ImagineJohn Lennon

Rated 4/10

I'm not a huge Beatles guy though I certainly was was exposed to them. Johns writing here is fine but I never cared for his voice alone as much? It's sort of like Simon and Garfunkel; both are okay singers but put them together and it's kind of magic.

I feel like Elbow is what Radiohead fans get out of Radiohead. I don't enjoy Radiohead broadly. I do, apparently, enjoy Elbow quite a lot. A couple of the songs felt like pieces from a weak musical but usually they were both musically and lyrically engaging. The vocals were strong as well. I'll be giving this another listen.

I'm not really an ambient guy when it comes to selecting music to listen to. That was still a great album for most of my work day. It did feel a little punishing to see an album this long right after Soft Boys yesterday at 2 hrs and 27 minutes and then here comes LTJ at over 3 hours. Being forthright, I actually enjoyed it more as I went along.

Great writing and the music was often more complex than one might expect from what felt like a punky band from that time. Downgrade for eating 2.5 hours of my day.

I always felt on casual listening that arcade fire was simply a Springsteen adjacent work with less effort. That's in there but also a pretty great set of lyrics. I can't say I enthusiastically listened but it got my attention despite my initial bias.

Weird brit techno babble. Fortunately, I had to clean the whole house so this helped a lot somehow. Ordinarily not my thing...but everything in its course I suppose?

AqualungJethro Tull

Rated 8/10

I've heard this a few times over the years passively. Few people handle lyrics like Jethro Tull. I imagine like Rush that's something you like or not. I personally enjoy their lyricism and vocals. I don't mind a weird bag of early folk prog nonsense. I liked it.

Pretty fun listen. I'm familiar with the hits but this was a great album to get ready for and drive to work to this morning. Quite motivating. Some of it was a little samey dad-rock but overall a decent listen.

The BendsRadiohead

Rated 6/10

I get that Radiohead are a generational band. They're brilliant. I don't really love them. I really like individual songs. This album contains several of those. It's a good album for me and a great album for others.

ManassasManassas

Rated 4/10

Not the best technical recording and I think the album suffered a bit from feeling sort of flat. The instrumentation is clearly great and the gang harmony is intricate but it gets lost in the squash a touch. There are some solid lyrics in here but maybe it just isn't my speed?

There are a few U2 songs that I like. None of them can be found here. These aren't terrible but, to come from such a legendary band, they're fairly lame in terms of construction and lyricism.

21Adele

Rated 6/10

I don't mind Adele's hits thought they are a bit overplayed. That said, the remainder of the songs I hadn't heard were actually more to my liking. Not a bad album on the whole.
