Rated 6/10

A decent album by an all female punk rock band. However it doesn't provide as much of a kick as other bands like blondie or the pretenders do.

Rated 10/10

A nearly perfect 80’s album, and I wasn’t aware this was their debut!

Rated 8/10

Pre Listen:
The album cover intimidates me. I feel like I shouldn't be here. Never heard of this group, no expectations, etc.

Notable Tracks:
Our Lips Are Sealed - Ohhhh shit I do know this group. This is a classic. Excited to hear what's in store from here.
Lust to Love - My favorite track, I like the lyrics a lot. Catchy too.
We Got The Beat - Another classic. Got stuck in my head for a while even after I finished the album.
Automatic - Maybe the weakest song on the album? It's very different from the rest, but still I enjoyed it.

Post Listen:
I enjoyed this album more than I could've anticipated. It's classic bubble-gum Pop, mixed with a bit of what I think is Surf-Rock.

I really love the lead singer, her voice is a great blend of joyful peppiness and softer harmonies with the other vocalists. The guitar is incredibly clean, and the bass compliments every song very nicely. The drums too are very solid, keeping the beat. I'll be adding a few songs to my playlist, really blew my expectations away. I have no criticisms, really just a phenomenally well put-together album.

They absolutely got the beat. 5/5

EDIT - Came back after re-listening to the album. I think my initial score could be described as a "Sugar High" with just how bubble-gum their sound is. On subsequent listens, it wasn't quite as sweet as I remembered it. I still love it, I just don't think it's perfect-score worthy. Changed to 4/5.

An all-female band! I've probably said this before but this kind of new-wave/punk is so lively and playful. The tracks sound similar to each other, but it isn't a bad thing here. They sound like the B-52's but more poppy and less kitschy (3.5-4).

Rated 6/10

Nothing too crazy, just a good album to rock out to.

Skidmarks On My Heart is an excellent song title.

Solid!

Standouts: Our Lips Are Sealed • This Town • Skidmarks On My Heart

Rated 8/10

I was surprised by how good this entire album is. I’ve only heard We Got the Beat before but every song is basically just as good

Rated 8/10

This is a great album. I wouldn't mind if it was longer. This band is really interesting and I want to listen to more of them.

Rated 6/10

It's aight but not particularly exciting

Rated 6/10

Favorite track(s): How Much More, Lust to Love

Rated 4/10

not a fan of this kind of music

Rated 6/10

I've never heard of these before, or any of their hits. I don't think they were anywhere near as big in the UK as in the US.

There's some nice songs in here, but it's all very light and fluffy and forgettable though. It starts to feel quite samey by the end of it and I did find myself getting a bit bored, which isn't great at just 35 minutes.

It's not wowing me, but it's also pretty accessible and easy listening.

A thoroughly 3/5 album.

Rated 4/10

Well... these are songs?

Rated 6/10

Good pop-rock album. Clearly worth a listen. Energetic, enjoyable. I particularly liked "Automatic" (probably my favourite), "Our Lips are Sealed", "This Town", "We Got the Beat", or "Fading Fast". It's in the range between 3 and 4 stars.

Rated 6/10

No tengo mucho que decir. Me gustaron casi todas las canciones. Aunque no es mi generación Disney, no puedo evitar pensar en la versión de las hermanas Duff con Our Lips Are Sealed.

Rated 8/10

No idea this existed and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.

Rated 8/10

Waiiiiit… you mean Alvvays are a cover band?

Rated 6/10

Don’t know if this is a UK vs US thing, but the Go Gos just never really caught on over here.

I know Our Lips Are Sealed, but it’s the Fun Boy Three version that I heard first and for me it’s way better than the Go Gos shiny pop version.

The rest of the album just washed over me. Bit samey tbh. Not bad, but not entirely sure what all the fuss is about.

3.

I really liked this album. The cover is super awesome. As soon as I saw it was new wave I knew that I would probably like it. I liked every song in it. The songs were very fun and unique. I think my favorite song was "You can't walk in your sleep (if you can't sleep)"

Rated 6/10

I'm a man. I love women. I strongly believe that if they were in charge we'd be so much better off.

I can't say this album is objectively great. Very enjoyable mix of punk tinged pop and you can feel the empowered vibes. We Got the Beat is an all time classic but the rest of the album (which I first heard at maybe 8 years old) was very listenable but no real standouts.

I mistakenly believed that Susanna Hoffs was part of this lineup. I always found her impossibly mesmerizing so was a little disappointed that I got my 80s girl band wires crossed.
