I remember giving Antichrist Superstar a listen when it first came out—I was curious, even though it was far outside my usual tastes.

I gave it a fair shot, but honestly, I think it’s a terrible album. The music feels chaotic and abrasive, with constant shouting and little sense of structure or storytelling. It just doesn’t work for me. Admittedly, my perception of Marilyn Manson himself—given his well-documented controversies—also casts a shadow over the experience.

Favourite track: The Beautiful People is a solid song and easily the highlight.
Least favourite: Pretty much the rest of the album.
Album artwork: Dark and unsettling—not really my style.

I feel ashamed of myself for never listening to him sooner. So much controversy back in the day. This guy has talent. I also now have read that Trent Reznor was heavily involved in the production, which makes sense, I can hear that now. I can hear some hooks, the lyrics resonate still in current-day corporate hate-filled America. I know an album is special when it’s from a genre i know nothing about, and don’t really enjoy, but still it moves me in some way.

Will I want to sit and listen to the whole thing again? Probably not, unless I have a day of rage (ok, so maybe, F@*$ Trump). Is it a superlative example of its genre and of a concept album? I think so.

Look, regardless of what you think of Marilyn Manson as a person or his style of music, There is absolutely no denying that he truly makes some of the best music of his kind and Antichrist Superstar shows that off perfectly. This album has just about everything i love about industrial metal. Its dark, haunting, aggressive, heavy and has some good electronic elements which add so much to the music. It could also be really catchy when it wanted to (I'm looking at you Angel With The Scabbed Wings). The lyrics here are also incredibly good as well with some pretty deep lines throughout a lot of the songs. This album is an easy favorite for me.
Best Song: Angel With The Scabbed Wings
Worst Song: Mister Superstar

I would rather listen to Coldplay

Didn't like it in 1996, didn't like Marilyn Manson either... Still dont.

Rated 10/10

I can always get behind a concept album critiquing the fascism of the American conservative and christian right. Nearly 30 years old, and these messages are needed now more than ever. Who ever would have thought the words, "Well, Marilyn Manson tried to warn us" would be a thing?

Anyway, politics and social commentary aside, this album is dynamite. It's MUCH harder than I think I realized, without sacrificing melodies. The Trent Reznor influence is strong in this one, and it remains, I believe, the bands best work.

What a fitting album for Easter. Anyways, I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It sounds a lot harder to my ears than Nine Inch Nails without losing the edge. I liked a lot of the songs here, noisy industrial metal banger after banger. The album is perhaps a bit long, but my interest didn't really wane until the very end of the album. All in all a pleasant surprise from a guy who got a ton of flack all throughout his career.

Yuck. I can't stand Marilyn Manson. He's just starving for attention. Dude wishes he was Trent Reznor so bad, but doesn't have the talent to pull off what NIN did, so he has to resort to shock value and theatrics....and making everything so layered in fuzzy distortion that some people may not notice how shitty of an artist he really is. Fuck Marilyn Manson. Imagine what he smells like?!? My money is on stagnant piss and rotten potatoes. He looks like if a disease (like syphallis) became sentient and grew a body....

Favorite songs: The Beautiful People, Deformography, Tourniquet, Little Horn, The Reflecting God

Least favorite songs: Wormboy, Antichrist Superstar, Kinderfeld, Man That You Fear, Untitled

Just did not like this and feel kind of icky for having listened in the first place.

Rated 6/10

I like MM, but this album contains close to 2 good songs.. The rest is (well produced) fluff and it's waaaaaay too long...

Rated 2/10

Wish I could give this a zero.

Rated 6/10

Not really my thing, but ok to listen to. I could see the influence Trent Reznor had on this album, whether it was inspiration or production. 3/5

Is Marilyn Manson the ultimate edgelord? Jesus Christ this was bad. It’s like Nine Inch Nails without the talent or nuance. This is edgy to be edgy bullshit. I did not listen to the whole thing, I gave it a few songs and skipped through the rest. All the songs sound the same so I don’t think I missed anything important.

Rated 6/10

Pretty good.
Seems almost quaint how keen it is to shock. It's just distorted glam rock. I do like it, just wouldn't pick it out and put it on.

Rated 6/10

Started off really enjoying the album but was getting a bit tired towards the end.

Rated 4/10

Ok...not really a go-to anymore for me. Just to angry (and troubling). 2.5/5

Rated 6/10

I like this kind of music, but saying that the whole album is a must listen is a bit of a stretch.

Rated 4/10

I thought I might like this more. I was quite aware of 'Mechanical Animals' which has got a lot of great tracks on, but this one is messier and noisier, with an emphasis on messier. There's still elements that I like here. I like how some of the tracks flow together. I like the big fat guitars which crop up in places, and I like the clear Trent Reznor influence with the industrial background vibes.

The problem is that there's nowhere near enough standout tracks, particularly as there's 17 to choose from. It's a big messy mix that all bleeds together. And for something so noisy, you wouldn't expect it to be this boring. Really disappointing.

Rated 4/10

If I wanted to listen to Nine Inch Nails I'd just listen to Nine Inch Nails.
