This was a fun irish-sounding punk album. I'd listen to this again. 3/5

a fun listen absolutely. Only a strong 3 just because i don't think I'll listen to this again in its entirety, but still worth listening to this one.

I feel like I shouldn't dig this as much as I do. Excited to keep returning to and gaining an appreciation for this.

Started off great and got better with each song

For this review, I will not factor in the bonus tracks included with the expanded edition.

I already heard the other Pogues album on this list, If I Should Fall from Grace with God. Now here's the prior album, Rum Sodomy & the Lash, and it's yet another fun Celtic punk romp.

I enjoyed Rum Sodomy & the Lash slightly more than If I Should Fall From Grace with God as the former is not as long, and there wasn't an odd piece like "Worms" was. But at the end of the day, it is a neat mixture of traditional Irish songs and original tracks with their brand of rollicking guitar-driven madness, especially for cuts like "Wild Cats of Kilkenny" and "Sally MacLennane". If that sounds up your alley, then by all means check this album out.

The most Irish any Englishmen (and one Nigerian woman) have ever sounded! A great collection, with well chosen covers and engaging originals

What a great album. The mix of Celtic and punk really works and I want to listen to this album in a pub with a pint.

It’s so Irish

Fun album to listen. Really dug the cozy pub atmosphere this album brings.

Good Celtic punk

Rated 6/10

En tiedä mikä tässä oli punkkia mut folk on kiinnostellut viime aikoina ja sen myötä tämäkin kolmosen ansaitsee.

Rated 4/10

I understand the idea of picking albums outside of dominant cultures, and this isn't terrible, but how is this different from any other half drunk "irish" band on any stage in the world right now? yeah there's a bit of punk ideas thrown in there, but I just don't see it.

Rated 4/10

My oh my that was dull. If I wanted to listen to an elevated version of that style I'd listen to "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Really no peaks and a few troughs throughout the runtime. 2.4/5 -> 2/5.

Too much exposure to Irish-American nonsense has ruined the possibility of ever enjoying this actually pretty decent album of Irish folk music (reels, waltzes, jigs, ballads, heavy use of accordian, penny whistle, mandolin, and basic snare drum kits) with modern lyrics and a sped up punk approach.

I’m at a 5.

I really didn’t expect to enjoy that as much as I did, but talk about just hitting a vibe I never knew I really wanted to hit upon until now. I’ve never heard of “Celtic rock” as a genre, but like… yeah, this makes sense. Honestly, I’m still kinda just stunned.

I think the instrumentation here is super fun, I think the storytelling in the lyricism is fabulous (especially on the final track), and the vocals are pretty good across the board. The only real knock I could even have on this album is that the volume levels gradually go down as the album goes on, which certainly doesn’t feel intentional.

There are some lulls here and there, but ultimately, I just found myself captivated by what felt like such a lively world. There’s a genuine feeling that all of this could have (and probably did) happen, and it’s reflected in just about every aspect of the album. I thought it was really, really cool, and easily deserving of the 5. Just a super cool listen.

Eerder kregen wel al If I Should Fall From Grace With God.

If I Should Fall From Grace With God.
