Not as good as I remembered it. A lot of just okay songs with the couple bangers that everyone knows.
Rated 2/10
I find it almost funny how people use things like violence and misogyny in rap music as an excuse to be racist when one of the most extreme cases of it is from a pasty ass white dude.
Rated 2/10
So less than 10 minutes in and this is already rife with misogyny, violence, homophobia, and every single stereotype that makes hip hop bad music. I mean who writes a song about drugging and raping a 15 year old? I honestly don't know how people listen to this and connect with it at all, much less praise it as one of the best albums ever. Yes, he can rhyme things with other things, that's not genius. This is a 13 year old kid who found out he can swear and say shocking things and get famous for it.
I was really hoping that I'd find a hip hop album that I genuinely liked while doing this project, and this one was one that I had heard way back in the day and kind of hoped I would like it now. No dice. This is awful and aged worse than milk in a plastic cup placed in the sun. If this album was released now, it would be so widely panned we'd never hear from Eminem again. Well, that might not be true, he'd probably be playing with Kid Rock at GOP events.
I'm 600+ albums in and this is the first one I had to turn off (that I remember) before it was over. 0/5 and please god let's strike this from the record of Humanity's creative output.
Rated 8/10
Still gets tiring, but the highlights are amazing
Rated 10/10
I was only going to give it 4, but I was really impressed by the variety and depth of the homophobia and misogyny. Connoisseur level of cartoonish hate.
Rated 4/10
Obviously I see why this was included, but I didn't like Eminem then, when I was squarely in his target demographic of preteens to teens (apart from a few of his hits), so never expected to like him as an adult. Time hasn't changed that (although I listen to much more hip hop now in general), and his edge lord humour hasn't aged well at all. The first time I listened, I stopped at 97 Bonnie & Clyde. Horrific stuff, no idea what he was thinking there. I tried again and ended up skipping through a lot of the songs. The only ones I found worth listening to were My Name Is and Rock Bottom. I really did try to empathise with him as someone who obviously had a difficult life, but it's hard to when he specifically set out to make himself unlikeable. He has got undeniable talent, I just can't stand most of his lyrics.

En su momento me gustaba algo más, pero hoy en día me aburre bastante. No es lo peor de la lista que hay de él. Este dico al menos tien "My name is" y la pareja de "Just don't give a fuck" y "Still don't give a fuck". Sería un 2,5 aprobado.
Rated 4/10
Mostly misogynistic songs with "My Name is" as the outlier. I expected more
Rated 4/10
Cool beats, but I don't really dig the overly macho kind of lyrics .. Too long for my taste.
Rated 6/10
A pretty good album. Some funny bits, just a bit long for the content. 3/5
Rated 8/10
It's a tough one to rate. Musically, every song features masterful rhymes and a great flow, but most of the songs have very basic beats which makes songs like My Name Is stand out even more.
I think I'd give it a 4 without hesitation if it weren't for the lyrical content. You could argue a lot of it is tongue in cheek and/or self deprecating, but it's hard to listen to songs like '97 Bonnie & Clyde, where he takes his daughter with him to dispose of her mother's body, and not hear the truth behind the words. I heard this album for the first time around the age of 11. The album has not influenced me to commit any crimes so far, but I can't speak for more impressionable kids who relate more to the themes.
It's also an hour long and contains 4 skits, which I'm almost never a fan of, but surprisingly I never found myself getting bored of it.
Sooo... 3.75?
Rated 4/10
It was fine … but not my favourite Eminem
Rated 6/10
Eminem is one of my favourite artists, and this record is his beginning, and it's very good. But I can say that because of some of the lyrics it didn't age well at all. I am waiting for the Marshall Mathers LP as that one is more mature and it has way better songs. Anyway, even though this is worse than I remembered, I still liked a big part of it. In the end, this is the start of a living legend.
Rated 6/10
I used to be a big fan of Eminem, but yeah this one didn’t age well.
Rated 8/10
Woah... I know this is a character but like this didn't age well for most. If we take a moment to distance ourselves from the subject matter, I admire Eminem's mastery of wordplay and tone. He nails the acting for Slim Shady between playful and confrontational. If we just had the instrumentals, I'd instantly be hooked on the beats. Definitely could have been "slimmed" though.
Rated 4/10
So it comes with a Public Service Announcement at the beginning saying Children Should Not Listen and Don't Try This at Home and proceeds to 90 minutes of songs that are so extreme in their homophobia, misogyny, social dislocation and violence that toy wonder what exactly was the intention of it all.
Is it some sort of Randy Newman satirical character study? Is it meant to be taken seriously? (A lot did) Is it a jet black humour performance in the vein of The Naked Lunch?
Whatever it is, it's hardly the most mature album ever, and some of the songs sound like the demo versions of songs from a better album.
Another reviewer here said that it was like being trapped in a room with a 13 year old obnoxious brat and they're not wrong.
Rated 8/10
This is another record that I'm going to be a little biased towards because of nostalgia, but I have to say that it definitely still holds up musically for me. The production feels as fresh as the day it came out, with ridiculously catchy beats and super clean mixing. Obviously the absurdly edgy lyrics and subject matter seemed a lot cleverer when I was a lad, but even now, I can't help but crack a smile at the gleeful stupidity of tracks like As The World Turns and Brain Damage. Eminem himself compared this album to a trashy but fun horror movie, and I think that's probably the best way to appreciate it, as it most surely won't hold up if you attempt to take it too seriously.
Favourite tracks: Just Don't Give a Fuck, Brain Damage, As The World Turns
Rated 6/10
Not the worst but man did that feel really long for just being 59 minutes.
Standout track: My Name Is
Rated 4/10
I like some Eminem but this wasn't it
Rated 8/10
It doesn't matter that the topics are at best juvenile, and often much worse. The technical skills on display in both lyrics and presentation changed the genre.
