So this is the infamous Morrissey I keep hearing about huh? This was a good fuckin album. An easy 4-star to give.

Rated 6/10

Some of these songs aged like a brick to the face, just like Morrissey. That being said, he's still a great singer.

Rated 4/10

You just have to roll your eyes.

Rated 6/10

A few good tracks but nothing that will live long in the memory

Rated 2/10

This is from 2004, and I said it all with this. Also, there is no way I will ever love something from this guy.

Rated 4/10

So I feel very strongly that what made The Smiths as good as they were was the music, not the vocals, and this record reinforces that opinion. Plus he's turned out to be kind of politically terrible, which I can't help but be influenced by. So yeah, obviously not a big fan here.

However, despite all the negativity in the previous paragraph, this really wasn't as irritating as I feared it might be. So, 2/5.

Rated 8/10

I like Morrissey's lyrics even if I don't agree with them all (but do some!). At least he has something to say and you can hear it clearly.
But also the music is good too. I'm surprised I liked this so much.

Rated 6/10

As an American political independent, I'm as critical of Americans as the next guy, but that first track was a pretty shallow and juvenile attempt, and the next one starting right into criticism of the English was just as bad. Also, I'm pretty critical of organized religion, and I felt the same way about the Jesus song. So, three stinkers right off the bat.

Things picked up after those and got back to a more Smiths-like (but a little more grown up) Morrissey, which I like

Didn't click with me much though it's cool that Morrisey went with a much grittier sound.

Lots of lyrics complaining about people rightfully calling him out, yawn.

Rated 2/10

Absolute trash

Rated 4/10

The Smiths but without all the good bits.
Like a Christmas dinner but it’s only sprouts.

Rated 4/10

I just didn't really like this album much. It's like Morrissey was making a band impersonation of one of his own albums. He's always been pretentious, but this album has even more of that and on repeat.

Rated 8/10

Morrissey may be a difficult person, to put it at least a bit euphemistically. But he has a great voice and makes great music. You can hear that on this album. And although I liked it, I probably won't listen to it again anytime soon. Morrissey isn't really my cup of tea. 4/5

Rated 6/10

In this album, Morrissey assures us that he was a "good and nice kid" who is only racist because he is English. But don't worry: he has forgiven Jesus for making him like this. Also he wants to kiss you.

Rated 10/10

You Are The Quarry is the album that began my love affair with the great man himself, Morrissey. When it came out, I played it endlessly and went to around eight shows on the tour. Listening again twenty years later, it still sounds fantastic.

Lyrically, this album is superb — classic Morrissey wit, melancholy, and sharp observation. The music holds up brilliantly too, full of swagger and melody. Tracks like I Have Forgiven Jesus, First of the Gang to Die, and Irish Blood, English Heart remain standout moments, but honestly, every song here is a belter. This is an easy 5/5 for me.

Favourite track: Irish Blood, English Heart and First of the Gang to Die
Least favourite track: Every song deserves its place
Album artwork: One of Morrissey’s simpler covers, but still iconic

Just another ex-1001 album!™

I wasn't in the mood for another Morrissey album, I couldn't be arsed with the knobheadery. But was then later surprised how much this album resonated with me.

Rated 2/10

blurgh. Rating this with 1 star is 1 star too many.
