Hmm... A blues revival album from 2010. Not sure what to make of this one. And, honestly, I don't think there's much blues cred here. It sounds more like the Rolling Stones-style "white blues" in terms of songwriting quality and lyrics. However, the Stones were far more versatile than these guys. Every song sounds nearly identical to the last, with the same beat, similar riffs, and similar lyrics. It's basically if you infused landfill indie with marginal blues-rock influences, which does make landfill indie more palatable but cannot carry it to greatness. This is an OK record, but it doesn't have the great songs or do anything particularly interesting. Granted, I don't think it's bad enough to warrant a 2, so a 3 it is.

Just generic garage rock that has already been hashed out for a decade. Not needed

2/9/26 - Listened during work. I like the Black Keys and I liked this album. It faded a bit towards the end but still solid and something I would listen to again.

Top song - Tighten Up

This album and El Camino went triple platinum on my iPod in elementary and middle school. Now that some time has passed I can see that it is kinda just “we have the White Stripes at home”, but that’s not a bad thing. The songs are still solid. Favorites were Everlasting Light, Tighten Up, Howlin’ For You, and Ten Cent Pistol.

Rated 4/10

While the majority of the music on this album isn't so bad, I hate the vocal effect that plagues every song, and cannot forgive the black keys for shitting out two of the worst car commercial songs of the the 21st century (Tighten Up & Howlin for You). 2/5

Sometimes it feels like they are just moving furniture around the room. On this song, the couch is over here and the chair is over here, and on the next song they've just switched places. It is a comfy couch though, maybe a little saggy in the middle.

I hated this album when it came out. One of the most interesting bands turned much more mainstream, and a lot of the interest faded.
Going back over it now it's a pleasant but not very challenging listen, but I like it a lot more than I did in 2010.

Tighten Up was on fifa therefore this is all fifa music. I like the music but I hate the vocals and lyrics. The way he sings makes everything sound like a beer/car commercial.

Rated 8/10

Not sure the hate on this site is warranted. Maybe derivative, but it's well done and fun to listen to.

I don’t dislike this album. I used to listen to it semi regularly. It is a bit samey and long in the end though. El Camino is the album I’d go back to now if I wanted to listen to them again.

Rated 4/10

Occasionally, I listen to the first 4 tracks from this album then put something else on.

Today, for the first time in years, I listened to all 15 tracks.

Next time, I’ll listen to the first 4 tracks from this album then put something else on.

Off to play Fifa 11 now.

A real "Meh" of an album. At the time, this was the album that made me check out on The Black Keys. And I checked out about two songs into this listen. A once-unique sound that they drove into the ground

Rated 6/10

I found this one pretty smooth and easy listening. Just put it on in the background!

Rated 4/10

It’s been a long time since I listened to this album … now I remember why. This is soulless, white boy blues. It’s a miss from an otherwise good band.
The musicianship is tight and the clean blues hooks mixed with rock bravado catch the ear, but the lyrics here are my trouble; in fact, they are laughably poor; a collection of simplistic rhymes - “My next girl will be nothing like my ex girl” - littered amongst a pointless dribble of ideas - Howlin’ for You has a first ‘verse’ about actors, the next one talking to a bird and the third one about baseball. I mean, Bob Dylan is rolling over in his soon-to-be grave.
I’d much rather listen to them lean into a full-on rock out, like on their next album (El Camino). I’ll flush this album.

Pozadinski zvuk.
