Enjoyed a few songs but can't remember anything else about it. I guess that sums it up đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž

I usually think of the Band as a singles band. Their bigger hits are their best songs and the deeper cuts aren’t worth it. Their self titled album at least is very much not that. The whole thing is good and there isn’t a single bad song

Rated 6/10

Not much that special but I didn’t find it bad or boring. 6/10

Thought this was a bit better than the other The Band album on the list, but not to enough of an extent that I'd revisit. One of the top reviews describes this as music for old people to day-drink to in a park, which is a fair assessment to my ears.

Pre Listen:
I only know of The Band from Jojo's, they got a Stand named after em in Part 4. That's it.

Notable Tracks:

Post Listen:
I listened to this album while driving through the countryside, and it's the strangest thing. I think the album was intended to be listened as such, and yet I can't recall a single song standing out to me. It wasn't bad per say, but it was painfully boring. I'd peg this sort of music as Biker Rock.

Towards the last 3 or 4 songs I was more than ready for it to be over. Nothing offensive, but nothing good. I had no favorite track, no least favorite track, nothing.

The band's music is about as generic as it's name. 2/5.

5 star for me. All talented guys and went totally against the grain. Every song is incredible.

It’s crazy watching how my taste has evolved throughout this whole process and how my opinions can change. I went back and listened to Music From Big Pink again. What the fuck was I smoking when I wrote the review for it? Banger after banger after banger, and you know what? They topped it here. I listened to this four times today. They weren’t in a row because I stopped after two to listen to the four hour deluxe edition of The Last Waltz. The essence of America can only be understood by Canadians.

Long loved Band and feel, alongside Stagefright, this is my favourite album of theirs. From the jollity, and fabulous lyrics of Up on Cripple Creek to the dark and deep King Harvest has Surely Come it’s a classic through and through.

Does this list really need 2 albums by The Band? I just got them yesterday too so I'm feeling a little biased against them. Is this album better or worse than Music From Big Pink? Who can say? It all sounds the same to me. Another low 3 star. Competent, but not for me.

Rated 8/10

The Band has 2 albums on this list and it's a crazy coincidence I got both of them in the span of several days. Now onto review - this sounds just as solid as their debut. "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" seems to be a real highlight here, a great song. But we will see, probably between 3 or 4 stars again.

Rated 4/10

It sounds like music to a sitcom.

This is the good stuff.

Rated 10/10

This is one of those records that I could probably sing most of without listening to it beforehand. I never had a copy, but everybody else did. I'm not a big Americana person in general, but there are a lot of toe-tapping songs with engaging lyrics on here.

Much of this is just fun; good songs for sitting on the porch and drinking beer on a hot summer night. But "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "King Harvest" stand out: both are stirring songs. "Dixie" always impressed they Yankee in me that it could make me sympathetic for somebody from the other side. And "King Harvest" is beautiful, with its evocative chorus talking about the sound of wind rippling across a flooded rice field.

Rated 8/10

Favorite track(s): Across the Great Divide, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up on Cripple Creek, Look Out Cleveland, King Harvest (Has Surely Come)

Rated 4/10

I only had one rock station in town when I was a kid. I listened to Cripple Creek way too many times waiting for them to play new rock songs.

Rated 4/10

Rated 4/10

I webt into this expecting to like it, but the bocals were a huge issue for me. On
‘the night they drove old dixie down’ they sound like Kermit the frog has taken the mic.
Generally it’s all a bit meh and the same tempo.
‘Look out Cleveland’ at least injects a bit of life into proceedings, but doesn’t really deliver in terms of quality. overall just a bit uninspiring.

Rated 6/10

I have very little to say about this. I enjoyed it as background music and for some weird reason it reminded me of the theme tune to Roseanne.

Should be a 2.5, will get:
