The Good: Nothing
The Bad: My mood
The Ugly: Fucking look on my face as I realize I am getting screwed…

I have been looking at this journey the wrong way… this is not meant as a journey to appreciate music. No sir, it isn’t.
Instead, we are on this journey to see how long it takes before we start contemplating that maybe, just maybe, we have better things to do with our time than to sit around and let the likes of Mr Dimery fuck with us…

When I saw the album cover, my first thought was “but, I’ve already listened to this…” to find out that I was mistaken about the prison where it was recorded.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate that there are plenty of people who rank this album very high on the list of album one needs to listen to before one dies, and I will not sit here and pretend that it isn’t so…

Though technically this is not a greatest hits album, which would exclude it from the list, it gets pretty close to it… and still a monster album such as Saturday Night Fever is not on this list, because it is an amalgamation of several artist…

Out of spite I am giving this album a 1* and I really hope that tomorrow a smile is on my face as the next album is being presented, as I am finding the past 2 weeks to be the worse so far in this journey that is starting to turn into a fucking nightmare….

Playing the album Pulse, by Pink Floyd to get the bad taste out of my mouth…

Also, listened to the album and I can’t, in good conscious, raate this 1*
However, seeing as I still don’t understand why this album is on the list, I will bump it up…. the album should be at least 3*

ShleepRobert Wyatt

Rated 2/10

The Good: We get to sleep!
The Bad: Make that shleep… as we are inebriated!
The Ugly: The fucking hangover…

I’ve always been told that “to assume is making an ass out of you and me”, so here is me being an ass.
Plenty of us travelers on the 1001 journey are undertaking this effort in the hopes that our status as audio-snob can be proven correct—that we know about hidden gems, can recognize artistry where others see garbage, and more importantly, that nothing can throw us into a tantrum.

Well, I guess my status as a music snob can be erased.
While listening to this album and reading the comments from those fellow journeymen and women who decided to dish out 5 *, I could but wonder if they would stare approvingly at splatter paint done by a color-blind 5 year-old epileptic patient who just missed the canvas completely?

Though Mr Wyatt will not be alone on the list of artist I certainly do not need to listen to ever again, he is fighting for the coveted price of King of the Hill…

What absolute shit to listen to, and worse, to my horror, is finding out that I will have to endure one more album by this artist…
I’ve said it once, I shall say it again: Fuck You mr Dimery for having a SHIT opinion too often!

Here’s an artist who is not on the list, yet considered critical listening by many: Tom Petty, not on the list, yet has more than a fair share of albums that people adore…

1*

The Good: We get to do a little bird watching…
The Bad: I forgot my binoculars…
The Ugly: The parked car underneath a tree is left full of…

He-Haw! However, I don’t feel like He-Hawing… and the faux-drawl just isn’t doing it for me.

Don’t know if it is because I am tired of these past 2-3 weeks with countless sub-par albums, that I need to listen to something really great to get excited. This album did not do the trick for me.

As a matter of fact, I would throw this album straight out of the window into a ravine, thus ensuring that nobody else would have to listen to the album.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s musicianship on display, and the songs aren’t half badly written… however, if you’ve been psychedelic rock, stick to that, or go to rock, don’t start he-hawing things up in the hopes that you will get applause left and right. Imagine Crosby Stills Nash and Young doing a disco album… just doesn’t work.

So, I will be a bastard and throw 2* their way… sorry folks, just not my cup of tea at this moment.

The Good: We get to climb a ladder!
The Bad: Doesn’t stay white too long as we have dirty boots on…
The Ugly: Finding out the ladder leads nowhere…

I am not going to repeat what has already been written ad-nauseum, however, fuck you Mr D adding this…
As I am totally unfamiliar with the artist, listening to the first song was not that bad. And then came the second song… and the third and all of a sudden the album was done.

The above is not an indication that the experience was enjoyable, instead, I found that all songs sounded pretty much the same and I started to get really bored with the whole damn thing.

This is NOT something that needs to be listened to before one dies. Period.

1 1/2*

The Good: We will soon no longer find ourselves on a dusty planet!
The Bad: We’ve traded that one in for a repetitive planet…
The Ugly: Everthing… but the album cover… that picture is pretty sweet.

It’s not bad.
It’s not great either.
However, if I would have to choose EMD then I would go for this one prior to any other many of the other one’s on the list…
Just checked, and Electronic gets a whopping 20 albums on this list… FUCK ME!!!

Shooting this one down the barrel… 3*

Lost SoulsDoves

Rated 6/10

The Good: We get doves!
The Bad: They are not part of a magic act…
The Ugly: They aren’t crying either…

I am playing catch up on rating albums. This one was presented to me during a very busy weekend of drinking, so technically speaking I should have enjoyed it—this per the overall comments I read left and right.

Today, about a month later, on a dreary Monday morning, a couple of hours before I need to start a 2 week business trip, I am listening to this thinking “I HATE Lo-Fi!!!!!!!!”

Is the album bad? No.
Is it something that should be listened to before one dies? Not really…
Am I getting to the point of despair regarding this 1001 journey? Inching closer to insanity on an almost daily basis!

Anyway, today’s album in the future is Al Green, and I am actually looking forward to listening to that one, so I will give this album a mercy kill with a 3* rating

The Good: We are going to be introspective… right?
The Bad: A Stevie Wonder album that references sight…
The Ugly: The above line… uncalled for…

And again Stevie has us bobbing our heads, tapping our feet, while making us smile.

Though not my favorite of his classical period, it is non-the-less a tour the force to listen to!

Oddly enough, there are no SW albums besides his classic period, which I find a little weird, seeing as he’s still recording, he’s still touring… and yet I have to listen to bands I’ve never heard of in the 2000s…

Conflicted on what to give this album… wish we could rate based on 10, not 5, then this would be a 9…

4*

The Good: Being unusual should be a good thing…
The Bad: This unusual being the unusual version of unusual…
The Ugly: The make-up… very usual in certain circles during the ‘80s

I’ve been lambasting this journey due to one too many post 2000s albums being absolute shit, yet deemed listen worthy before I die…
I can understand that someone who’s never heard of Cyndi Lauper might have a similar visceral reaction when the fist song on this album kicks in, potentially ruining the rest of the album as opinions have already been clouded.

Maybe I need to reevaluate those post 2000’s albums… nah, they’re still shit…

This album, as it is straight from my youth, is what it is, a lovely means to remember the “unusual” great time I had in the ‘80s, though I also had a great time in the ‘90s, and the ‘00s, and even the ‘70s, and let’s not forget meeting my wife in the ‘10s… I guess one has a great time all the time!

Cyndi had one massive hit, starred in one of the better shit films of the ‘80s, which had plenty of great shit films, and magically managed to have one of the more memorable singing parts in the “We Are the World” hit single…

This album was presented to me on Jan 7th 2026, I’ve listened to it 6 or 7 times since, and only today have found the time to write this review… almost two months later.

5* because here’s to Cyndi being an icon!

Ingénuek.d. lang

Rated 6/10

The Good: We are ingenue… so posh!
The Bad: Being posh is over-rated.
The Ugly: No caps on artist name, yet album does have one…!!?!?!?!!

I remember KD back in the ‘90s, not fondly, but not badly either… just kind of bland.
I guess that is what this album is… kind of bland.

Yes, she has a great voice.
Yes, the production quality on this album is excellent.
Yes, this album contains a massive hit…

And yet I struggle to find something that would make me want to listen to it again… which isn’t a good thing.
As I am pretty certain that we will not be seeing another K.D. Lang (that’s how you should spell it, damnit) album on this list, I will go ahead and try to surprise myself by listening to her freshman attempt as it seems to be a C&W thing, which I think suits her voice much better than this album did.

3*

The Good: We get to talk about football!
The Bad: We aren’t fans of Arsenal…
The Ugly: Realizing that we still have 1 Morrissey album to go on the list…

A quick moment to reflect on this journey we are one… this album marks number 564 that has been generated for me… this means that for the past 1 year, 6 months, 3 weeks and so many days, I have been conditioned to react to the presentation of an album with either:
Excitement
Horror
Curiosity
Hatred

I can’t recall exactly, however, there has been a period of almost 9 days when the rating on an album did not exceed 2*… this is enough to make a person ready to kill someone, most of the time the thought goes to strangling Mr Dimery.

If I look back to the last 10 albums that have been generated for me, the count of 1* albums is 5, three times I rated albums 3* (2 times upgrading), one album is a 2* upgraded (so that should be 1*) and only one is 5* (and what a beauty of an album that is… which, by the by, I have played daily since it was generated in order to wash away the foul taste in my mouth).

When the album cover presented itself, and I realized that I had to sit through another Morrissey album (either solo, or with The Smiths) my heart sank so deep that sonar is still trying to track it…

And yet, even if I don’t like Morrissey’s voice—actually, hate it, would be correct—this album is going to get a near top rating, because I found myself tapping my toes, bobbing my head, and wondering why his other albums (barring 1 of the The Smits which I did appreciate) were not able to generate the sense of fun like this album did?

Lesson learned? Well, sometimes Mr Dimery can surprise us by having us listen to an album we think we are going to hate, to only find that it isn’t that bad at all… but that doesn’t excuse the other absolute turds that I have been exposed to these past 2 weeks….

4*

WhateverAimee Mann

Rated 2/10

The Good: Excellent catchphrase!
The Bad: That it refers to the artist attitude while recording this album.
The Ugly: Wha’evah…

I had a bumper sticker that read Whatever when this album came out… I loved that bumper sticker… I did not love this album.

As a matter of fact, while listening to this all I could think about was what the fuck am I listening to, and why is this fucking album on the list?
2026 has not started off with a bang for me, that’s for sure, as, as this is the third album where I am struggling to wonder if it is worth more than 1*…

Why is this on the list? Nothing on it made it special… worse, I can’t seem to find it on any top list mentioned.
If you head to udiscover.com and check out their top 71 albums for 1993 then you will find 71 albums I’d rather be listening to than this shit…

Guess that’s the nail in the coffin for Aimee… 1*

The Good: Something Modern!
The Bad: Something that is spelled wrong…
The Ugly: Thinking that Jane Weaver is an actress from the ‘90s until you look her up…

Okay, that last one was uncalled for. I do apologize to all the Jane Weaver fans out there, all 4 of you.

I don’t know what Kosmology is about, I would know what Cosmology is, however, that is a little too complicated and can’t be explained in 1 album… Kosmology, on the other hand, is Greek for shit music that should not be listened to.

Thank you Mr Dimery for again making me wonder who is paying you to include these absolute turds of albums on a list that, according to you, one must hear before you die… well, die already, please, so we don’t have to listen to this kind of crap again.

Hated it… in case that was not obvious.

1*

The Good: There’s a mystery!
The Bad: We did not get a map to find said city…
The Ugly: The fucking album cover… sorry…

Finally I get to listen to the album which, at times, is listed as the lowest ranking of all albums on this journey.
I have to say that the first couple of tunes made me wonder why people hate this album so much…
Then, around track #4, you start wondering who ever, in their right mind, decided to sign these boys to a record deal…
The vocals are pretty darn bad to listen to, and the songs start fizzing in the middle.

I guess we all understand that they are included due to the tragic death of the drummer… but then again, Spinal Tap warned any wanna-be-musician that the choice of percussion can be lethal!

Out of respect for the dead I will grant the album 3*, because it’s not total trash, but it’s not great either...

The Good: We get Bluesbreakers!
The Bad: We don’t know what they are…
The Ugly: We don’t know who they are either…

So, I am uncertain when the iconic “Clapton is God” graffiti was placed somewhere in London, but I am pretty sure it was around this the time that this album came out.
Clapton, for all intents and purposes, is not God… but he’s not Satan either. He’s just a person who appreciates the blues and shows this via his playing.

John Mayall, he too appreciates the blues, as do the rest of the Bluesbreakers… however, let’s just say that this album was NOT easy to listen to…
And I like me some blues…

I guess it has to do with this album being a couple of British musicians trying to emulate the feelings of real bluesmen in the USA… and it just doesn’t sound right.

Clapton went on to make some excellent albums where he uses his guitar like a true master… those are the ones I do hope to listen to on this journey, however, 560 albums in, and this is the first time I get to listen to ol’ slow-hands and I am playing From The Cradle to rinse out the bad taste that this album left in my mouth…

Should be a 2*… upgraded

The Good: This is all about SciFi!
The Bad: It lacks tractor beams, forward shields, and bikinis!
The Ugly: Inversing this album…

911 is a joke, I remember when that song came out. Flavor and his clocks were stating to become, what today we would call, a meme, kind of taking away the power of the message.

I get the fact that there is need for political messages at times, plenty of artists have done this in their career, I have to wonder where we are today, considering that this album came out over 35 years ago and one could bitch about the same things, however, removing references to color… it is not about race, it is about economic power and how one decides to apply it…

Anyway, did not have an enjoyable time listening to this, but will give PE 2* as they are one of the few rap groups I can stand...

The Good: We get gold… we like Gold!!!
The Bad: Finding out that frapp is old French for strike…
The Ugly: The welts on my face after having been frappayed by gold numerous times…

Okay, so, second album of this band on the list… also, that was a spoiler alert… sorry.
Did I like it? I can’t recall the album, though a week has gone by since I listened to it…

This is one of those albums that you can have playing in the background while doing nothing, then wondering where the last week has gone.

Guess that makes the album a waste of time… but it isn’t shit.
So 3* because I am feeling nice… should be 2* though...

The Good: We are going to witness a crime! Of the century no less!
The Bad: We’ve been duped, as there is no crime to be found…
The Ugly: My supertramp outfit… I mean, it’s bad…

Back in my college days I befriended someone who, I found out later, had this knack for creating mixed tapes for friends.
The opening track of this album was the first track on Side 2 of the mixed tape made for me. Somewhere in my disasterous belongings, there is a cassette case that should include this mixed tape… my only worry is that I will find it, because that will mean I must go shopping for a cassette player so that I can listen to this tape and reminisce about those good old days…

The fact that this album is on this list makes me more than happy, though I was confused when I saw it as my immediate thought was “where’s Breakfast In America”?… which, to my horror, is NOT included on the 1001 list of albums I need to listen to. Needless to say I continue to question the rational for an album to be included in the list…

Oddly enough, getting the album presented on my list meant it was the first time for me to listen to it… and what a joyful listen it has been.
So joyful that I’ve listened to it daily for the past week, twice a day if the presented album turns out to be a turd…

Hurray Supertramp, you get 5*

The Good: I’ve always wanted to listen to an album by Caetano Veloso!
The Bad: Now that I have, I wish I hadn’t…
The Ugly: Yet another album = artist name

So here’s the positive thing I learned from this album: the listing “other”, which relates to country of origin for the album, is wrong… Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors is listed as “other”…

Anyway, I was excited when this album showed up as I’ve been using this artist’s name for ages, and it turns out that I’ve been using it erroneously.
I thought that Caetano Veloso was some kind of Spanish singer… guess I was wrong.

I know that there are several “Brazilian” tinted albums on this list and I’ve had the fortune of listening to a couple of them already. Yet, this is the second, or third, Brazilian album that makes me wonder what the fuck it is doing on the list… together with countless other shit albums I’ve had the misfortune of having to listen to.

If the criteria to be on the list is to be the first of a style, then the list’s name should be changed, and shortened… as there can thus be only 1 jazz album, 1 rock album etc…
This album, by the by, falls under the style of shit…

You guessed it boys and girls, I am unable to rate this album any higher than 1*… and that makes 3 days in a row with 1* ratings… keeping my fingers crossed to see what the next album is...

The Good: The last time I will ever have to listen to The Divine Comedy on purpose…
The Bad: The fact that something so great as Casanova, the person, was tainted by association to this album…
The Ugly: The scratches on my skull as I try to figure out why someone would grant this shit 2 entries on a list of 1001…

Here we go again, why not include Saturday Night Fever soundtrack to this list, instead of this absolute garbage?
I really tried to listen to this with virgin ears, but as the afore ears were already once raped by having to listen to “a short album about love”, this experience proved to be excruciatingly painful.

Fuck you Mr Dimery for making me listen to this shit twice!

1*

The Good: The Stones!!!
The Bad: Early Stones…
The Ugly: band-name album…

Dear Mr. Dimery,

Reading the rules you yourself imposed while creating this list, any album that is a greatest hits, or compilation album of any kind, is not eligible for this list.
Based on this criteria, the soundtrack to the Oscar winning movie Saturday Night Fever is not found on this list. Thus we are not exposed to listening to The Bee Gees opus majestus, which managed to do what few, if any, other artist managed to do, which is to have 3 songs simultaneously in the charts.

Listening to this album, a couple of things came to mind, primarily the fact that Mick’s voice was irritating as hell, secondly, where are the original songs? Why isn’t there a Chuck Berry album on the damn list? Or any of the other greats who influenced The Stones to even make music?

It is a massive disappointment that I’ve had to waste 30 minutes listening to this, when I’d rather have been listening to silence…

1* out of massive spite
