I dont care how influential anyone tells me this is, it blows.
Rated 4/10
This one perplexed me.
An excruciatingly horny album in many ways, but Alex's over the top theatrical singing actually elevated songs like Gang Bang a bit. Kinda felt like I was listening to an unused alternate soundtrack to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Many other songs were just ok. "Giddy Up A Ding Dong" can giddyup a go fuck off.
2.6/5 - .2 out of principle and because this album is unessential= 2.4/5 -> 2/5

A hybrid of sleazy glam and equally sleazy prog with a sprinkling of sleazy cabaret. I quite enjoyed the glam bits, while also thinking I might need a shower afterwards.
Rated 8/10
Felt a bit different and fun. Not too long. I'd listen again.
Rated 6/10
Has the air of a West End musical score being performed in a sweaty Glasgow glam-rock club.
It's theatrical, rocky and entertaining and sounds like it belongs to the same cultural moment as Rocky Horror.

I listened to this one, but there was a lot going on so I didn't really LISTEN if you know what I mean. What I heard was interesting but didn't make me stop and take notice... so 2.

The lyrics are quite exquisite, like I actually can smell them. Unfortunately the smell was shit. And when it comes to the instrumentals, they were all nothing special, and the voice was not that good either.

Starts off strong but unfortunately I kinda lost it towards the end. 6/10

Rated 4/10
Alex Harvey goes dumb stupid, but admittedly rocks pretty hard at certain points.
I can't possibly conceive how this album belongs in the 1001 list, but if Robert Smith and Nick Cave somehow hold this guy in high regard I guess I can't argue with it.
Standouts: Swampsnake • Gang Bang • The Last Of The Teenage Idols

What the actual fuck
Rated 6/10
There’s some interesting and quite strange elements to Alex Harvey’s performance. I like it when singers see themselves as entertainers and want to do what they can to surprise. My favourite songs are the highly energetic and more reckless ones like Swampsnake. I’m less excited hearing him put surreal and subversive lyrics to more traditional and inoffensive music but it still adds to the admirable element of fun which is threaded throughout the album.
Perhaps not sensational but pretty entertaining.

Who signed this 36 year asshat?
Rated 4/10
not great but gets extra points for the title track and scotland forever
Rated 8/10
This is wild. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before! I can totally see how Nick Cave got his entire schtick from here. Really wish I could have seen them live.
Rated 6/10
I was preparing myself for something rough based on the global review scores here, but this was good. This definitely takes the subject matter to the extreme to the point of parody. The songs are fun and go interesting places the especially The Faith Healer and the three part The Last Of The Teenage Idols. A fun time overall. Favorites were Seampsnake, The Faith Healer, and Vambo Marble Eye

This is simply awesome idk what to say

Surprised with the amount of hate for this album.
I didn't look at the tracklist so when Gang Bang came on that was hilarious.
Rocky Horror Picture Show vibes at times and looks like this came out the same year as the play, so I think there has to be some sort of connection there.
3.5/5. Raising to 4.
