3/5 - Not enough twisting of melons

Not a huge fan of this Madchester sound, though it is at least quite original and interesting.
Overall, this is in the range of 2,5 stars for me.
Some songs I enjoyed: "Performance" (probably my favourite), "Wrote For Luck", or "Lazytitis".
I think that, because of its distinctive sound, it deserves 3 stars.

Just ok, not something I’ll ever listen to again. 2/5

Fun, 80s vibe but not something I’d reach for.
Rated 8/10
Good listen. Very upbeat. Nice blend of synth and post-punk with some solid pop hooks in there to reel you in. This is something I think I'll enjoy even more with multiple listens. Surprised a bit at how tame it sounds for a band that is notorious for their drug-fueled exploits.

I'm getting bummed just listening to this. The discordant, warbling vocals are not my jam at all.
Rated 4/10
Knew the name of the band, the lead singer and the lad Baz that joins later? Anyway I was expecting something more dancey since they are so associated with ecstasy. 1.5/5. Raising to 2.
Rated 6/10
Had never heard of this album or this band. Was pleasantly surprised. Solid grooves and fun music. More like a 3.5/5, but I’m not rounding up
Rated 4/10
I'm bummed by this album (my guess it that I must be the 2386th to make this joke).
Rated 6/10
Better than I remember them being. Not life altering, but definitely more influential on my tastes and other bands than I would have thought. They are more than the one or two songs I remembered and pretty quality slice of music from that era and genre. 3.
Rated 6/10
Definitely a fun band. I don’t have much to say about it. You put it on, it sounds like a party, then it ends.
Rated 2/10
No thanks

This is a drawling, stoned mess but I have to say I kind of liked it. It's maybe like if Spacemen 3 were slightly less interesting? Don't think I'll listen to it again, but it was ok, glad I heard it.

This dude's work with The Gorillaz: 👍👍👍👍👍
This dude's work with Happy Mondays: 😡🩵🤢😥🖕
Rated 4/10
Decent album! The psychedelic and funk contributions give it a bit of an interesting edge, but I can't say it left much of an impression on me overall.
Standouts: Country Song • Mad Cyril • Lazyitis
Rated 6/10
Happy Mondays? Ha! One of my students told me that when they imagine my voice in their head I am saying "Happy Tuesday", which I said only ironically, so maybe that's what's happening here.
The album is pretty boring. A lot of lot of lot of repetition in the lyrics, too. I didn't like it, but I guess I didn't dislike it enough for a 3.
Rated 6/10
A lot of nostalgia for this as a relic of a place and time, but maybe better as a memory than something to listen to today.
Rated 4/10
There were a few interesting parts but they did not make a better whole
Rated 10/10
I think this record still sounds great. Ecstasy informed funky white boy psyche. Even though it kick started the shortly lived and mostly rubbish Baggy genre and the even less appetising 'indie dance' scene there isn't really anything else that sounds quite like it, including their own other records. Probably the Hannett effect.
Rated 4/10
I get why people call this a classic Madchester record, you can basically hear the late 80s rave culture in every track. It’s got that messy, funky, psychedelic vibe that definitely defined a specific moment in time.
But honestly? It just doesn’t do it for me. Without the nostalgia, it mostly sounds like a drug fueled mess with shaky vocals and annoying synths. It feels way more like a band just throwing random stuff at the wall than an actual album. If their later stuff is the peak, this just feels disjointed and pretty boring.
