feels like a smooth 70s album ...
Rated 6/10
Funkier than you’d expect from a white British (and Portuguese) guy.
Rated 4/10
stivi vander za siromašne koji postane prenaporan nakon prve pjesme. dao bih možda i tri jer glazba načelno nije loša, al traje predugo; predzadnja pjesma posebno bezvezna i razvučena
Rated 8/10
Well! That's a first time I've heard a didgeridoo on an album here!
Prime cut funk, and Jay Kay has a delightful voice to listen to. Honestly enjoyed my time with it. Although I have to dock a point for cultural appropriation.

Even in the nineties Jamiroquai were an odd prospect, a skinny white man, usually in a stupidly oversized hat delivering soulful funk. Their music however exudes cool, regardless of whether there’s didgeridoos, strings or brass involved.
The first two tracks are classics that instantly transport me back into my teenage years.
Unfortunately the vibrancy lags over the duration of the full album and it becomes a bit repetitive.

I assume the reviews for this album are mostly middle aged British people saying "Fucks sake, Jamiroquai is on the list!" and pretty much everyone else saying, "Never heard this".
I would be surprised if, were a new version of the book to be released in 2025, this would make the cut now. It is decidedly uncool and I think time has not necessarily treated it particularly well, but that being said, I do actually like bits of this.
I liked We're Too Young To Die and Emergency on Planet Earth when I was 13, and I still do now. I had never heard the full album before today though, and can now safely say that Music of the Mind can get straight in the bin. It also became pretty samey throughout the record.
This feels like a 2.5 kinda album for me, but I think this needs rounding down rather than rounding up.

That was pretty funky. I gotta say, for an English white guy who is pulling directly from classic african american funk and created the group name based off a native american tribe, he's got some groove. Especially like the electronic elements. 3.5/5 - 4/5

Solid jams
Rated 8/10
Just excellent. Creative, fun, moving, different and familiar all at once.
Rated 4/10
Famous for a great music video (for a song not on this album) and for wearing a stupid hat, this has a retro disco funk sound updated with 90s electronica style. It's a fun enough album - the live horns, jazzy basslines and swirly organs on the instrumentals especially - but his voice is grating (like someone doing a Stevie Wonder impression).
Rated 6/10
Hard not to tune out mentally when listening to this one. I like funky music but this wasn't my jam. Kinda came across like a Stevie Wonder rip off. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.

I started out enjoying the funk of it all. Was less into the “acid jazz” (per Wikipedia) it veered off into towards the end. The messages in the lyrics were thoughtful but a bit clunky.
Rated 6/10
The fact that they didn't give me the album with his most famous song is just...
Well, you know what cheesy pun I'm attempting.

:( couldve been better if it was just stevie

Emergency On Planet Earth is an album that i enjoyed way more than i was expecting to. Considering the only Jamiroquai songs i have heard before this were Cosmic Girl, Automation and Canned Heat, I didn't really expect that they would be a funk/acid jazz band so i got confused when i saw the funk tag. The music on here is great and really brings me right back to all the funk albums from the 60s and 70s that i did with Jay Kay's voice really providing a more modern touch to the album. The last two tracks were also pretty nice diversions which didn't take away all too much from this album. This was certainly a really enjoyable funk album.
Best Song: Emergency on Planet Earth
Worst Song: Didgin' Out

The walking contradiction that is Jay Kay, absolutely cribbing on natives and black mans music despite being whiter than milk, and playing lyrical themes against corporate greed and pro environmentalism.... but then he made a shit ton of money and blew it on gas guzzling super cars.
Rated 8/10
This guy wore a comfy-looking hat and we thought he was so quirky in the 90s. Listening to it now, he sounds like a bit of budget Stevie Wonder, but I dig the mixing of genres. A fun album, 4*

This was super cool. I had heard of these guys but was not familiar with their work, this was fun to listen to.

Pretty good. Not really my thing.

I've known Jamiroquai for a long time. I thought some of their songs were pretty good. The band was quite popular on my favourite radio station for a while. Later I found the music too hectic, acid jazz from kindergarten children on speed. I quite liked the album, even if I didn't become a fan of it. I don't switch off when I hear it, but I don't look for it either. 3/5
