I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It's still got that Jack White flavour that simultaneously works and grates on my nerves every so often. 3.5 stars, rounded down because it's just not quite a 4 for me, dawg

I don't think this is a traditional album of songs. From what little research I did, this was a concept piece that was built on a loose narrative of a shepherd's day in Kashmir, moving from dawn to dusk. Apparently, the "tracks" aren't songs so much as they're ragas, which are traditional Hindustani classical music that ties specific ragas to specific times of day. So this isn't really so much of an album as it is a script for a day.

So what did I think? I think I think it's good but this is so far removed from my comfort zone and knowledge base, it's hard to know for certain.

The way he jams with the saxophone on, Scenes From an Italian Restaurant, is just amazing! It's closer to 3.75 stars so it's getting 4!

For this group, I know this is blasphemous but, Neil Young just isn't for me. I know this is 'good' and I know why people like it. It just doesn't make my world turn, ya know?

It's hard for me to separate Bob Marley out from the dorm room bros of 25 years ago. However, I gave this the ol' college try and found it not nearly as bad as the bros who ruined Bob Marley in the early oughties.

I didn't get the meat puppets when I was younger but as a slightly older person now, they make complete sense to me. This album reminds me of The Gun Club. Both were sort of doing a cowpunk thing which has grown on me with time.

I was 12/13 years old when this came out. I was at a sleepover with my cousin and we snagged this cassette from her older sisters room. We didn't have the insert with the lyrics so we listened to this on repeat, starting and stopping it whilst transcribing all the lyrics.

I saw someone else say this is both 1 star and 5 stars. The lyrics are cringe and aged like milk. But those beats, that flow? So smooth. And that track with the Lady of Rage? Fucking sick.
