It was kind of a blues, kind of a country, kind of an alternative album. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite click with me.

Rated 4/10

One of the more obscure records on the list. To me anyway - turns out it’s Grammy Winning and 169th best selling album in America. Clearly I’ve been in the wrong coffee shops.

Or maybe I’ve been in the right coffee shops? Or maybe I’ve been in the wrong coffee shops and not noticed this. Or I’m too busy listening to other foreground music on my ear phones to pay attention to the background rumble of Ms Jones.

It’s competent unchallenging background music.

Rated 6/10

It's mellow and smooth, that I cannot deny. But it makes me feel like it's time for a nap rather than listening to an album.

Favorite track(s): Don't Know Why, Come Away With Me, I've Got to See You Again

Rated 4/10

Oh. Yeah, I really don't like music like this, at all. She has a lovely voice, the music is competent, but I just really don't like vocal-forward contemporary jazz-pop-whatever love music.

This whole album is like going to one of those high-end shopping malls in the 90s that had a piano and that's nice, it's fancy, there's music, but then someone starts singing and it's THIS, and you decide you really didn't need to buy a new jacket after all.

I genuinely hate this record, but I think it's me, not Norah, so I'm not going to disgrace her with the lowest rating.

Not my cup of tea and neither should it be yours. 2 stars.

Best song: Feelin the same way

Was this album better than yesterday’s album, The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground? No.

Helt greit. Veldig safe plate å ha i bakgrunnen om man driver en kafé

Rated 8/10

Sooooo relaxing, so nostalgic, and so peaceful. It’s nice to have some music you can just relax to.

Rated 6/10

Good album. Solid compositions and production. Nothing terribly exciting, but not every album needs to be a revolution. Sit and relax...

Rated 8/10

Smooth, relaxing.

Rated 4/10

This album is aggressively alright. Somehow manages to feel like a slog even at only 45 minutes. Each song by themselves is good, but all together, it's just exhausting.

Highlights are Don't Know Why (Which is the one I think I recognize) and I've Got to See You Again (With it's more interesting jazzy vibes).

But other than that, kinda a snoozefest.

Rated 8/10

Will admit I bought this when it came out. Norah Jones was EVERYWHERE for a while with this release.

She has clearly got a great voice and these songs sound lovely when you're in a chilled mood (or need to chill out).

Listening now, it's stood up, mainly because it's pretty timeless music.

Most unexpected lyric: “[…] die in ecstasy.”
Not too unexpected lyric: “[… ] feelin’ the same way all over again.”

The latter very aptly explains my emotions toward this collection of songs, because I would have wished for more of the former. Not dying, of course, but some more ecstasy would have been nice. While the album flows (occasionally) quite beautifully, an occasional upping of the BPM would have provided some much-needed variation. Regrettably, the record sometimes sounds like expensive session musicians making music for rich people to dine to. Yeah, I know this is unfair and maybe incorrect.

However, I will gladly acknowledge this: the minds involved knew how to write intriguing melodies, and Norah’s voice is incredible - incredibly smooth, with pitch that is just… wow. Oh, to have a voice like this.

Unfortunately, it's the steady mid-tempo mélange of jazz and soft rock/pop, country, and blues-y figures that doesn’t do much for me. Those marketing jerks would probably label "Come Away With Me" as “music like a warm blanket to wrap around you on a rainy autumn day.” Now, it’s incredibly cold in Europe these days, and I actually do want to hide under my sheets and call it a day - so that blanket-ness earns a bonus point today.

Rated 8/10

If you’re in the mood for sweet and mellow this is a great album.

Rated 6/10

Liked the songs I knew (don’t know why, come away with me, shoot the moon), didn’t love anything else. Easy listening.

Rated 6/10

Nice for listening to in coffee shop on the early 2000 but a little tame for my taste .

Great voice , nice playing on nice songs . Nice but nothing more

Rated 8/10

The backlash around this album says more about the early-2000s cultural moment than it does about the music itself. Yes, it became shorthand for Starbucks culture and tasteful background listening, but that framing misses how genuinely enjoyable the record is. Taken on its own terms, Come Away With Me is warm, melodic, and beautifully put together.

There’s an undeniable time-machine effect here. It immediately recalls the early 2000s, but it also avoids feeling dated in the way many albums from that era do. The songs are simple, but not careless. The arrangements are restrained, but thoughtful. Norah Jones’s voice is intimate without being precious, and the record understands exactly what kind of mood it wants to create.

Is it safe? Probably. But there’s a difference between being calculated and being confident in restraint. Blue Note may have positioned her perfectly for this debut, but that doesn’t diminish the quiet beauty of what’s here. Not every album needs to challenge the listener to earn its place. Sometimes it’s enough to sound this good and mean it.

A strong four stars. Comfortable, yes—but also sincere, well-crafted, and easy to return to.

solidno. lijepo i polagano. na trenutke me podsjeća na emi vajnhaus, posebice u pjesmi cold cold heart, koja mi je ujedno bila najbolja. al sve u svemu nije da padneš na guzicu

Rated 6/10

Very middle of the road and just fine. It’s alright enough to just kinda have on, but it’s also not very interesting. I made the mistake of listening to an Abbey Lincoln song halfway through to remind myself how other actual jazz singing is, and it made it nearly impossible to come back to Norah Jones. She just isn’t anywhere near the same level

Rated 4/10

Superduper heavy frontloaded album (1 banger).
The rest is nice.. Feels like something you would hear in a chill bar.
