"Mother" is the ultimate pleb filter song as evidenced by the hilariously out-of-touch reviews all over this page

Rated 6/10

Second half is held up massively by ‘Every Breath You Take’. Rest is pretty good!

Also ‘Mother’ defender here, I won’t hear a word said against it.

This was weirder than I expected. The second half was what I expected, that’s the Police sound I’ve heard in passing. But the first half has some different stuff on it. I wish this ranking system was 1-10 because I gave Bowie’s Low a 3 yesterday and this I’m also giving a 3 but it’s closer to a two and a half, and Low is closer to 4 than 3 but wasn’t quite a 4 for me.

I like it. Interesting songs on here. And of course "Every Breath You Take"

Rated 10/10

The Police demonstrate how to go out on top with an ALMOST perfect album (looking at you, "Mother"). Seriously, pretty much all the songs range from really good to great. If I had to classify them: Really good: Walking in Your Footsteps, O My God (sounds like it belongs on Sting's 1st solo album, which I love - couldn't confirm, but Genius says Sting played the sax solo?? Impressive), Miss Gradenko, Tea in the Sahara. Great: Synchronicity I, Synchronicity II (used to play this in a band - lots of fun), King of Pain, Wrapped Around Your Finger. Stone Cold Classic: Every Breath You Take - it may be over-played, but it's an amazing song (and I guess technically one of the greatest songs ever made about stalking?). Super-easy 5.

Fuck The Police. Mostly fuck Sting. Not Sting the wrestler, though. He’s cool.

Rated 6/10

Absolute curveball of an album. You go in expecting some 'Roxannes' and 'Message In A Bottle's, but instead they keep hitting you with experimental cuts that don't always succeed in being super interesting. Sting randomly unhinges on 'Mother' which sounds straight out of Disc 2 of The Wall, except that without any narrative buildup, it's just kinda jumpscares you for no reason.
When 'Every Breath You Take' finally shows up it's a breath of fresh air, finally a familiar sound out of these guys.
idk, this was honestly a fairly enjoyable listen, but I AM disappointed that their deep cuts really don't hold up to the strength of their greatest hits.

Standouts: O My God • Every Breath You Take • Wrapped Around Your Finger

Rated 6/10

Overrated thats all i can think about. I heard one other good song on this one, but Every Breath is so much above everything else on the album it’s insane. Some songs just dont belong on it AT ALL. mid 3

Rated 6/10

Lots of different elements blended together that make this album decent, but not excel in any way.

Rated 6/10

More weird and interesting and experimental than I anticipated. Still not for me though. Veers too much on the cheesy side of overproduced 80s pomposity. I think mainly due to Sting's vocals. Too smooth and confident.

Rated 8/10

daleko najslabiji album grupe. neke bezveznije stvari, sve više popasto, iako više nego slušljiv, dobar. tekstovi više krindž nego prije. najdraže: mother, king of pain, wrapped around your finger

Rated 10/10

Brilliant album. Wasn’t expecting much when it generated but really enjoyed this one.

Rated 8/10

I really enjoyed this. Very consistent. Lots of great songs. Production is real nice. A pleasant surprise.

Rated 8/10

Good Album. I like Stings Voice. I hope he never tries to take over Arrakis.

My much older brother absolutely loved The Police, so heard a lot of this growing up. It's definitely good, with that early-80s post-pink, hint of reggae, smattering of electronica vibe. But somehow it also (still) feels like it's trying to hard. Aside from the title tracks, it's strangely lacking in heart - probably because they hated being anywhere near each other by this point ("can we just get this finished now please")

Rated 4/10

I liked a couple of songs … the rest range from forgettable to terrible (Mother … I’m looking at you 👀)

Rated 6/10

Wait, The Police is Sting? Why did I think the Police is Phil Collins?? Do I just constantly mix up Genesis and The Police??
[pause for me to look at my previous Police album review] Turns out: Yes. Maybe because Police and Phil both start with 'P'. They should be called Stinglice. I'll try to remember that in case they have a 3rd album on here. This album started unimpressively, but got better in the second half. It's like a... 3.25 (probably good there's only 5 star-options, I'd go nuts with more).

Highlights: 'Synchronicity II', 'Every Breath You Take' (definitely overplayed but still pretty good), 'King of Pain' (good emo character song for Me)

Lowlights: 'Mother', both musically and lyrically

Rated 6/10

This one has a lot of nostalgia for me, since The Police are one of my Dad's favourite bands, but it's not their best. There's a run of great songs starting with Synchronicity II, but up until then it's not great. Walking in Your Footsteps may have been considered profound at the time, but now it just seems trite and childish. Mother is something else altogether!

Rated 6/10

I was rather excited when I saw I will listen to this album. After listening, it was both better and worse than I thoguht it would be. It was a good album, had some great songs, also some not as good, goofy ones, but overall it didn't feel like this great full artistic statement, and more like a lump of songs - enjoyable, well-written songs but my point is still there.

Rated 6/10

What a weird album. Of course this has to be on this everyone had it and there's so many singles. But so weird. And I can't quite figure out why it feels weird. The drummer plays the same driving beat throughout the album and it's turned wayyyy up. The guitarist is stuck in the early 80's which I guess is sort of ahead of its time? And then there's the rest... I can only imagine how much weirder this would be if those parts weren't there? Lyrics are insane and the intros to some of these songs are almost avant garde jazz? I don't know. It's unsettling.
