care for this sanitised post-punk they produce and they sure as hell don't need 3 albums of it on the list. Realistically a 3-star album but it ain't getting that out of spite. The Cutter is a fine song, but everything here kind of becomes a forgettable mesh. Ocean Rain is a more interesting work by them IMO and that was all the Echo & the Bunnymen needed here.
Rated 6/10
This one does some really interesting things instrumentally where at some points it sounds almost like surf rock. This one was pretty good. Favorite songs were The Cutter, Back Of Love, Clay, and Porcupine.

Oddly enough I got the first Bunnymen album a week ago and the contrast in style and craft is very apparent, but is this following the evolution of post punk into new wave? Even Ian McCulloch no longer sounds like an outright Bono/Jim Kerr impersonator, but there are still moments.
Tidy album, "The Cutter" being the standout, a great opener.
Rated 8/10
Like a lost early U2 album where they had listened to some Joy Division. I had listened to Ocean Rain before, but never any of these songs. Really enjoyed it!
Rated 8/10
Same reaction as the other two Echo and the Bunnymen album I've heard - they're like a weirder, darker version of U2, and that's ok (especially The Back of Love - that could absolutely be a U2 song). Not sure they needed three albums on the 1001, but I enjoyed all of them. Definitely liked the addition of Shankar's raga violin on The Cutter and Heads Will Roll (I saw him play with Peter Gabriel, so I like that connection, too). Favorite tracks: The Cutter, My White Devil, Clay, Heads Will Roll, Higher Hell.
Rated 8/10
I prefer Heaven Up Here which I think overall has better songs and production. However, you can hear on this one that they are developing towards their masterpiece Ocean Rain. I'm always surprised when O read reviews saying they are melancholic or even whiny. I hear them as much too spaced out for that.

Pretty cool.

Another great album by them. This one is a bit more energetic and engaging. Maybe a tiny bit more punk on the bass line? Great album.

Hadn’t heard this one before. I think it might be their most consistently great record. Some really excellent tunes here.
Rated 4/10
In some ways I feel I owe some sort of loyalty to my generation. Early 80’s was when I was in my late teens/early 20s. And The Cutter and The Back Of Love were banger songs from my formative years which I liked as much as anyone else down the student nightclubs.
So surely I should rate this album?
I gave it a good go. First listen… it all seemed a bit waily. Just a bit monotonous. Give it another go! Headphones. Better? Not really. Still a bit…nothing. 3 listens. No I’m wasting my time. Believe what you hear. Dullness.

Kind of surprised to see another album from them on the list. This is the second for me and apparently there's one more. Seems a bit odd to have three albums from them, but that's the world we live in I guess.
I wasn't super familiar with Echo and the Bunnymen before I started this list. I really liked Crocodiles so I'm not upset at seeing this come up at all today. This record is still solid, but I think I like Crocodiles a bit better. Really, I don't feel like we needed more than one album from them on this list despite having liked both so far. I'd give this one a 3.25/5.

This is a good album. But I’ve gotten a lot of post punk albums and they all kind of run together.
