Weirdly... awesome! Comparing this to his later opus would probably place this at an unfavorable position, but as a standalone compilation, this really bops.

Really effortless to listen, with a great easy quality to it. Everyone is on top of their game, and they really bring out the cool in it. The only bad thing is that nothing stands out, but the plus side is that everything is good.

Nice! Don't feel I have much more to contribute x

Day 67 (So glad this meme died)

This sounds EXACTLY like the type of shit I'd be hearing in Tom & Jerry back in the day. Not complaining.

Fav track: Deception

It is a great compilation of many of the early works by Miles Davis. It is a magnificient jazz record, which lays the groundwork for scenes such as post-bebop. However, many of Miles' albums feel more monumental than this, such as the other albums included in this list and other glaring omissions such as 'Sketches of Spain'. I respect the glimpse that it provides to the early-era Miles Davis but it does not feel as essential to be included.

This is actually a real nice time. I much prefer this kind of chill jazz, where you can just gently appreciate it. My Miles Davis rankings have been all over the place, so I was glad this was one of the better ones.

3.5 rounded down.

First listen. This is so close to “Kind of Blue” but I just love that album so much more.

Rated 6/10

"Cool" indeed, but it's hard to come back to this once you've heard Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew. This is like Pablo Honey.

dosta dobro, baš mi se dopalo, želim još slušat. petstoti album :O

I wasn't a fan of the other Miles Davis album I've heard - but this one was good!

4 ⭐️

Rated 10/10

I almost feel inclined to give it a four because I know Miles Davis can go much harder, but at the same time, it's so pleasant to listen that if it had anyone else's name on it, I'd give it a five.

Really nice record! 3+

miles davis before he was miles davis i guess.

In a Silent Way by Miles Davis is probably my favourite album that I've discovered so far through the generator. I didn't fall for this quite as hard (at least on first listen), but it did confirm that I might well be a Miles Davis fan. Who knew? Not me.

I’m going to give this a review… because, while I was listening to it, I wasn’t having one of my best days! And this is something you really need to listen to in a quiet, relaxed setting—probably with a glass of whiskey or a good red wine!

Hey, this might be a huge cliché, but I challenge anyone to listen to this without picturing a very Hollywood-esque scene—like Philip Marlowe, a smoke-filled bar, and a good bourbon thrown in! Come on, I challenge anyone… and I’m not American, nor do I want to be, mind you :-)

Liker alle platene jeg har hørt av Miles Davis så langt. Viber med denne også, men syns den høres ut som mye annen jazz. Kanskje fordi Miles Davis var pasient zero for alt som høres slik ut?

Rated 6/10

I mean, yeah. It's pretty standard jazz. I've never heard anything by Miles Davis I actively disliked, and that's no exception here. But I'm surprised that this is one of the four on the list. I don't feel it's nearly as noteworthy as the other three (In A Silent Way, Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew) and I'd rather have it swapped out with something like...I dunno, Get Up With It? Or maybe that Agharta live album? That'd be nice.

Rated 10/10

50s jazz and Miles Davis are two of my favorites. Easy 5 stars.

What a monument of a record. Nearly every song is packed with subtle, understated harmonic, formal, and timbral experiments. It set the pace in jazz music for the next 10 years, until Miles started another revolution with Kind of Blue. And it helped define "cool," which is such a ubiquitous concept now in the Anglophone world it's almost difficult to imagine a time before it existed.

This is the ACTUAL oldest album on the list, considering some of these tracks were released as 10" 78 rpm records as early as 1949, which is pretty crazy because it means these songs were recorded before the "album era."
