RisquéChic

Rated 4/10

Not as engaging as their last album I reviewed. This one felt like a bit of a drone.

I personally love this album and quite like the band. Grew up listening to it and, somehow, it still feels pretty fresh in my ear after I over 30 years of listening. Not that it sounds new. Merely that it did not stale over time. I have nothing but joy of varying levels for every track.

One of the greatest albums of all time. Not one of my personal favorites, but I can't give it anything but four stars and above. I just finished listening and I'll do my rating tomorrow. I'm conflicted because there are a couple of songs I don't really like, but, let's be honest, this thing was a damned hit for a reason.

Scott 2Scott Walker

Rated 8/10

Pithy lines, oddball tales, and plain weirdness for the era. His cover of Next, Next is amazing. For being a schlock merchant he is also kind of an amazing lyricist. I enjoy strange musicians and outsider artists so I kinda dug this a lot.

Rated 6/10

Interesting to hear Madonna chuck middle eastern, Indian, and dance beats in a bag and shake them up. Some decent tracks. Particularly Frozen stands out as an interracial departure and a well-crafted tune for a batman soundtrack. Probably won't listen to the whole thing again but that one song was nice.

I did enjoy this album and, though her voice can be a bit much at times, she has solid lyricism and good variance of theme. It's a nice relaxing listen for the morning.

Great guitar forward alt album. That Cure cover is rad. Not my favorite of the era but perfectly listenable and well composed with decent variance amongst the track list.

Well, that hard r in the first song was buck wild at 7:12am. Now, it was 1973 and he was using it to pick on rednecks but still...the problem with music is that it can't get the social firmware updates we might like. I love walk on the wild side. Great tune. Same problem.

That aside I put Randy Newman on the same shelf as Dr. John. Two schlocky and kind of funny guys with odd affectations who are really good at the specific thing they do.

I happen to also enjoy it somewhat. The latter slightly more but this album was decent and I enjoyed the shorter length. It felt like it said what it wanted to and let me get on with my day.

I quite like Elvis Costello but this isn't my favorite album by him. Man still can turn a phrase and knows how to build a song. I just feel like it may be shows a little through the music here in places? These songs feel built?

I have a ton of respect for her facility as a singer but I rarely like her music. That said this was a well composed album and wasn't entirely unwelcome on a Christmas day. It's fine.

Rated 4/10

Coldplay always makes me think of the slow parts of a Gorillaz track combined with flyover Radiohead material. Inoffensive but hardly favorite band material.

Well, I love sax so I enjoyed this. Wish there was a bit more to it on the whole. Had some great moments but never really felt like it came to a point of impact.
