WarU2

Rated 10/10

Never really took the time to listen to any U2 albums even though I’ve always quite liked a few of their bigger hits.

So I wasn’t sure what to expect with this album. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find myself enjoying the album as much as I did. I think I found something listenable in every song on the album which is quite rare. This really is a great album. I still think later U2 isn’t great but maybe there’s something more I should start exploring in the early albums after this.

I’m a big REM fan but probably underplayed this one back in the day. Not quite sure why as it’s clearly a belter of an album with some big songs on it. Even outside the big hits there are a lot of strong songs. Nightswimming is a beautiful song and one of my favourites but also love Ignoreland and Try not to Breathe. Clearly a great album.

The Cure have been growing on me through more exposure to them via this list.

Those felt different from the last offering we had and does feel like a band still finding their feet and building towards something. But by the third or fourth listen it had really grown on me and I’m really enjoying discovering more of The Cure.

Synth pop raises an element or trepedatiousness in me however it rated reasonably well on the toe-tapping scale. I would quite possibly listen to a couple of these again but potentially not all in on go.

It’s probably about 2.5 stars but as it’s the season of goodwill, and I haven’t been to chvrch for a while, I’m going to round it up.

Wowzers, what a fantastic album. Another one where I questioned why I hadn’t listened to it before. It was a great listen all the way through with the songs connecting well. By the second or third listen I was engaged with it. I also noticed each song had its own video and after seeing these out it added another level of imagery wishing only added to the overall album experience.

This one will be firmly on my playlist from now on.

It started better than it finished. A couple of nice tracks that showed promise but overall probably not something I’d seek out again.

I was 7 years old in 1982 and the 7 year old me wouldn’t have liked this. It’s no Adam and the Ants!

However as a 50 year old I can now appreciate this much more and really quite liked this.

Just a shame they’re from Crawley!

Never really listened to this album as I’d not been as keen on GD post Dookie as that album was so good it was kind of hard for them to live up to that I guess. I’d always believed that no other GD album could possibly be as good as Dookie.

How wrong I was!

I was aware of the singles on this one but hadn’t realised how well constructed the whole album was as an overall entity. A lot of the album tracks are excellent and the more I listened the better they got. Put all the songs together and it creates an excellent album. Dookie is still my favourite GD album but this is now a very, very close second. Loved it.

The perfect musical accompaniment to my drive into work this morning. Ok so I may have tailgated and brake checked every vehicle and ran 12 red lights whilst flipping the bird to every driver I saw. But it was a lovely journey.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a VM album before and it was kind of what I was expecting.

I get so annoyed with this project when it offers up something like this. I just don’t understand what it’s doing here as I can think of plenty of better albums that haven’t made it. This one sees to have fallen into the general disappointment that seems to be music made by bands post-1990s.

So it’s a mystery. As there isn’t really anything redeeming here. The lyrics, the arrangements, the sound, the giving a shit about trying to make a decent album. It’s just….lacking. Everything.
